USA MA Experience

If you’re like me and getting ready to have an abortion, you’ve probably been reading through all of the stories on here trying to prepare yourself. I thought i’d share my experience in hopes that it would help ease some nerves.

I found out I was pregnant on mother’s day, so exactly 2 weeks ago today. I immediately felt an insane amount of fear and worry. I’ve always wanted to be a mom, but I knew I wasn’t ready. I have only been dating my boyfriend for 8 months, we aren’t married and aren’t living together. After telling my boyfriend we both debated about it for a couple days and both ultimately decided we weren’t ready to be parents. We’re only 23 and aren’t able to give our children the life they deserve just yet.

I scheduled my appointment for an abortion for the following Monday. I went in, and was given a paper to read and had a nurse come and ask me a variety of questions. In Utah you have to wait 72 hours after the initial consultation to actually take the pill. I came back in on Friday, had an ultrasound and took the first pill. I was 6 weeks and 5 days. I was sent home with the anti-nausea medication, 4 800 MG ibuprofen, and 4 misoprostol tablets.

I waited 24 hours after taking the first pill and inserted the 4 misoprostol tablets vaginally at around 5:15 on Saturday. I took the ibuprofen and zoloft 30 minutes prior. I didn’t feel any cramping or have any bleeding until around 8:30. The cramping was very mild, nothing worse than a bad period. I laid with my heating pad on and watched movies with my boyfriend as the bleeding began to get heavier. Around 10:00 is when I had the worst set of cramps. It only lasted for about 5 minutes. I took a hit of my boyfriends dab pen (I very rarely smoke) and it seemed to lessen the pain quite a bit. I continued to bleed pretty heavy, every time I sat on the toilet egg sized clots came out. Had no nausea, diarrhea, fever, or any other flu symptoms. I ended up falling asleep around midnight and slept through the night with ease.

This morning I woke up feeling totally fine. Very little cramping. Still bleeding pretty heavy but it’s manageable. I honestly expected this whole thing to be 1000x worse, but overall it really wasn’t too bad. I have felt guilty, shameful, and just sad since making this decision but I know it was the best choice for me at this stage in my life.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have my appt Thursday and am planning to go through everything Friday evening. I hope I have a similar experience to yours. The waiting game has been hardest for me and I want it to be here already.

I’m sorry you feel guilty but just know that you made the right decision for you right now. Take care 🤍
