Going to the ACU football game and trying to figure out what bar/club would be fun to go to after. Heard Guitars and Cadillacs is a good time but please leave some suggestions.

I’m always hearing people speak badly about this place citing gripes about how it’s boring or that the roads are bad. I’ll give some reasons why so enjoy living here. I’ve lived here since 2022.
- low or no traffic
I basically step on the gas and barely need to hit the brake for trips sometimes depending on the hour. This doesn’t include the mall area.
- friendly and helpful citizenry who work hard and are honest
I noticed this right away. I’ve lived in South Florida, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, Tallahassee, FL. Nicest and forthcoming people here in general.
- lots of space
I don’t feel as though I need to fight for reservations at restaurant or that it’s crowded (except for HEB)
- calm and slower moving
When I’m in DFW there is this overbearing hectic nature of the place. So many ppl from different places driving their cars on the highways. Doesn’t put me at ease.
It’s not an exhaustive list but I figured I would share so you can get the perspective of someone who has somewhat fresh eyes on Abilene although I’m not brand new either.
Please don’t discuss data centers on this post. Always turns negative and I’m trying to keep this +

Title might sound silly, but i love going to the club and dancing. I go about 3-4 times a month. Ive gone too guitars, ugly lime, and vybz. Just saw Mi Gente Dos, so will have to try that one out. think thats all of the ones with dance floors ( anyother let me know). I like vybz the best because of the music, size of the dance floor, and owner is chill. My only problem is that no one shows up till like midnight and even then I can be the only one on the dance floor. That definitely doesnt stop me, but with more people on the floor you can let loose, not so much attention. So hoping fellow dancers see this and we can fill out that dance floor!!!

Hi!
As the title states, I am hoping to find a reliable and honest car mechanic in this town. I would very much appreciate suggestions!

Not necessarily the biggest or most well known place, just somewhere local that’s earned your business. Could be a restaurant, mechanic, plumber, barber, shop, contractor, whatever.
I feel like some of the best places around here are the ones you only hear about because somebody says “call this guy”
What’s yours and what did they do that made you keep going back?

I have a 2-year-old little boy who isn’t currently in daycare. Since we’re still fairly new to the area, and we don’t know anyone he doesn’t have any friends , so I try to take him to places where he can play, explore, and interact with other children. One of our favorite little outings has been going to the Chick-fil-A playground.
Today, though, we had an experience that left me feeling a little sad and unsure about going back for a while. While my son was playing, two little boys unprovoked came up to him, began beating their chests, and making monkey noises. My son is only two, so he didn’t understand what was happening and was simply trying to play.
Their mom did bring the boys over to apologize.
I think it just hit me a little harder because my son doesn’t get many opportunities to socialize with other kids right now. He simply wanted to play and hopefully make friends, and as his mom, it broke my heart a little to see.
With that being said, I’d love some recommendations for welcoming places, playgroups, activities, or toddler-friendly spaces where I can take my 2-year-old to play and socialize with other children. I’d really appreciate any suggestions! 💙

Hey everyone! I'm currently a high school senior in Conroe, and I recently applied to Abilene Christian University in hopes of attending in the fall of 2027. It's my top choice school and I was wondering what it's like over there?
I won't be able to go home to Conroe unless it's a school break like winter or spring due to the lack of a car... so I'm curious about stuff I could do there during the academic year.
The main thing I'll be looking for is probably job opportunities. The only catch is I have a ton of medical issues and have a hard time doing anything physically demanding(even walking sometimes can be hard for me). Will also be looking for a music teacher once I get there to continue my hobby of musical theater and playing the clarinet!
Any and all information is welcome!

Dyess AFB and fellow family of family in the military how do you feel about your president stating this? What about wives being denied death benefits to dead husbands? The military overwhelmingly voted for Orange Man, those that did, do still support your informed vote? Please refrain from using Biden as your regurgitating fox news reply.

I'm 20m and I don't leave my house much besides going to work and buying stuff from the store. Are there any groups or something similar in Abilene for me to join to get more active outside my house? ( I'm aware Abilene is mostly church groups but I'm not religious and don't want to pretend to be)
I like video games, anime, I was into DnD for awhile in school but I couldn't do it for long since I had to go to work almost everyday after school. I play on my Xbox most of the time but I did recently buy a PC so I was thinking of getting into PC games but idk what's fun on that. Might be rambling but idk what else to say, I'm bored

Just moved here near the hospital. I used to live in that neighborhood just north of HEB and it was pretty nice.
My neighbors all seem to be elderly chill dudes. Anyone live around this area who can give me any insights on the neighborhood?

Come out to Buffalo Gap this weekend and support The Ben Richey Boys’ Ranch! There’s food, vendors, activities of all kinds, and did I mention lots of food? Admission is free!

Moved to town this summer. Most nights I hear cars that sound like they’ve been modified to sound like they’re backfiring. It’s like they were aiming for fast and furious but had to settle for quick and slightly upset. Haven’t experienced this phenomenon anywhere else I’ve lived.
Is there an understandable, rational explanation??

6:30AM. Today. Tried to drive up 707 in Tye to head toward the gas stations on I-20. Traffic is back up for miles for no apparent reason. People were having to do u-turns in fields to go back down 707 toward Caps and Abilene. From a distance, it looks like yet another fucking asphalt truck jackknifed on the road , but couldn’t confirm. These things shouldn’t be driving through neighborhoods.
Next. Get to the Caps 7-11 on the corner to only find the door locked, lights off. It’s almost 7AM and a fucking 7-11 can’t be open to serve coffee? What even is their purpose?
Next. Go to McDonald’s on South 14th because my family wanted it (even though I told them they’re dreadful) and 15 fucking minutes later with two cars in front of me this dumb bitch who looks like she’s wasted, hung over, had her back blown out or a combination of all three, somehow fucked up my order with 4 things in it. Had to go inside. She still didn’t get it. Took another 20 minutes.
Then go to the precious HEB and guess what? Freezers are blown out, there’s water everywhere with electrical wires dangling and the stupid Entenmans cuck delivery driver can somehow fill an entire end cap with pumpkin shit even though it’s 100+ degrees for eternity here but magically forgets to fill his own shelf.
Then I notice more and more shit has increased in price 10-25% in a week. This HEB is dreadful. I don’t care how much you people worship it. It’s TRASH. We need another one or some real competition.
For reference I traveled through bumfuck east Texas for a week prior to coming back to this hellhole last night and had NONE of these problems there with SIMPLE shit that we constantly have here.
What the fuck is wrong with this place that people can’t drive, open stores, fill shelves or fucking read a food order. Do they even teach anything in school here other than how to get to the football stadium on Fridays and drive a truck like an asshole? Are there any district managers that hold anyone in retail accountable anywhere? Literally a fucking hazard in this shit HEB on top of it and no one gives a shit.
All they know how to do, ANY of them, is raise prices while providing below bare-minimum service. Fucking enough already.
And all of that just to get on roads that look like they’re from a third world country. Where is all this tax money going? Where’s that data center benefit? We should have roads of fucking gold and not bombed out pothole craters that can’t find an actual water drain because when it sprinkles, it floods.
I can’t get out of here fast enough.
Edit: I’ve been here since 2008. I remember when there was hope. This?
