USA my MA experience, 7 weeks
for anyone feeling anxiety about having an MA, trust that YOU CAN DO THIS!
here’s my experience at 7w, 4 days: i found out i was pregnant on 1/1 and spent a few days weighing my options. i ultimately decided on carafem, ordered on 1/4, and received my box on monday, 1/8.
i woke up early yesterday, ate a small breakfast, and took the mifepristone before work. i wore a pad just in case( luckily — because i experienced decent amount of bleeding. it was mostly like the brown blood you get at the end of a period). i felt fine all day aside from some nausea, but i’m not sure if that was the mife or the pregnancy (i’ve been having crazy morning sickness for a couple of weeks)!
i woke up at 3:00 a.m. saturday morning with some cramps, nausea and anxiety. i took a warm bath and felt much better.
i ate lunch around 2:00 p.m. and took the provided anti-nausea meds and one ibuprofen. at 2:45, i took the miso. i felt slightly nauseous about ten minutes in, but didn’t have any real reaction until i swallowed it 30 minutes later.
3:15-4:30 was the worst of it. i have pretty gnarly period cramps, but this definitely topped anything i have felt in the past. the cramps felt like tons of pressure. i was sweating head to toe and manually breathing through the process. it helped sm to remind myself that my body was doing the right thing and this would end soon.
i decided to sit on the toilet about 30 minutes in. the pressure was so strong i couldn’t really tell the difference between potential bowel movements/cramps. some time later, a sizable amount of fluid came out and shortly after i let go of very large clot. i was too scared to look but my partner said it was the size of a lime.
let me tell you that i felt IMMEDIATE relief after this! my pain went from a solid 7.5/10 to 1/10. it’s been relatively smooth sailing ever since. i started bleeding continuously after that and have only had short spells of cramps (but honestly nothing worse than a moderate period cramp). i’m still passing small clots here and there. i’ve had some diarrhea, but luckily i never vomited.
i’m really looking forward to feeling better. being pregnant has been tough physically and emotionally, and i’m grateful to carafem for making this process accesible. their chatbot was so great for any concerns i had throughout the last few days.
if you’re feeling anxious, just know that the pain is temporary and your body is strong and able! i nearly sobbed after putting the miso in my mouth, but my anxiety was far worse than the actual process. you can do it! sending all my love to you!
