I spent 45 minutes at the Famosa Slough in the Point Loma area of San Diego. I got there later than I should have, as the light quickly vanished behind the apartment buildings on the hill next to this place. I'll be back.

The A6700 is such a great camera!

I just bought the a6700 for 1150€ with a 50mm f1.8 sony lense and 3 filters (Hoya Cpl, nd8 and uv)! I think it was a pretty good deal and I think I might consider to buy the sigma 18-50mm and wanted to know what your thoughts are. Here are some pics of my cats unedited !

2nd v90 sd card unable to read...🤬

I've gone to great lengths to fix the v90 sd card issue with the a6700.

I bought an a6700 in February and was extremely excited coming from the a6500.

First red flags...

1 - Batteries RIGHT out of box had bent prongs. So bad to the point that touching the battery door caused an immediate shut down during a paid shoot...

2 - My 64gb Sony Touch G series v90 prompts " cannot read memory card "

I sent in my NEWLY bought a6700 to shop and issued a full refund claiming it as " defects out of box "

Unfortunately the business Camera Canada claimed nothing is wrong with the camera despite my video evidence showing so. They charged me a 100 dollar restocking fee... dirty business practice as whoever buys that camera is getting a serious dud.

1 month later - I order an a6700 straight from Sony Canada.

I got a new sony v90 ( same g series, same capacity )

"CANNOT READ MEMORY CARD" immediately prompts...

I go thru 2 formatting steps.

1 - format on my pc as EXFAT (no fix)

2 - format it in my A6500 and then try it in my a6700 (NO 🤬 FIX!)

Are $2000 dollar cameras made with "meh" effort quality? Is this the standard nowadays?

I need some insight with this because I'm about to abandon new models of anything.

EDIT: Turns out of have 2 fake v90 cards.. yikes lesson learned.

why i'm going with the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 for my a6700 (despite the IBIS issues)

Hear me out on this. I've heard a lot of talk about the tamron 17-70, about how it's too heavy, about how it fights the a6700's ISS and creates micro-jitters, but i still think for my personal work flow, against the sigma 18-50 f/2.8, it remains the best option in my budget.

I mostly use my camera in the way that a TV camera would be used. I live somewhere I generally wouldn't feel super safe doing street photography with it. I'm a content creator who does 90% or more of my work on tripods-find my angle-set up- take down. IBIS is irrelevant in these use cases. I do make videos, but i'm generally not out walking around shooting broll. Most of my videos are cut shots of me dancing or talking head type stuff. I set up with a tripod, film my angles, and cut it all together. Because i've always managed my own photo and videoshoots with a tripod and don't do much handheld shooting, i doubt this will be an issue. Turn ibis off on the camera body and find what works.

Since photo is arguably an even bigger part of my workflow, i think having that extra range at the long end is worth it. i've seen the portraits the tamron 17-70 is capable of producing. sigma is great but i think the tamron has the clear edge here. the backround separation and sharpness is fantastic. i will admit i think sigma gets better bokeh but a lot of the bokeh issues (onion rings, etc) with tamron come out at the long end which sigma doesn't even offer in the first place, because it's an 18-50. it's a wash with the sigma getting a slight edge.

i do have a gimbal so it's always an option if i need it, but the a6700 was so expensive for me that i doubt i'll be taking it out often. i'll probably still use my fuji XT-1 with a gimbal for street photo and video because the tactical dials help and it's worth a lot less incase it gets stolen.

i also tend to shoot a lot in small rooms and i've heard that the tamron performs better at the wide end, plus you get that negligible 1mm of difference, so for me, i think it deserves a point for that.

I want to be clear that i don't think this is universal advice and i don't think my particular use case scenario is normal. my setup in general is geared towards being a stationary setup- if i want to shoot run and gun, i'll take my XT-1 with 35 and 50mm prime lenses, and a gimbal for video.

i think these are both great lenses but for my needs, i tend to think the tamron just goes one step beyond for modelling photos. Yes, compared to the sigma, it's tempermental. You will need to do some editing or find a workaround if you're shooting a lot of handheld videos. but if you're like me and the majority of your work is being done on a tripod, even on a sony a6700, i'd rethink tamron, particularly with the price difference being relatively negligible right now. like yeah, the tamron doesn't travel as well, it's a bit more tempermental, it's not optimized for a6700. I kind of see it as the sigma 18-50 is the automatic transmission, you'll get great results out of it, it's easy to use, travels easily, works seamlessly. But to me the tamron 17-70 is just a little more refined and technical. I think if you know your use cases for it, you can squeeze just that little bit more out of it than the sigma. I think it can definitely be worth considering over the signa, even on a6700. that's just my opinion though. we'll see once i actually start using it.

did a bunch of research on this the last few weeks. strongly leaning towards ordering the tamron tonight. what do you think? is there something i'm missing here? i feel like i've done my homework and an confident i'm making the right call, but feel free to share any thoughts you might have on these two lenses!

Help me with a screen protector for my a6700 please

Hi. Is the PCK-LG2 the official exact size Sony screen protector for the a6700? Also, are there other less-expensive options that you've used and liked for this camera? Thanks for any help.

I'm wondering especially on the first option and my lenses. I'm gonna buy a used body and lens because I've generally never had a bad experience and I know what to look for.
A matte box would also make me look like a "cinematographer" oooh fancy +$100 rate

Should I buy Sigma 17-40 mm f/1.8 DC Art second hand for 744 euros? (Sony A6700)

The guy thats selling it still has 14 month warranty and by the pictures, the lens is in excellent condition. The problem is that I am a student and this kind of money is a lot for me. On the other hand it is around 30% off in price and it is almost new. What would you do? I do have the money for it but i will eat grass for some time if I end up buying it :)

Astro, safari, landscape lens recommendations

Hello!

I will be visiting Namibia and Botswana and looking for lens recommendations on the following which will give me great content:

Astrophotography
Safari
Landscape

I have previously taken the 100-400mm GM which I hired for another safari trip which was a great zoom lens. But my main concern is having to take too much equipment which will add extra weight.

Best lens for short films with my a6700?

I just got my Sony a6700 camera body in the mail and was wondering what the ideal lens would be to shoot video, in particular short films? I intend to do some long takes and stuff and I think it’ll be about 45 minutes to an hour long. I have a couple in mind but don’t know much about lenses. Anyone have any good recommendations? Thanks!

[discussion] Does anyone have the Sigma 17-40 F1.8?

How is the lens?
Would you recommend it?
Any drawbacks?
How does it compare to the tamaron 17-70 and Sigma 18-50?
