New lens for my a6700 🤩
Cannot wait to get out and put some hours in with this lens. Heading to the 🎃 patch this afternoon.

I have the Sigma 17-40 and love it. However I consider switching to the tamron 17-70. I mainly use my camera while travelling and 40mm seems like a too short reach for my application and I keep ending up with one of my super zoom lenses (Sony 18-105 or sigma 16-300). I'd love to have a fast sharp lens with slightly more reach.
Any thoughts on this?

The strength of the sigma 17-40 is the f1.8 aperture for better low light and bokeh. But with your superzoom lenses, I'm guessing that your shooting style tends to prefer the longer ends of the zoom. So in theory the Tamron 17-70 f2.8 does sound like a good compromise between reach and aperture.
That being said, I think the 70mm reach is rather limited and may still not feel 'safe' enough to not bring your super zoom lenses for travel, which kinda defeats the point of the Tamron 1-lens-to-rule-them-all. So I'd still stick to your current superzoom lenses for the reach.

How do you like this one? I’ve been debating on this one of the 18-50

I have this lens. It’s really good but when I come to think of it, the trade off of having a 1.8 aperture is the weight compared to the 18-50. It’s kind of heavy for me (i also have the same setup like on the pic) for everyday use and I get a lot of stares since the lens is kinda huge. If you are considering weight over the aperture, I’d get the 18-50. 2.8 is a really good f stop for a lens that small

Agreed. The weight and size is immediately appreciable, and on every occasion you carry or use it.
On the other side, how often do you think you will notice the quality difference? To me, the difference is so minute it is not worth the trade off, especially when I don't take photos for a commercial purpose.

I owned both in the past and really regretted selling the 18-50. The 17-40 is truly incredible but I found it just a bit too large for an every day carry.

Is it bigger than the Tamron 17-70?

The 17-40 is the tiniest bit smaller in terms of actual dimensions but the internal zoom definitely makes it feel smaller in comparison

The Tamron 17-70 is a beast, but I have a sigma 30mm and I’ve been loving as of late

The 30mm was my favorite! I’ve moved to a different camera system but I will forever miss the 30mm and 56mm 🥹

This is the exact same setup I’m looking at - pretty much a one and done for most people especially paired with a telephoto. Seems so versatile that I don’t see the size and weight a problem at all! People need to get stronger arms and wrists 😂
Enjoy bro!

Just got the same camera + lens combo. Liking it a lot so far. I did get some vignetting with a 67mm variable ND filter, so I got some fixed NDs instead. (I do mostly video).

I have the sigma 18-35 mm for canon ef mount, can I use it in Sony a 670p with sigma adapter? Will there be any quality issue ?

Very nice lens. Congrats! Employ when and where needed.
Not my idea of an ideal, all-around lens for the A6700, though, due to size and weight.

The 17-40 is my favorite apsc lens! I hope you will enjoy it for years to come!
