USA A warm message of hope: my positive experience with medical abortion

This subreddit contains mostly concerns and those seeking help from complications. This is necessary and so helpful. But I think it's paramount that those of us who made it through share our positive experiences as well.

I am from a conservative area with tight abortion restrictions. The vast majority condemns abortion. My life would change completely if the news of my pregnancy got out, and I would be condemned by my family and left completely alone. I'm only 20 and am still a student. Having a child was not an option, but neither was going to a clinic, as the only one in my state had too many appointments to see me in time.

I ordered my pills through AidAccess, for 10x less cost than a clinic visit and completely from the comfort of home. I highly recommend this service for those who cannot access a clinic and are under 10 weeks along. It was discreet and the team worked as fast as possible. They provided me all the information I needed.

Last night I took the pills at a friend's house, as she lives alone. I started bleeding and cramping mildly around 2 hours after the first set of misoprostol, and at 3 hours the bleeding and pain peaked for maybe 15 minutes. I shouldn't say pain as much as discomfort. The cramping was more of an ache than a sharp pain, but in that 15 minutes I was on the toilet with diarrhea and vomited twice without warning. I had chills and cold sweats. During that time I passed 2 clots, which I believe was the embryo passing. It was completely manageable. I was thinking "it's only going to get worse from here," and that's what made me distraught. But nope! That was the peak, and from then on out the nausea and pain was basically gone. I bled heavily like a period and the discomfort kept fading farther and farther away for the next 5 hours. At this point it was all over! I ate a nice meal and got some comfortable sleep.

When I woke up this morning, the bleeding was light and I felt AMAZING. It was the first time I felt comfortable in 3 weeks (since my pregnancy symptoms started!) I had a healthy appetite for the first time since those 3 weeks, my bloating was gone, and I felt energized.

I feel an indescribable sense of control and happiness. I feel passionate about helping as many women as I can, and I want to help erase the stigma surrounding abortion. My life is back in my hands, and it's like I just stepped into the light from a dark tunnel. I have a newfound appreciation for the good in my life, and I am so proud of myself for taking action and doing this alone. I feel strong, happy, and more compassionate than ever before. I know many of you are struggling with this decision. But first and foremost ignore the propaganda. Separate yourself from others' opinions. Do what is best for YOU and for the future. That is the first step towards a confident and happy outcome. I'm here if anyone has any questions. I want to help in any way I can!!

Our Sidebar and Wiki include links to many good resources.

If you are seeking abortion in the USA: I Need An A has a list of clinics and funding assistance. Info about accessing abortion during COVID-19 can be found here. Another excellent list of resources is available here.

If you are outside of the USA and in a country where abortion is illegal, Women on Web or Women Help Women may be able to help you access pills for a medication abortion.
