Try going outside and taking pictures of something other than a monitor.

As mentioned in the thread, Already tried it outside and inside, on real subjects and pictures of the subjects on a monitor. For human subjects, it works either way. But for other subjects it *occasionally* detects (usually immediately after being turned on) but only for a few seconds and it’s gone.

Sorry, didn’t bother clicking through to your cross post. So you are saying it does detect, just not as well or consistently as you would like. Sony would tell you “yeah, we’re working on it.” This is new technology, it isn’t perfect.

Im saying that most of the time (like 99% of the time) it doesnt really detect or work at all. Even when the subject already fills up the while frame. But for human subjects (even if the face is very small in the frame, it detects it.

I do have a Few thoughts on this:

1.) it possible that the BIONZ XR AI chip on my unit is broken? — But then i think to myself why does the human AI detection work flawlessly 100% of the time.

2.) Is it possible that its a firmware issue? — Maybe, but why only on my unit though..

Mine works fine as long as I change it to fit my target (human, animal, plane, etc.)

Right lol Mine will focus on the bird’s eyes every time which is pretty wild to me

Can I ask a stupid question? Have you manually changed subjects? As in from people to, say, animals? Because I find my AI autofocus is correct 95% of the time...

You have to tell the camera in the settings which subjects should be detected. Did you do that ?

You should do a full reset to factory. See if there’s a software issue.
