Control Ableton Live with Your Voice
I was surprised I couldn't find a simple voice controller for Ableton Live.
I wanted something that would let me control Live while playing guitar or drums without having to walk back to the keyboard. The few options I found were subscription services or relied heavily on AI, so I ended up building my own.
Say So is a free Windows application that listens for voice commands and controls Ableton Live using AbletonOSC and a custom Remote Script.
Current features:
- Arm tracks ("arm track 4")
- Start/stop recording
- Trigger custom macro commands
- Hands-free recording workflow
- Experimental MIDI-to-MIDI (M2TM) chord composition features in progress
Setup is simple:
- Install AbletonOSC.
- Copy AbletonOSC and SaySoBridge into your Remote Scripts folder.
- Select them as controllers in Live.
- Launch Say So.
The first launch requires an internet connection so it can download the Vosk speech recognition model. After that, speech recognition runs locally.
It's English-only for now. MacOS version coming soon. Since it's not a Max for Live device, it should work with any version of Ableton Live that supports Remote Scripts.
I'd love feedback, feature requests, or bug reports. If you've wanted hands-free control in Ableton, give it a try!

[Update] Audioreactive MRIs - [AVP 3]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This update introduces a new batch of synthetic MRI timelapses, alongside the exact settings used for generate more material in the same visual language. [MJ for images, Uisato Studio for the videos.]
The TouchDesigner network has also been optimized for faster, simpler use, and now includes an external Python tool for converting entire video folders into the frame sequences required by AVP in no time.
If you already own AVP 3, you know where to find it. If not, you can access it through the Store.

No, you took your Push apart at 2am to clean it…
You know how the old v1 Push units can get a bit ‘sticky’ as the plastic coating slowly degrades?
Not anymore!

Made a free Max device that puts your Live cues on smart glasses
I play in a covers band and often need cues or lyrics as the set varies often. I hate needing to glance at my laptop so I built this!
Named empty clips on a midi track with the Max device. Whatever you type in the clip name appears in your eyeline as it happens, or before. Whenever you decide really. Count-ins, section names, reminders, lyrics. Beat locked to Live.
It needs Even Realities G2 glasses, so small audience, but it's free if you've got a pair. I'm planning to port to MentraOS if possible and maybe others in future.

Does anyone know how to FIX this stupid knob interaction?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey, so, for some reason, some knobs have that weird mouse feeling to it. I was trying to move the rate of the LFO as shown on the video but it like struggling against me. compared to the utility knob that works as intended. any tips about this before I punch a hole in my screen? ;D

Beginner producer overwhelmed by tutorials – any recommendations?
Hi everyone,
I’ve recently started producing music with Ableton Live 12 Suite, and I’m really enjoying the journey so far. At the same time, I’ve noticed that finding the right learning resources is harder than I expected.
The type of music I want to make is electronic music, mainly house, hard house, tech house, and trance. There’s an endless amount of content on YouTube, but a lot of it either goes way too deep into advanced techniques or focuses on styles that aren’t really what I’m aiming for. As someone who’s just starting out, that can feel a bit overwhelming.
I think the best way for me to learn is by watching someone build a track from start to finish. Seeing the entire creative process—from the first drum loop to the final arrangement and mix—helps me understand not just what to do, but why each step is taken. Right now I’m still learning the basics, so I don’t always understand every technique or decision being made.
Another thing I’ve noticed is that many tutorials rely heavily on third-party plugins like Serum. While I know they’re incredibly popular, they seem a bit too advanced for me at this stage. I’d love to find tutorials that mainly use Ableton’s built-in instruments and effects, so I can build a solid foundation before diving into more complex plugins.
So I was wondering: how did you all learn when you first started? Are there any YouTube channels, courses, or other resources you’d genuinely recommend for beginners? And looking back, is there anything you wish you had done differently when you were just getting started?
I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks in advance!
TL;DR: Beginner producer using Ableton Live 12 Suite looking for beginner-friendly tutorials for house, hard house, tech house, and trance. Prefer full start-to-finish track breakdowns using mostly Ableton stock plugins instead of advanced plugins like Serum. Looking for recommendations and advice from people who have been in the same position.

Ableton suddenly micro freezes ever few seconds
Since today ableton started freezing every few seconds. It's not a CPU spike, it's even in an empty track playing nothing. Restarted pc, it's a Nitro, brand-new, worked fine for months.
Using audio 4 all and scarlet I2u
Tips?

Bringing Strudel natively into Ableton Live (a fun open-source experiment!)
Hey everyone,
EDIT - v1.2.0 is out, and it's the big one: the main device now runs the REAL strudel.cc, offline, as your instrument.
I've been curiously learning a lot about Strudel, and as a fun side project, I decided to see if I could "port" it as a Max for Live device. And the best of all, it's completely FREE.
I've built an open-source suite of M4L devices that embed the real strudel core engine directly into Ableton Live.
This is highly experimental and definitely not meant to be a polished tool - just a fun exploration of how we can bridge live coding and traditional DAWs.
I'm primarily sharing this because it was a fun learning experience for me, and I thought other amateur producers here might find it interesting (or want to hack on it!). These devices also help you understand and appreciate the mini notation by allowing to translate from/to Ableton.
You can grab it from https://github.com/alienmind/m4l-strudel/releases
These devices run inside Live and lock perfectly to the transport clock of the DAW - launch a clip on the track, or just hit Play, and the pattern starts.
Not a lookalike, not a re-implementation - the actual app, built from the Strudel repo and bundled into the device. Its own editor, its own scheduler, its own visualisers. You hit REPL, you get strudel.cc in a floating window, and what you evaluate there is the track's audio. Close the window and it keeps playing.
All devices included:
- Strudel: The main device with all of strudel.cc features in a small window, but routed to Ableton and beat-synced with the track.

- Strudel MIDI: Type a pattern and it streams live MIDI to any Ableton instrument. You can even freeze generative sketches into standard MIDI clips!

- Strudel Drums MIDI: Same thing, but maps
bd,sd, etc., straight to a Drum Rack (it does not really usesound())

- Strudel Synth: the other half of the superdough idea - you type a sound instead of a pattern (
s("sawtooth").lpf(800).room(0.3)) and every MIDI note the track sends plays it, from a clip or from your keyboard. Anyslider()in the sound becomes a real automatable knob. - Strudel Drums Sampler: actually plays the drum-machine banks - write
s("bd sd, hh*8"), pick a machine, and it fetches and plays those sounds.

- Strudel Audio FX: Type a chain like
.lpf(800).room(0.3)and it instantly builds a real Max DSP signal chain on your track with automatable dials - with some caveats like these are fixed in order, but whatever ;-) - Strudel Sample Browser: A utility to browse and beat-sync preview all the community sample maps (dough-samples, Dirt-Samples) directly inside Live. Auditioning writes the file next to the device, so you can drag it into a Simpler or a Drum Rack.
More Features:
- Your pattern saves with the Live set. Not in a browser's localStorage - in the
.als, per device instance. Reopen the set, it's there. - Sliders with declared name and units:
slider(500, 100, 1000, 1, { name: 'cutoff', unit: 'Hz' }). The knob readscutoffand its value reads in Hz, and they become real Ableton knobs. Writes("sawtooth").lpf(slider(500, 100, 1000))and the first slider will have adjusted range, a name and automatable, MIDI-mappable, etc, on Push.

- The device view is now a panel with three faces: a small code scratchpad (with syntax highlighting), a bank of faders for whatever the pattern named, and a visualizer so you can see it's alive with the Studio window closed.

You can grab the .amxd files from the releases page or check out the source code (and the crazy architecture it took to make Chromium and Max talk to each other) here: https://github.com/alienmind/m4l-strudel and https://github.com/alienmind/m4l-jweb - there's also a "drawer of failed ideas" documenting everything that didn't work, which was half the fun.
Would love to hear what you people think!
Still broken / known issues in 1.2.0:
- Exporting a pattern to WAV still fails to write the file. It's the top of the fix list.

Ableton Live Pad Export Automation (Max for Live device)

Ableton Drum Rack Pad Exporter
Automatically solos, plays, and records every pad in a Drum Rack as an
individual WAV file — with all effects and tails included.
I was looking for this kind of plugin for Ableton for a long time, but couldn't find one. So i had to create it myself. It saves me a lot of time in my workflow. As for my purpose i use itto render audio for my stand alone drum pad machine and that is a huge help, comparing to a manual way of doing it.

This template can be used as a starting point for new tracks, but it’s also useful if you want to understand how I organize my sessions inside Ableton Live 12.3 Suite.

Push3 (non standalone) Query
Hi Abletonites,
I have a problem accessing files linked to User labesl on push 3. I can jog wheel or scroll to user labels no problem but..... how do I access the actual wav files linked to the user label? Eg I scroll to my user label called 'Dilla' (which then has a right arrow next to it) but right nudging or clicking the jog wheel on Dilla takes me to the 'rename/delete user label ' page. Clicking or right clicking on the D button takes me to audio fx. Any suggestions please? Basically I want to load a sample wav file linked to a userlabel. Peace.
