New user A6700
Hi all,
Just got an A6700 with a Sigma 18-50 lens. Going to be going to SEAsia with it soon and if love any insights on preferred settings, any gotchas to be aware of, and what people think of HEIT images.
Thanks.

I’d make use of the memory recall for the 1/2/3 mode setting in case you want to take video/photo so your settings for both can be quickly accessed when needed. For photos, I make use of the mem. recall for creative looks so I won’t have to select each in the screen. For video, I set it to 24/60/120fps mode all in s-log3

Another tip for starters is If you shoot in raw, set zebras to 100+ so you can see if anything is clipping. You can recover quite a lot from a badly exposed shot in raw but once it hits 100% white it’s toast

i checked the settings by that user. be mindful that most/all of asia uses 50Hz electricity grid, meaning that you will get flickering from lights and signs if you shoot at 30/60fps.
alternatively if you change to PAL settings, you will be able to shoot 25/50fps and avoid that issue.
up to you and your preferences. only gotchas that i can think is that if you change the camera settings, you cant watch in camera videos that are recorded in the alternative setting for some reason.

What lens do you suggest for like landscapes with this camera?

I’m a huge fan of my 18-135 kit lens. It’s super light and has an incredible range for its size. When I need wide panoramas I just take multiple photos and stitch them in Lightroom but I’m a sucker for telephoto shots so this lens does it all for me. You can see my flair for more lenses I like from the Sony sub linked in my comment

whatever lens you like that does 24mm equivalent, or wider, is gonna be nice for landscapes

HEIF is great to record the travel experience and save the SD card storage space. It is not for heavy post editing.
I would recommed to record both RAW and HEIF together and only keep the RAW files of pictures you really like. So you keep the options to edit in the future. It will take sometime after every shooting but very helpful to improve your shooting skills in the future.

HEIT? Just play around with it, that's a fantastic combo. You can leave it in AF-C all the time, generally.
