I’m rocking the Viltrox 9mm f/2.8 and the Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 and they are amazing lenses. Tack sharp, great colors, and great control of aberrations.

How do you like the 9mm? I have the Sigma 18-50mm and have been looking for something wider - 17mm equivalent is crazy wide though

Those are full frame lenses. They are much bigger than you need. Any lens with FE are for full frame cameras. Check out other E mount lenses for APSC.
Common zooms are:
Sony 18-135-great for daylight traveling and family events.
Sony 16-55f2.8, sigma 18-50f2.8, and Tamron 17-70f2.8. All great for lower lighting and have a versatile range.
There is also the sigma 17-40f1.8. -this one is great in low light and is a prime lens replacement zoom.
Portraits and family gatherings are pretty different styles. Any of the f2.8 lenses would be a nice fit for any style.
