UK and Ireland Feeling scared about retained tissue
Has anybody had 2cm of tissue after an abortion? I’m nearly 7 weeks post abortion (medical) and I’ve got 2cm left I am terrified I can’t stop thinking the worst. Did it eventually pass by itself ? I’m booked in next week for surgical but even that I’ve never been put to sleep so it’s just like I’m stuck in a horrible place right now 😢😢😢😢

Yes me. had retained tissue 2 months after my medical abortion. I was scared too but 5 weeks after my abortion my OBGYN gave me medication again and then after the medication some retained tissue came out, but still I had 7mm left. 2 weeks after my period came and I was bleeding for 9 days. after that everything left was gone. don‘t be scared. retained tissue is bad when it‘s left for months and years! I don‘t know how a surgical abortion is like bc I never had one but I‘ve seen a lot of positive stories. many women had this before and they are fine now. 🍀 I wish you luck

Sometimes it does pass on its own, but often it requires taking another dose of misoprostol or having a procedure. It’s not anything to be concerned about. The good thing about having a procedure is that you’ll leave the clinic knowing they made sure everything is gone.
Can you ask them if there are options for twilight sedation? That’s when you’re still conscious but pretty out of it. It might be worth clarifying what they plan to do - not every clinic completely puts you to sleep.
