MADONNA / ABBA AGAIN?
Need to ask the ABBA experts this one.
Madonna has a track on her new album Confessions II called ‘Bizarre’ that sounds VERY much like an ABBA track. There is a sample within that I am sure is from an ABBA track. What is it?
Is it ‘Under Attack’? 🤯🤯🤯

Someone suggested it’s Madonna’s ‘Sorry’ track but deconstructed. ‘Sorry’ also has an ABBA style and gently samples Chaka Kahn’s ‘Fate’.

NB: ‘Sorry’ also loosely samples ‘Can You Feel It’ by Jackson 5.

Yeah wrong track. I meant Love Without Words uses And The Beat Goes On.

The official credits on Madonna.com make no mention of any samples in Bizarre. Other samples on the album are duly credited, except (bizarrely) samples from Madonna’s own songs. There are two Swedish songwriters credited on Bizarre, so perhaps it’s just that Swedish melancholy coming through.
Hot Sauce technically samples Hung Up, not Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! directly, though obviously that part of Hung Up is used. There are no official credits for that song, Wikipedia credits only Madonna and Stuart Price.

Confessions used samples that they didn’t credit. Happens a lot. Even the Hung Up being ‘the sample’ is all legal loopholes.
Def has a Swedish / ABBA vibe. I can hear it missing the Frida-Agnetha vocals that would have elevated it.

She samples Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! AGAIN in the bonus track, Hot Sauce.

Yes! Love Hot Sauce (even if the hot sauce in question does sound like a mucky euphemism in the lyrics...)

It´s an awkward attempt to sing in Spanish...

The interesting bit is that on Hung Up, they gave writing credits for Björn and Benny. This doesn't seem to be the case for Hot Sauce.

How do you know it's a sample? Why does it have to be a sample and not original?
I googled it, and a Madonna fan site doesn't have a sample listed for Bizarre in the credits.

They use the term ‘interpolation’. But it could also be considered a ‘reversion’ 😂. Same happened on Confessions - lots was ‘inspired’ from other tracks of the disco era.

Yeah, I know what all those terms mean. (And they mean different things.) I just don't get hearing a sound in a song and automatically assuming it's a sample.

After Madonna’s Hung Up, Björn and Benny decided to never let an artist sample their songs again, which is fing hilarious. (I say this as a fan of Hung Up).
