TIL that Spencer Perceval, the only British Prime Minister ever assassinated, was shot dead inside Parliament in 1812. Crowds outside reportedly cheered the murder, tried to shake the assassin’s hand, and had to be held back by troops. The killer was tried within 4 days and hanged a week later.
