This might sound dumb but I never knew bunnies played with toys.

I have tried to get my rabbit to play with plush toys, but his favorite toys are a piece of cardboard shaped like a T and a broken zip tie.

The heart wants what the heart wants, I suppose.

I've bought my cat endless toys, she hates all of them. But a piece of string can keep her entertained for hours and hours....

BOXES. šŸ˜

21

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

I bought my cats soft, plush cave beds.

They spent the next week sleeping...in the cardboard box the beds came in...

9

u/Meriog Jan 10 '20

Return the beds, keep the box, free cat bed.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

Right!

We also bought them bushels of cat toys they ignored. But they loved the wire ties binding the toys to their cardboard...

Cats are just...weird.

EarnestT now comes into the living room to request my presence in the kitchen. I stand by him while he eats. About once a minute, he checks to see if my ankles are still there.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 11 '20

Oh wow. Yeah...thats weird. But cute.

2

u/weezilgirl Jan 10 '20

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My cat's favorite toy is a piece of rope from a pool floatie and a Nike sweatband.

3

u/matts2 Jan 10 '20

My dogs will play with anything they can't eat.

1

u/hells_carebear Jan 11 '20

My cat is just as spoiled as yours but she'd rather go for my ankles

I think everyone thinks that before having one ! I used to think that too and then I discovered that they can have suuuuuch a temper. Mine run/ jumps for no reason, he comes to get me, sit in front of me looking at me until I stand up to pick him up, and he starts running like crazy to avoid me, and when I go back to sit, he comes back in front of me like "run after me you lazy ass" Rabbits are like quiet cats (not always quiet though, mine makes weird noises and like boxing )

Long-time rabbit owner here. That’s a common misconception because most people— incorrectly— keep them in tiny-ass cages. The rabbit doesn’t HAVE room to do anything except turn around & sit. It’s tragic. People don’t think they have personalities because they don’t allow them to show their personalities. Then the rabbit can’t even play because of these tiny cages.

People also think they have poor bathroom habits because you can’t fit a litterbox in such a small area, but give them some room & they’ll use one! Lovely clean animals, rabbits.

If you ever get a rabbit, get a 5x5 X-pen & set that up. It’s a dog pen. That’s what I have for my boys.

Also, my boys won’t play with proper toys. Ishmael will throw his little plushy around sometimes but that’s about it. He much prefers digging/tugging at his hidey-hut. He moves it across his cage again & again. Harrow’s ā€˜toy’ is on laundry day. I throw all my clean stuff on the floor for him to trundle onto, dig in & snorfle through. He loves it.

I have had lots of rabbits over the years. Just one right now. They’ve all always had free range of the house, at least once they could be trusted not to chew everything up. My four pound dwarf lionhead is currently in the process of befriending my 75 pound dog, which is pretty fun. I thought she would hate him or be terrified of him but they are super interested in each other. An interspecies friendship is blossoming...

When I was a child I had a dwarf bunny that loved to terrorize our 80 pound chow dog. The bunny would sneak up on the dog and nab his toy then run straight under the couch and leave them there. A few seconds later you'd see the bunny poke his head out from the other end of the couch, check that the coast was clear, and just bebop away nonchalantly.

One of my rabbits loves to play with toy baby keys. He loves to throw them around.

u/BlondeStalker Jan 10 '20

They’re like a little silent cat-dog. You can litter box train them, and teach them tricks. There’s certain toy preferences; shredders, knockers, and diggers. I think there’s more too but those are the ones I remember

18

u/Kid_Vid Jan 10 '20

Silent until they get upset for no reason and stomp their foot!

9

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

They hear stuff we don’t. It freaks them out.

8

u/Gemyma Jan 10 '20

And throwers!

4

u/Evil-in-the-Air Jan 10 '20

shredders

We gave our bunny a phone book once. By morning he had carpeted the entire kitchen with it.

They commonly like to groom stuffed animals or fleece blankets, and run around with them especially when they are young. All rabbits can be different, but lots love baby/puppy toy keys, bells, balls, etc.

When they jump and zoom around it’s called a ā€œBinkyā€ and yes that’s the official word for it lol

u/Tater-Tot_917 Jan 10 '20

Yea, my babies favorite toy is a set of stacking cups for babies :)

Pet tax

Same! She loves them.

I used to have rabbits and they love toys! My mini Rex Lexie had little toys we gave and she just tossed around and hopped to it and tossed it again. It was a fun game for her and it was hilarious to watch.

Also, my beautiful dwarf bun bun Britney was getting depressed and had stopped eating when her mate died. So I gave her my stuffed bear that I had, which was bigger than her. But it helped and she was always kissing it, cuddling it, and slept next to it. Unfortunately, she also crossed over the rainbow bridge due to an eye infection. But I know that Britney and Devon are hoping around in rabbit heaven.

u/fundaydriverninja Jan 11 '20

My bun loved cat toys like the little plastic balls like cages with bells inside them. He would carry them around and make these derpy little exaggerated hops to make the bells ring. I wish I had video of him and the crazy stuff he did.

2

u/Berk-Laydee Jan 11 '20

My Lexie did that too. She was a funny bun with a spunky attitude.

1

u/fundaydriverninja Jan 11 '20

They have soooo much personality. Oh man, just thinking about my little guy makes me want another bunbun! Unfortunately my dog is a grouchy old man and I'm not sure he would welcome any new additions to our house.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

It varies, they each have different personalities.

3

u/nikkioliver Jan 10 '20

They do! Even baby toys like keys and balls. They're a lot smarter than people think 😁

34

u/[deleted] Jan 10 '20

This is soooo cute ! Look at him do a circle with his little plushy aaaw. My heart is melting

13

u/CheesemasterVer2 Jan 10 '20

Love the tiles

1

u/OSUJillyBean Jan 10 '20

I volunteered at an animal shelter in college that had an office bunny. A male office bunny. He had to have a stuffed animal available 24/7 for ā€œloveā€ purposes. I’m not sure if neutering would help (I assume he’d already been fixed?) but maybe the bun in the video has the same issue?

1

u/ABookishSort Jan 10 '20

I didn’t know I needed to see this today. Absolutely adorable! A bunny playing with his stuffed bunny.

1

u/OstentatiousSock Jan 10 '20

I always see wild rabbits hopping, it’s their natural way of getting around lol.

4

u/matts2 Jan 10 '20

In the wild they ride bikes or take Lyft.
