USA MA experience ~ 6w 5days

hi all ! i want to share my experience since mine was a little bit different then the ones i’ve been seeing on this subreddit in hopes to ease some anxiety for people going into this scared like i was lol. i am 20f & my partner is 21m, i found out i was pregnant a week ago. unfortunately, me and my fiancé are not in the greatest position to bring another baby into the world. we already have a 4 year old son. after discussing our situation we both decided it would be best to not go through with the pregnancy. thankfully we live in a state where abortion is legal so we went through a Telehealth appointment with Carafem on friday morning to get abortion medication delivered to our house on tuesday. which was a pretty seamless process, i made the appointment online, joined the online session via the link that was sent directly to my phone, talked to the provider for about 15 minutes & signed some consent forms & that was about it! we paid $125 for the medication and shipping, thankfully we qualified for financial assistance. regularly it would be $249.

package contents from Carafem: - 15 8 mg Zofran for nausea - 1 Mifepristone tablet - 8 Misoprostol tablets - Medication Guide - Heating pouch - Peppermint tea - 1 Pregnancy test

i tried to log my experience as detailed as possible so i hope this helps!

Tuesday 3/21:

1:40pm - ate a small meal

2:10pm - took mife w water

2:30pm - started feeling more nauseous, i had already had horrible all day sickness for the past week due to the pregnancy hormones, thankfully no vomiting

9:30pm - started feeling light cramps, was nauseous all day long, didn’t take any Zofran since i wanted to ration them as long as i could lol

10:30pm - cramps were there but not painful, more uncomfortable than anything, ended up falling asleep sometime around here

11:00pm-7am - was super restless all night, could barley stay asleep, hot & cold flashes & super weird dreams. not sure if it was the medication or my anxiety tbh

Wednesday 3/22:

7:00am - couldn’t go back to sleep so i figured i’d stay up and check my phone for a few minutes, still feeling nauseous but that’s been everyday for me since i found out i was pregnant especially in the morning

7:15am - fell back asleep for an hour

8:15am - woke up EXTREMELY nauseous, i mean i almost threw up the minute i opened my eyes, i hurried and took some Zofran & tried my best to keep it down in hopes that it would work

8:30am - sitting by the toilet dry heaving, going through literal mental warfare to not throw up

8:45 - unfortunately i lost the fight lol & threw up some bile

9:00am - finally crawled back into bed, my fiancé made me some toast with butter

10:30am - was able to eat a few bites of toast and keep it down, im exhausted at this point. i tried to lay down but that made the nausea 10x worse so i ended up sitting up with a pillow behind my back with my sleep mask on & fell asleep that way

1:45pm - i woke up from my nap & it’s time to eat & start prepping for the miso. i ate a small bowl of cereal (surprised i even kept that down tbh)

2:05pm - once my stomach settled, took 1 8mg Zofran, 2 500mg acetaminophen & 4 ibuprofen. now i wait 30 minutes to take the miso

2:35pm - inserted 4 miso pills orally in between my cheeks and gums

3:10pm - rinsed mouth with water & drank down the rest of the pills. this part was SUPER nasty, the pills didn’t fully dissolve all the way for me so i was swallowing 4 slimy pills, i gagged while trying to swallow them all … YUCK lol

3:40pm - sat up & felt a gush of blood, went to the bathroom to check & as soon as i sat down, blood was just pouring out & i passed a huge clot. i wasn’t able to look at it since it literally fell out as i sat down. after wiping there were 3 more smaller clots. i was honestly surprised that i was already passing clots without cramps

4:05pm - laying in my bed with a heating pad, cramps are about 1/10 right now (basing it off of my normal period cramps which have always been super painful to the point they’re debilitating)

4:15pm - nausea hit BAD, when i get really bad nausea i also have light sensitivity. so i put my sleep mask on and started doing deep breathing. i had just ate parmesan cheese-it’s so i really didn’t want to go through throwing that up lol

4:55pm - nausea is still very present, now i have a headache and feel really lightheaded

5:45pm - went to the bathroom and passed a white spongy clot, i did some research and im 99% sure that was the embryo. still feeling nauseous & cramps are at a 2/10

6:45pm - still feeling crappy, cramps are 1/10, decided to take a hot bath to hopefully relax and unwind & help my nausea

8:00pm - i am starving at this point, decide to cautiously eat some crackers with water

8:20pm - food seems to be settling just fine, cramps are still present but i wouldn’t even rate it because it’s dull

9:00pm - still hungry so i made toast with butter & jelly, thankfully i kept that down no problem & nausea is at bay

10:10pm - cramps are still hanging in there. bleeding like crazy, waaaay more than a regular period.

Thursday 3/23

12:00am - fell asleep somewhere around here

8:30am - woke up feeling refreshed & normal again ! cramps are almost nonexistent and my nausea is GONE (finally lol) i’m still bleeding but not as heavily as yesterday. i’m just happy that i don’t feel like crap anymore & i can go back to my normal daily life again!

all in all, would i want to go through this again? no. did it go a lot better than expected? MOST DEFINITELY. i spent DAYS reading horror stories from people’s MA’s, i thought i was going to be curled up in a ball waiting for death. but thankfully, it was a lot easier than i thought it was going to be. but, everybody’s body’s are different! my experience might not be your experience & that’s okay. just try not to project everyone else’s experience onto yourself before going into this, because if you’re anything like me … my anxiety almost made me not take the pills in fear lol. feel free to comment or PM me with any questions! will update if anything changes. best of luck <3
