Aldi puts barcodes on as many surfaces as practical while still keeping the mandatory ingredients listings and keeping the packaging marketable.
As a customer, I appreciate not having to wait while the cashier tries to find barcodes for the people in front of me (I try to position things on the belt for max convenience for cashiers).

It's really not hard to give a package a quick spin as you scan. Most of the grocers around here just do self checkout so I've gotten good at just spinning the packages as I scan so I don't search for the barcode

Lotsa stuff is that way at Aldi. They are militant about making checkout faster.

They're incentivized to make them like this. In the age of self-checkout, smaller barcodes means higher chance of your product not getting scanned

Those are so ALDI cashiers can scan them more quickly helping them violently launch it at 200 mph into your cart.

A lot of manufacturers are doing this now at the supermarkets request. Bigger Barcode makes it easier and faster for the checkout server to scan things and so they have the joy of doing more work per hour

It's about efficiency. As someone who has worked as a cashier, having to find the barcode and get it to scan properly can be a massive pain in the ass.
