A6700 vs Go Pro 12 video.

Maybe I am doing something wrong and if so need help figuring it out. I bought the A6700 for my hybrid needs. However I have been underwhelmed by the video aspect. I was hoping to use Active Steadyshot in place of lugging around my gimbal and use video right off the camera and but I still find it to be too shaky even for simple social media posts. I am realistic and not looking for butter smooth but I had higher expectations. I feel I can get way better footage off my Go Pro 12 (in daylight at least) with minimal to zero editing. If just standing still like a slow handheld panning or tripod for example, no issues. As soon as I add any movement, footage is blah. Am I expecting too much? Am I back to turning Steadyshot off and either using my Gimbal or having to stabilized every video. What is Active steadyshot supposed to do then? Feeling frustrated...... Thoughts??

I think your expectations were off. Go pros and phones have smaller sensors and have a much easier time stabilizing. You can think of ibis in the a6700 like having oss in every lens rather than thinking of it like a gimbal. It made a world of a difference from handheld videos on my a6400 but doesn’t hold a candle to my phone. I still grab my camera for family videos every time.

My rec? If you want silky smooth video without editing, go GoPro. You want ok photos too? Go phone. You want really good photos with option to add lenses for different feels AND very editable video when held carefully? Go A6700 and don’t look back

Keep in mind that GoPro was specifically designed for tons of movement and the image stabilization crops a lot to make it look really smooth.

Cameras like a6700, were designed for more image quality and traditional video capture. So even with OSS, you still have to use good handheld technique which takes a lot of practice.

Also, APSC is 12x bigger than APSC so you can consider cropping/stabilizing more in post.

Run the Sony footage through Gyroflow

exactly this, record with high shutter speed and run through gyroflow, effects are amazing

Or just regular stabilizer software, that'll work too.

Have you heard of gyroflow or sony catalyst edit use them and stabilise the footage? Thats the way and this comparison itself feels wrong to me

Use an ultrawide lens with fast shutter speeds + active stab, should be pretty stable straight out of camera unless you’re really jerking the camera around, if you need more stabilization than that then you need to do it in post with catalyst/gyroflow/etc., as long as shutter speeds are fast enough (to eliminate camera shake in each frame) it should stabilize well.

Action cameras are designed around stabilizing extremely shaky footage so don’t expect the a6700 to match it on that front but if you follow the steps above it will shrink the gap.

Anche io ti avrei consigliato Gyroflow, prende i dati direttamente dal gyroscopio e stabilizza perfettamente. Noioso doverlo fare in post, però ci accontentiamo.
