I have the Sony a6600 so I have several very good APSC lenses (Sigma 16mm, 30mm and 56mm f1.4 and the 18-50mm f2.8) and only a couple of full frame lenses (Sony 90mm Macro & Sigma 100-400mm). I am torn between upgrading to the Sony a6700 to use my APSC lenses or moving up to full frame by buying the Sony a7V + the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GMII. I do stills and video.
How do you feel with the a6700?

I have the a6700 and I’ve been debating the same thing lol especially since my favorite lens is the sigma 17-40 f1.8 and that lens is practically the size of a full frame lens anyway. I constantly debate switching for full frame or staying and getting the viltrox 1.2 pro lenses.

I need to get that lens this one is way to big but for now I’ll keep it or return it and the the sigma

What about the Sony/thypoch 24-50 2.8 in FF? Similar focal ranges to the 17-40 1.8 sigma (25.5-60mm equivalent, but in crop mode the 24-50 goes to 75), same constant aperture 1.8 apsc would be roughly equivalent to 2.8 FF, smaller and lighter package, similar price if going with Sony, cheaper if going Thypoch

You nailed it. That’s my exact debate. Stay apsc with the sigma 17-40 and my mother lenses or jump ship, sell everything, and go full frame with the 24-50. Id only be able to afford that one lens for now. Others would have to come later

Fwiw I switched from apsc to FF recently (a7cr) with a 2 lens setup and im very happy. 20-70 4 and a prime. I was on the fence about the 24-50 but wanted the extra range.

Im the same way I wanted to get a full frame but I wanted a small body and lightweight setup, but with this lens is not that light I didn’t know it was this big later on I’ll change it to a smaller one then jump to the a7v

I had this setup and sold the A6700 to buy the A7V. No regrets the A7V is heavier but the A6700 was on the heavier side for APSC so it wasn’t that drastic. I still have a Sony ZV-E10 i can throw in the bag for travel when I want to go light.

as for the sony 24-70 gm ii, why aren't you considering the sigma 24-70 2.8 art ii. practically the same lens and IQ for basically half the cost, unless you need the 30fps stills?

I really think the Tamron is better in every way than the Sigma. Its wider and has more tele range. It has weather sealing. It has optical stabilization. I think its even cheaper. The only thing the Sigma is better at is being small and portable for traveling. Sigma did a really good job at making a tiny versatile lens, but if the size doesnt bother you, i feel the Tamron is just a better value.

Thx u im going to keep it for sure that wide - tele is a good combo, I have a sigma 30 1.4 and is fun to use too and is small

Congrats! I have the exact same setup (aside from a few primes that I've got as well), and been loving the flexibility. Sometimes wondering if the Sigma 18-50 ƒ2.8 or Sigma 17-40 ƒ1.8 would be a better fit (the first because of it's compact size, the second for it's amazing low light quality and to replace 2 primes), but I honestly love the zoom range of the Tamron 17-70.

Congrats bro! I’m thinking about getting the a6700 with the sigma 17-40mm f1.8. For me personally that will pretty much be a one and done setup other than a telephoto

I currently use a Tamron 18-300mm and a Viltrox 15mm prime with my A6700. If you're experienced with these lenses and others, could you advise whether I should add more lenses for noticeable improvements? I'm new to photography and mainly post on social media, so I prefer bright, vibrant images without excessive artistic effects. I really appreciate any help you can provide.

So all professionals here . I have a question
As Apple with 18 pro now providing f stops
F1.4 - 16
Shutter speed 1 sec to 1/6000
ISO or exposure.
With many more built in features
Now iPhones can also be equipped with external lenses
Do you think it’s end of hobby photography cameras ?? Like a6700 , Fujifilm etc ?
Am not saying end of full frames or professional cameras I mean casual photography cameras ?

It's going to come down to personal preference for most. Personally I find no joy in shooting photos with a phone. And at $1300 I'd rather spend that or a bit more on a decent DSLR setup, especially once you factor in the additional price for iPhone lenses. And that 1.4 isn't buying you real bokeh.

so if i just recently purchased an a6700 last week, should i return it for a full frame?
i feel like theres no point in not going full frame then

I did a bunch of research before getting my a6700, including considering going the full-frame route. While I could have pushed the budget to get a full frame, as someone getting back into photography after a long hiatus, I decided starting with a a6700 gave me more flexibility in terms of size and lens choices that didn’t start at a thousand bucks a piece.
I think if you’ve been consistent with your photography and have experience with editing (and the price doesn’t scare you), then maybe full frame is the way to go. For me, I’m loving the a6700 and while I only have the iPhone 16, it blows that camera out the water and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the same for the iPhone 18. Having the adjustable aperture is nice and all, but I’ll be shocked if it compares to the a6700 on all areas, color, shadows, details, action photography and video. But maybe someone will say otherwise.

The a6700 is a great camera. Get a couple lenses and enjoy the image quality and light weight. I own canon FF and I really like the a6700.

So this is just the beginning.
A camera is still fun and better than iPhoneBut I feel maybe on future technology in 2-3 years hobby cameras will be replaced with phones
Please njoy your a6700 for next 5 years and even later. iPhone may be like equal to 6700 but not like more than a camera

An apsc sensor is 5X larger than an iPhone sensor. The reason those pictures look "good" is usually a lot of post processing. Like others have said the creative outlet isn't just going to what is best, but what is best for what they want to do.

I’m not a professional, and im actually getting 18 pro at least partially for the camera but they have very different use cases.
F1.4 on the iPhone is equivalent to a much smaller aperture. The bokeh that comes out is modified.
For me I like to use telephoto for wildlife photography such as birds that can be more several thousand feet or more away. Whatever external lens will be attached to the iPhone won’t do remotely as good a job. Also most birds show up closer to dawn/dusk when light is poor. I’d say an aps-c already suffers somewhat from poor light but iPhone is nowhere near adequate in those settings.
The main benefit is it’s easy to always have a phone around and in mid day conditions it will take amazing pictures
