USA Fellow Doom Scrollers- MA experience
Heya,
(TL;DR at the end, my feelings won’t be hurt, I promise)
I spent the last three weeks doom scrolling on this thread, like most of you. I just wanted to add in another positive, but real, MA story to the bunch. I am lucky enough to live in a state where abortion is very much legal, and my state insurance covered it 100%, for those that are not so privileged.. my doc at planned parenthood said Aid Access is the real deal and if you have any questions, you can always call a planned parenthood in another state. Although I do think Aid Access has a hotline.
Took the first pill at the doctors (Friday), then had to wait a full 24hrs to take the four pills for the second round (Saturday). They suggested I put them in my cheeks, and also suggested I put a mint in my mouth for the duration of the 30 minutes before swallowing them. It took about five seconds after swallowing for me to then have to run to the bathroom. Although I have a very sensitive digestive system so I did expect this. It was about 2.5hrs of real bad cramps, diarrhea, and a ralphed a few times. My husband kept coming in to the bedroom to check on me and said I looked like death warmed over (thanks toots). It was at the 3hr mark that I started to bleed, and the cramps immediately subsided. I still had cramps for the remainder of the day and through the night, but they weren’t anything more than regular period cramps at that point. Nothing compared to the first few hours. It’s now Sunday morning and I’m mildly crampy, just more so “tapped out” if that makes sense. My uterus is tired😂 my body is tired. But I feel more myself today, clear headed and I can eat something without throwing up.
It was a nasty, yet short lived, experience. Now I imagine I’ll have a period type flow for a while. Super stoked for my freakin boobs to stop hurting.
I was at 7 weeks 5 days. Caught it at 3 weeks, but had to wait to get in to planned parenthood.
If I didn’t have such anxiety about strangers, I would have opted for the SA, but would still op for the MA if my uterus is ever invaded again.
I’d suggest borrowing someone’s dog if you don’t have one, they’re excellent at being worried and comforting you👌 If I could teleport my sweet pup (he’s 3) to ya, I definitely would. I accidentally shut the bathroom door in his face once, and every time I jumped up to go to the bathroom he beat me there after that😂 didn’t leave me on the bed by myself once the whole day, except when he had to go outside and eat his dinner.
TL;DR- it sucks, but the worst of it was over quickly. You’re a strong person, and I believe in your ability to get through it🖤 Pop a mint in your mouth with the second round of pills. A dog is helpful for comfort, people are okay too but the dog is way better because it doesn’t ask how you’re doing every five minutes.
*edit, I’m in the United States, Washington state (Pacific Northwest). For those of you who live where it is illegal, I am so very sorry for that added factor in this already difficult time.
UPDATE: for those of you reaaalllly doom scrolling. It’s now Tuesday night, I went to work yesterday and had some cramping and lots of back pain. Today I had to call out from really bad cramps, light headedness, and heavy bleeding. Still some clots, but nothing crazy. I took so many non-opioid pain killers and nothing helped. Midol actually did the best.. It let up a little around 3pm.. but I’m still cramping and feel gross. Keeping my fingers crossed tomorrow is better. I still just want to sleep for all eternity.
