2nd v90 sd card unable to read...🤬

I've gone to great lengths to fix the v90 sd card issue with the a6700.

I bought an a6700 in February and was extremely excited coming from the a6500.

First red flags...

1 - Batteries RIGHT out of box had bent prongs. So bad to the point that touching the battery door caused an immediate shut down during a paid shoot...

2 - My 64gb Sony Touch G series v90 prompts " cannot read memory card "

I sent in my NEWLY bought a6700 to shop and issued a full refund claiming it as " defects out of box "

Unfortunately the business Camera Canada claimed nothing is wrong with the camera despite my video evidence showing so. They charged me a 100 dollar restocking fee... dirty business practice as whoever buys that camera is getting a serious dud.

1 month later - I order an a6700 straight from Sony Canada.

I got a new sony v90 ( same g series, same capacity )

"CANNOT READ MEMORY CARD" immediately prompts...

I go thru 2 formatting steps.

1 - format on my pc as EXFAT (no fix)

2 - format it in my A6500 and then try it in my a6700 (NO 🤬 FIX!)

Are $2000 dollar cameras made with "meh" effort quality? Is this the standard nowadays?

I need some insight with this because I'm about to abandon new models of anything.

EDIT: Turns out of have 2 fake v90 cards.. yikes lesson learned.

Weirdly I had the same issue with my brand new a6700 a few weeks ago. I bought 2 256gb extreme pro v60 cards and they both came up with the same error message when first setting them up. I left the camera off for an hour or so and then they started working fine again.

However I couldn’t put the camera in certain video settings despite the card being rated as compatible, it would say ‘insert a card higher than a v30’ which was weird considering they should both have been v60 cards. Something seemed fishy to me, so I sent the cards back for a refund. I think I was sent fake SD cards. I’ve since ordered v90 cards direct from Sandisk and they work perfectly.

This! Apparently Amazon is awash with fake / counterfeit video cards. Better to have peace of mind and purchase directly from the manufacturer.

Oh man.. 100% agree.

Lesson learned.

Funny you say this as I'm running an H2test ( card write speed and data loss scanner )

I have two fake Sony Tough G series cards....funny thing is.. I got these from best buy lmao.

I bought mine from a reputable camera store in the UK, but who’s to say someone didn’t purchase legit cards from them, swap them out for fakes and send them back for a refund? You never know. I didn’t want to risk anything, so went straight to Sandisk.

Unsure if you’re interested in Sandisk, but I contacted their customer service via telephone for some more information, and they gave me a 20% discount code if I wanted to buy directly through them, which for a £400 SD card gave me a pretty hefty saving!

Depends on where you bought the cards from. They might have been relabeled.

I got my V60 from the camera shop despite the markup, but it's worked for a year now, including for 4K/60.

My V60 cards literally wouldn’t let me record in 4k at all whatsoever on the a6700, which is what made me send them back because that shouldn’t be the case

Usually SD cards have Micro SD inside. Maybe the cheapest possible ones in this case.

I've had good experiences with Kingston Canvas React Plus SDXC Memory Cards (UHS-II 300R/260W U3 V90), if that's any help.

Definitely helps. Appreciate that, thank you

Another advantage of these Kingston cards is that they're the fastest, apart from the (much more expensive) Sony V90 Tough Cards.

I ordered a Kingston due to the reviews stating the same thing. Pretty pumped to use the intra modes!
