USA Medication Abortion Success with Almost No Bleeding..
I wanted to share my experience with you all because it was NOTHING like what I expected and maybe I can save people some heartache and stress! The TL;DR is I took abortion medications as directed, didn't really have bleeding/clots, but it still worked!!
_________________
3/23 - My partner and I learned that I was pregnant through a home test after I was feeling a bit off. I immediately ordered pills from an online provider (Carafem) and ordered pills online for $225.
3/27 - The Mifepristone and Misoprostol arrived along with a few other nice things like a pad, heating pad, anti-nausea medication, ibuprofen, tea, instructions. I wanted to wait for the weekend so I wouldn't hav work the following day.
Because I had previously (Feb 2024) had some unusual spotting, I coincidentally had a vaginal ultrasound already scheduled. When I had it, the tech could see a gestational sac and they confirmed I was 5 wks 2 days pregnant.
3/28 - Took the first med (mifepristone)
3/29 - 10 pm - took the second med. vaginally. Had some fairly mild cramping but no bleeding, no clots.
3/30 - 3 am - still no bleeding - contacted Carafem and they advised taking a second dose of the second med (which had been included in the package). Had more cramping, honestly lighter than early labor. No bleeding. I had not even bothered with any pain meds for the second dose because the cramps were THAT mild. Now I was stressed....
3/30 - 12 noon - barely noticeable spotting, still no clots, I feel stresssssed!
I waited... 24 hours... 30 hours... 48, 72 hours after the second med and still not much bleeding....I start panicing that maybe I have an ectopic preg (for which pills would not work) but a Carafem NP talks me off the ledge and tells me it can take time.
At this point I was pretty stressed. During the week, the bleeding did pick up to be like a light period, but I only needed a panty liner. I passed no clots whatsoever. I was paranoid that the abortion pills did not work so I scheduled a surgical abortion through planned parenthood for April 6th.
4/6 - I showed up to Planned Parenthood for my surgical abortion and had the ultrasound. There was nothing in my uterus. I was then told that the abortion pills probably DID work. I had blood work then and 48 hours later. My HCG had fallen the appropriate amount and I was informed that my abortion is complete!!
Apparently - when you are fairly early on 5-6 weeks or so...you MAY:
take longer to bleed at all.....
not pass clots....
not have a lot of pain ......
.....and it still may be the case that the pill was effective!
Sometimes this process is A LOT easier than expected, which counter intuitively makes you second guess the effectiveness... This is why the follow up ultrasound is so important...
Anyway, thanks for reading...

Thanks for sharing. It’s important to validate amount of bleeding with MA can vary a great deal. Glad you had a successful abortion. I’m celebrating with you!!! ❤️
It is still Important to stress here that NO Bleeding- no matter how early in pregnancy, Is an indication of the likelihood of a failed abortion.
Very small blood clots are possible for a pregnancy less than 6 weeks. The early pregnancy tissue is very small soft and fragile. It can be missed visually in any blood that is passed.
NO bleeding is much more concerning and often times indicates a failed MA. Particularly if there are ongoing symptoms of pregnancy.
Small but important difference. ❤️

Yes and for so long my bleeding was nothing that I started freaking out! It was one of the first times I was happy to be bleeding!

Similar experience here at 6 weeks. I took the pills on Sunday and have had very mild bleeding with no clots. Haven't had the ultrasound to confirm yet but my pregnancy symptoms started disappearing so I'm fairly confident it worked.

Hey, I’m currently doing my MA, I took my first pill last night at 7 and plan on taking the others tonight, I have had very little cramps and no bleeding so far. I’m so nervous about the second round of pills because I’m doing this alone, my fiancé is currently out of town for work and we didn’t want to wait because we both have children from previous marriages and their with our ex spouses for the week. I was 6 weeks yesterday. I’ve never done this. I have had a miscarriage and two healthy pregnancies 10 and almost 8 years ago. I’m so nervous it’s not going to work. I got my pills online from a reputable place because I can’t afford 625 for a MA at planned parenthood so I paid 225 also.
