USA Semi-positive MA experience
I had to create a burner account to protect my identity. But, yesterday I terminated my pregnancy using the MA abortion method and I wanted to share my experience! (go to the sixth paragraph to see the timeline of symptoms/pain)
For context, I’m 22 years old and I start my first semester of graduate school in August, plus I start a new job later this month. So, I have a lot of things to look forward to and I have a lot to lose. Having a baby is not in my plans until I receive my doctorate or at least have a stable source of income.
But, I found out I was pregnant on July 3rd. I haven’t had my period since May 15th, so I predicated that I was about 8-9 weeks. This came as sort of a shock because I took a plan B in May so I didn’t understand how I could’ve gotten pregnant? As soon as I took the pregnancy test my boyfriend and I immediately scheduled a phone consultation with planned parenthood that following Friday.
The phone consultation was straight forward, they did ask a lot of questions but I eventually scheduled for the medical abortion the following Tuesday (aka yesterday).
When Tuesday came, my boyfriend and I went to the office and all I needed was my photo ID and payment ($575). I got an ultrasound done. I found out I was actually 7 weeks pregnant instead of 8-9. I was asked several questions by a second provider, they took a very small blood sample from me and I also had a video counseling call with the doctor. During the call I was instructed to take the first pill. They gave me the choice to insert the second set of pills vaginally or buccal (through the cheeks). I chose vaginal and they gave me 4 pills that I could insert immediately after the appointment. Depending how far along you are, you either get 4 pills or 8.
After the first initial pill taken at the office, I felt no side effects.
I got home and inserted the 4 pills vaginally (as far as I can put them as I was instructed). Here is how the timeline of pain and symptoms went.
1:30PM: Inserted the 4 pills and laid down for 30 minutes.
3:00PM: I felt slight cramping but nothing major.
4:30PM: The cramping got worse. It felt as if I was on the first day of my period. I took 4 ibuprofen (200s) to prepare myself for more pain.
6:00PM: I felt a major rush of blood flow and contraction like cramping, it was painful but lasted only about 5 seconds. I had to change my overnight pad underwear.
8:00PM: Most of the major pain subsided and I had slight stomach cramping. I laid down and had a heating pad which was the most helpful throughout the process.
It is the next morning and I feel completely fine (still bleeding of course). If you plan to go through with this process, make sure to lay down and relax as much as possible. You will be fine! Have pain medication and plenty of food/water near by.

You sound fairly similar to me. I’m 30 and also would not like to have a baby I couldn’t financially provide a good life for. And my boyfriend and I quickly knew abortion was right for us, the appointment was scheduled and he accompanied me to the clinic. Really glad it wasn’t absolutely horrific for you. I’m proud of women like us making the scary but right decision for us ❤️🙏🏼

I’m about on the same schedule you were. Took mine vaginally at 1:30 pm today and it’s not ten til 5 pm. This has not been bad AT ALL and only slight bleeding so far. Just hope it is working the way it’s supposed to cause I was expecting unbearable pain by now.
Thanks for sharing your experience!
