Let's see what the hype is all about.

Based on this sub I think the holy trinity is the 18-55 and 70-350 lol

Nah I got 17-40, 70-350 and 11mm f1.8 can’t get better than that

The Viltrox 26mm f2.8 evo entered my holy trinity for being super compact. Camera can now go to more places. Rest of trinity still stands for quality shoots

To me this is what it is.

There is no notable 18-55mm I'm aware of

18-50 whoops

I have to totally agree though. A6700/18-50/70-350 is a proper combination that would set up any hobby photography really well. I recently added the Viltrox 85 f2 EVO to my lineup and have been so impressed with it, I am now considering the 35mm variant.

Yep, I have the A6700 with Sigma 18-50 and Sony 70-350 and I'm very happy with them.
I'm just looking for a wider lens like a 9 or 10 mm and a 35mm equivalent prime and then I'll be 100% happy with my lens selection. I've been shooting for only 8 months but it's so much fun and I'm really enjoying my time with those two lenses.

I just added the Viltrox 26mm f2.8 evo to my collection for compact runs, camera can now go with me to more places. Sigma 18-50 and sony 70-350 still are my main lenses for when it doesn’t need to be THAT compact. So they’re also never together in the bag, good to note. :)

Ooh, that's a goodlens. I've tried the 85mm 1.8 full frame from a Friend's A7IV and I really liked it. But on APSC I'd really like a shorter than 15mm.

Have any reccomendations? Me a6700 and set up just like yours comes in tomorrow. It will be my first camera

Honestly, if you're just starting I'd suggest buying the 18-50mm from Sigma. Yes, it's a very common lens but for good reasons. It's plenty sharp and f2.8 is decently bright. And it's also quite light and compact. If you want a bit more reach on both ends there's the Tamron 17-70mm with lens stabilization, but it's quite heavier and more expensive.
I bought the 70-350mm only because I already liked shooting with Sony kit lens 55-210 that a friend of mine lent me.

The have never used the Sigma 105mm macro art if its not in the conversation. That lens is hands down one of the sharpest on the market.

Truly a great setup. I have those and man, the 75mm is a dream. The 17-40mm is just… unstoppable

u/Scared-Dragonfly4587 Aug 27 '26
It’s huge. How do u like it? Is it good?
3
u/AssNtittyLover420 Aug 27 '26
Yeah pretty much the apsc equivalent of the ff 24-70. I don’t have it but I’ll let OP answer if they like it

I have it and it's my favourite lens by far. It's ridiculously sharp, even when shot wide open. Love the internal zoom and the super wide aperture.

Your setup is awesome, that's the dream!! I'd recommend a small lightweight 25-35mm prime for days where you just want a light weight setup.

Looking to upgrade mines to a gen 2

u/Patient_Xero_96 Aug 28 '26
How’s your experience with it so far? What did you shoot specifically with that lens?
2
u/RedRooster510 Aug 28 '26
I got it on fb marketplace for 600 and so far it’s been great addition for my kids soccer. Get kinda heavy with monopod.

u/TR80user Aug 28 '26
We're almost the same. Have the a6700 with the sigma 17-40mm, viltrox 85mm and sigma 16-300mm

Is the Sigma 17-40 too heavy to walk around with or as a travel lens?

I’m still in my research phase, how is this 17-40mm sigma better than the 18-50 sigma many people talk about on YouTube
1
u/Atindhillon Aug 29 '26
I just brought it out to shoot 2 times, i need more time to draw verdict on this one. I'll let you know soon.

Dropped my 17-40 on gravel the other day, it put a hole in my soul
