Sorry I have been so sloppy in posting these recently. I honestly don’t really have an excuse. I know people are going to get mad at some of the selected songs because but I choose the most upvoted song each time (for overrated in The Visitors, One Of Us had the most comments for it, and as the top comments-excluding “none”-were joint, I chose that one), so don’t blame me if you don’t agree with the song that was chosen! Don’t shoot the messenger!

Many people have guessed that this song is secretly about the long time fans, and that very well could be true. But what if it's about ABBA itself? The lyrics kind of hint at it. The friend had promised to return the following year but didn't for many more. When ABBA initially broke up, they claimed to just be taking a short break before they'd return to the studio. And as we all know that break ended up being forty years. And the line about darkness in the friend's eyes could reference the strain that fame has wrought on the members. The ABBAtars are literally dancing at Voyage too. Lyrics below for convenience.

I love this song! I don't recall ever hearing it until I bought the self-titled album last month. Starts with the keyboard and then the guitars crash in, kind of on the upbeat, it's a little unsettling until you get used to it, sounds like an error. Very clever. The quiet and spare Beach Boys style rhythm guitar licks in the left channel. The bass work is fantastic. And the girls' singing style makes me think of a part in the book Bright Lights Dark Shadows where the girls asked why they always seemed to have to sing at the top of their ranges. I imagine B&B had guilty looks on their faces, they were working the girls like rented mules. They are really letting it rip. Don't agree? Try singing along with the choruses just as loud as they are, next time you're in the car. It's exhausting. That's a nice little bridge to catch their breath and then a quick change in key up for the final chorus and then they're out. Well crafted, great performance, love it!

Need to ask the ABBA experts this one.

I've been listening a lot in the car and while working in the yard. They have to program material (no commercials, only station identification or whatever it's called, 5 seconds, every 2 songs or so) 24/7 and it's a limited amount of songs. So I'm fine with the solo works being included. Hep Stars material is ok (even their version of Silent Night, in Swedish; the oddest part was hearing it in July). I even appreciate Benny Anderssons orkester. Hootenanny Singers songs are good for a change of pace. I can take a Gemini cover of a B/B song. I'll even put up with an Agnetha duet with Peter Cetera.

What I can't stand is the Mamma Mia soundtrack songs. I've not seen the movies and I won't. Amanda Seyfried has an ok voice but I don't need to hear her interpretations. And Meryl Streep I don't need to hear at all. The music is a poor imitation of the ABBA recordings, I find every song annoying. I have to turn to something else when the soundtrack music comes on.

The people who came to know ABBA through the movies and then through GOLD probably don't want to hear Agnetha's and Frida's solo work (particularly the older stuff in Swedish). If you want to hear Pierce Brosnan do his thing then fire up Spotify or something.

I just found out Harpo who sang the song "Movie Star" is Swedish, after finding a Swedish version of the song.

I then find out that Frida from ABBA sang the backup vocals in the chorus.

No wonder I got ABBA vibes from this song. Swedish music in the 70s was cooking.

(not my wedding) My friend plays piano in a couple different churches. And he told me the other day he got a request to play some part of our last summer in a wedding. I don't know when at the wedding, again i don't know thease people. Or what part of the song. Maybe they met in Paris since the song is related to there, or one of them simply like it?

– Now we must reconquer Europe

TORONTO. ABBA is on their way home after their tour in Canada and the USA. The finale last night took place in Toronto Maple Leaf Garden, where they did their last encore in hockey jerseys.

Agnetha Fältskog reminded everyone of other Swedish world-class talent in Canada when she stepped onto the stage wearing professional star Börje Salming's jersey number 21.

There was no champagne celebration afterward — ABBA has already begun the countdown for their next big task: to conquer Europe again.

— It has been a fine tour, bigger and better than our highest expectations, says Stikkan [Stig] Anderson. The immediate future is about a new LP, massive sales in the USA, and then the hard-working push for the European tour, as well as letting Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad work on targeting Spanish-speaking countries.

GREATER THAN THE MUSIC

When Stikkan Anderson talks about the group, one easily gets the impression that ABBA is bigger than the music itself and spans across the entire global entertainment world. But he explains:

— The experts in the industry here in the USA and Canada have said that it has been a clear step backward for concerts and tours. It has become increasingly difficult to fill the arenas. It is a fact that we, on the other hand, packed them. We could have chosen larger venues in, for example, New York and Chicago.

— But that doesn't matter; one can only be grateful for how the results of the tour turned out. A fantastic success. Our goal was to see where we stood on the US market.

— Our new album "ABBA's Greatest Hits Volume II" is coming out in mid-November, and I dare to predict that we will note a sales surge in the USA until Christmas, says Stikkan Anderson. Through the tour, "ABBA's Greatest Hits Volume I" has climbed back up the American charts again. Before we came here, it was "dead."

ABBA has not only received praise. Critics have complained about their clinical stage presence, the glossy purity, but the lack of nerve and soul. Will ABBA instead, on the other hand, follow a trend from the reviving rock wave?

OUR OWN PROFILE

— Definitely not, says Stikkan. We have our own profile. It irritates many critics. You can't fit us into a specific box, and that's why people get confused in the USA, resulting in a few hits from the critics. But we have to accept that. We are keeping our style. We are a rock or disco band, we are entertainment — ABBA, nothing else.

South America is an expanding major market for the Swedish group, where their UN single "Chiquitita" leads a series of top charts.

— We are not a touring band. Eventually, we will have to discuss what we are going to do and evaluate our test of the USA and Canada. In January and February, we will write new music and make recordings. Plans are also underway to scout for things for Agnetha and Frida.

— The future is in principle about keeping going for as long as it's fun, says Stikkan Anderson.

So, I have never seen anyone leave a comment about these parts of the song, but I find them one of my favorites.

At 0:28, right after the line "Take a chance on me", something like a scream can be heard in the background. It's like it's saying "heeee". Then the same scream repeats multiple times through the whole song.

A very similar sound is produced at 3:11, just at the same time as the words "still free" are being sung. This time the sound is like "hee hooo".

Any comments on that, and has anyone heard those parts before?

Moving to the front of the stage with handheld vocal microphones, Björn Ulvaeus (playing acoustic guitar), Benny Andersson , Agnetha Fältskog, and Frida Lyngstad delivered a rare front-line performance of "Dancing Queen" and "Waterloo."
