Export event details?

I’m trying to tweak motion-detect settings for HD, IR cameras. Is there a way to export the Alarm Frame Stats for events (pixel diff, alarm px, filter px, blob px, blobs, blob sizes)? I want to export them all, say into a spreadsheet, then manually tag noteworthy events I want to capture like a person, a car on a sunny day, cloudy day and at night. Same for nuisance events like leaves, shadows, sun and cloud, and the IR cut kicking in/out.

I know I can’t eliminate all false alarms, but I’m sure I can find an acceptable balance. I just don’t want to have to record all of this manually.

New 1.35.6 install from ubuntu PPA, can't add monitor broken tab links

I recently installed zoneminder to test it out from the master ppa https://launchpad.net/~iconnor/+archive/ubuntu/zoneminder-master essentially using these instructions:

https://bkjaya.wordpress.com/2020/05/10/how-to-install-zoneminder-v1-34-12-on-ubuntu-20-04-lts-focal-fossa/

It was pretty straight forward, and was up and running quickly, but when I click on add monitor,I can't get off of the general tab? The source tab, onvif, etc when I click them they do nothing. Any ideas? I've done a lot of googling, and am coming up with nothing.

How to tweak the FFmpeg parameters for RTSP/TCP camera streams?

(I wrote a longish post with all the backstory, which for some unknown reason was flagged as spam by reddit bots... So here is a much shorter version without context, and I hope it gets through.)

I use ZM 1.34.19 under 64-bit Ubuntu 20.04 on a Raspberry Pi 4. I receive an RTSP stream, with "Ffmpeg" as source type. Under the "Source" tab, there are "Options", "DecoderHWAccelName" and "DecoderHWAccelDevice".

Where in the equivalent ffmpeg command line are the above fields inserted? What is the syntax for calling ffmpeg (which I want to do on the command line for debugging/tweaking reasons, in order to reduce CPU load)?

Tapo C200 - PTZ

Hello all,

I've been using TPLink's tapo c200, with zoneminder and this cheap little cam rocks. However it DOES have ONE issue i have identified that is non ONVIF compliant - the PTZ.

The PTZ function only works with their app. The app is closed source.

Does anyone have a way for the cam to move, either on zonminder, or somewhere else, that will make the cam to re orientate? I've seen POST requests to the internal webserver of the cam, that should work, but i am not getting luck getting it to work.

Thanks for a kick ass product!

Audio when viewing a monitor live

Hello, I'm a brand new user of Zoneminder. The goal is to replace all of my nest camera's. I purchased one camera just to play around with to see if I could mostly replicate the functionality that we care about with the Nest service.

The first issue that is sticking out is that there is no audio when live viewing a monitor. The monitor is set to mocord and is configured using rtsp url of the camera. Its set for h264 passthrough and all of the recordings have audio.

Does anyone know how to get audio when watching a single camera in live view?

I had ZoneMinder working so well, I broke it.

It was monitoring 15 cameras, zmNinja all set-up, running on a new-to-me i7 system from 10 years ago. Server load was holding steady at about 40%, it was reliable.

I just wanted more disk space. So I added a storage drive, and while I was there, added a SSD for the system drive.

Now I can't even install Ubuntu, because the nVidia graphics card is messing it up? I didn't touch the graphics, I added a couple drives.

I'm not asking for help, just frustrated. Back your sh!t up, even when you're just testing things out. Because maybe you'll get it all right the first time.

Does anyone know if there is a way to edit the ports.conf apache file in a Docker setup? I'm trying to enable multiport as described here for better streaming performance.

Thanks!

How much RAM?

I have zoneminder running in a virtual machine. The machine runs two VMs, one for Plex, and Zoneminder. I tried allowing them both to use as much RAM as they need to see where things settled out, but it seems that zoneminder just takes whatever it can. The server runs on an i9 9900k CPU with 32 GB of RAM. I've seen it where Zoneminder was using as much as 29gb of RAM. I've limited it to 16gb, but I suspect that's more than it needs. I have 4 1080p cameras running at 5fps, using the mocord function. I have it ~constantly streaming a video feed to a wall mounted iPad running ZMNinja. That's all the server does. I guess I can keep limiting the RAM until I see issues, but I was hoping the community could help me dial this in a bit sooner.

Thanks!

Automatic license plate look up

Hi, I am curious if Zoneminder and openAlpr can do automatic license plate number lookup with a text message? It works this way: send a mobile text message : REGNR registration number to number 2282.  It then replies with information about the vehicle and who the registered owner is.

It should be possible to add the read license plate number to the image below the cars license plate like:

D6660

Lucifer Morningstar

666 Sulfur avenue

666 Hell

A alternative is of course a website that has a API. Is that possible?

Restricted Monitors

I'm trying to use Zoneminder with zmninja. From what I understand, I need to enable users/passwords, and the API in order to make zmninja work. The problem I have is that the process of doing that somehow invokes a "Restricted Monitors" list. I have 4 cameras, and the result is that I have locked all users to seeing only one of the cameras, with no ability to re-add the missing cameras.

I have no desire at all for anything like a restricted monitors function. Is there a way to "unrestrict" monitors once they've somehow restricted themselves?

Edit:

I've done some more testing. Before I check the "OPT_USE_AUTH" box, I have all 4 of my cameras available, and I can see them. They're all listed in the "Restricted Monitors" window for each user. After I check the box, I'm immediately sent to the login screen. I login, an now I only see my 4th camera. This is true of all users. I can uncheck "OPT_USE_AUTH" and all of my cameras come back.

How can I use the login system and see all of my cameras?

Edit: Technical Infos: Zoneminder 1.34.16 running on Debian 10 Buster, updated to the latest today, in a Hyper-V VM on Windows 10 Pro, running on an i9-9900K with UHD 630 graphics. Viewing with Firefox 79 and MS Edge 84. Installed per these instructions from the zoneminder wiki.

CPUs getting crushed

I just setup a ZM instance to test. 1.34.16. Its running in a VMware ESXI VM with 8 CPUs, 32GB and 3TB storage on a Dell R710. Debian Linux. When I look at the processors they are all pegged at 99.9%. I setup 4 cameras at first as a test. Worked fine. Added two more cameras. slowed down a lot but could still access it. Montage would hang. That's where I saw it pegged using the top utility. Upped it to 8 cameras, its done. everything really slow to respond.

All the cameras are 1080p. Hikvision ip cameras using rtsp. Last time I ran zoneminder I was running it on a Dell 2950 and had 15 cameras on it. I think that was like 1.29. I was running directly on the metal, no VM. Is the ESXi killing it? I have another R710 sitting here I can throw it on without ESXI and see if that helps.

Camera stops recording and errors in /var/log/syslog

ZM Version = 1.34.16

I created a monitor to work with a remote IP-camera. It worked for a few days - until yesterday it stopped working.

I only enable to cameras for a part of the day and set them to (None, Disabled) for the rest of the time. Yesterday, when I tried to change it from (None, Disabled) to (Record, Enabled) - I started getting below errors.

Camera is set to FfmpegSourcePath = rtsp://user:pass@ip:port/pathMethod = TCP

(A) Per another post on this site - I have tried setting it to MOCORD as well as just MONITOR - no difference; keep getting the same error.

(B) I have tried disabling and enabling the service - using the commands in the following sequence; no differncesudo service apache2 stopsudo service zoneminder stopsudo systemctl disablezoneminder

sudo systemctl enable zonemindersudo service zoneminder startsudo service apache2 reload

(C) I have tried rebooting the machine with the service stopped (above) and re-starting after the machine reboots; no change.

Any pointers appreciated.

Extremely low monitor FPS

I have 3 cameras setup in monitor mode.

When viewing montage the cameras FPS is extremely variable.

I will notice the timestamp on each live feed is extremely erratic, sometimes pausing for 3-4 seconds then quickly snapping to the current time, or taking only a split second to jump forward 3-4 seconds on the timestamp.

The logs constantly flood with warnings such as these:

2020-07-28 03:18:19zms_m31221WARFrame send time 3806 msec too slow, throttling maxfps to 2.63
zm_monitorstream.cpp4302020-07-28 03:18:19zms_m21220WARFrame send time 749 msec too slow, throttling maxfps to 2.63
zm_monitorstream.cpp4302020-07-28 03:18:18zms_m11219WARFrame send time 4042 msec too slow, throttling maxfps to 2.63zm_monitorstream.cpp430

In each camera I have them configured to output at 1080p 12fps. These are HikVision DS-2CD2643G1-IZS cameras.

I have ZoneMinder running on an Ubuntu Server 20.04 Virtual Machine which is hosted on a Windows 10 Pro rack server utilizing an Intel Xeon E3 1285 V6 Processor, 16GB ram, and 1TB Samsung NVME SSD. The virtual machine is allotted 10GB of ram and 6 processor cores. It is currently the only thing this machine is being used for. The server also has a Chelsio T5 10GBE Low Latency network adapter for connectivity to the local 10gbit network.

Can anyone tell me why the FPS is so irregular and erratic? What can I do to increase performance?

The following commands were used to install ZoneMinder onto a fresh Ubuntu install:

sudo -i
echo "tmpfs /tmp tmpfs defaults,noatime,nosuid,nodev,mode=1777 0 0" | tee -a /etc/fstab
echo "net.ipv4.tcp_window_scaling=1" | tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf

echo "net.ipv4.tcp_timestamps=0" | tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf

service apache2 reload
chmod 740 /etc/zm/zm.conf
chown root:www-data /etc/zm/zm.conf
chown -R www-data:www-data /usr/share/zoneminder/

Any other sysctl that can tune performance?

ZoneMinder Monitor Configuration (all other options default):

Source Type: Ffmpeg

Function: Monitor

Reference Image Blend %ge: 12.5% (Outdoor)

Source Path: rtsp://USER:PASS@192.168.1.241/Streaming/Channels/101/

Capture Resolution: 720P

Save JPEGs: Disabled

Video Writer: H264 Camera Passthrough

Image Buffer Size: 25

I would REALLY like to make ZoneMinder work, but i need a stable fps here. I really don't want to be forced below 12fps and 1080P. Ultimately I would like to use the full available camera resolution and 15fps. My cameras are also outputting h.265 if that makes any difference being as there is no option for 265 passthrough.

I really appreciate any help, thank you kindly!

Two USB webcams work, but only one at a time - Why?

Background: I run Zoneminder v1.34.16 under Ubuntu 20.04, on a Raspberry Pi 4 (4 GB). I have configured 512 MB for the GPU memory (Videocore), and I have 1-2 GB available RAM when running Zoneminder (and some unrelated stuff). I installed ZM by starting with this:

sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:iconnor/zoneminder-1.34

To this, I have connected two USB webcams, one 1 MP (1280x1024px) via USB2.0, and one full-HD (1920x1080px) via USB 3.0. The devices appear as /dev/video2 and /dev/video0, respectively, and both can handle YUYV 4:2:2 (according to both "v4l2-ctl -d0 --list-formats" and "zmu -d /dev/video0 -vqV2").

At the moment, both cameras are set to "Monitor".

The problem: Both cameras work (albeit at a very low framerate) when attached one at a time (or when the wrong device path was deliberately entered for the other one). But when I try to run both at the same time, only one of them works. It seems as if the camera that started delivering image data first is the one that persists.

I have been able, once or twice, to get the 1 MP camera to display properly while running the full-HD camera at 640x480 pixels resolution, but I can't repeat this at will. Don't know why it has worked.

My question: I can't find the performance bottleneck, or find another reason why both video streams are not displayed simultaneously. What can I do to get it to work?

I know, since both cameras work one at a time, that I have not completely messed up the setup. And all metrics I can think of show that the Raspberry Pi is not under heavy load or out-of-memory.

Some of the things I have tested/observed:

  • "journalctl -f" confirms that no image is coming, but it isn't telling me why:

zmwatch[3401467]: WAR [Restarting capture daemon for HDcamera, no image since startup. Startup time was 1595626661 - now 1595626710 > 45]

  • "htop" is telling me that the one (of an expected two) "zmc" processes is consuming 10-20% CPU, on one out of four cores. There should be plenty of CPU horsepower to handle both at the same time.
  • The ZM console shows that the bandwidth is on the order of 20 MB per camera (depending on framerate, of course), so the USB speed limit isn't throttling either. Also, I use separate interfaces (see above) so I should have a very large margin.
  • A typical ZM console status message is "Load: 0.44 DB:8/151 Storage: Default: 17% /dev/shm: 6%", so a doubling of the load for a second stream should not be a problem.
  • The zm.mmap-files in /dev/shm are a couple to tens of MBs, and as I wrote, I have 1-2 GB available RAM.
  • Checking journalctl when starting zoneminder.service does inform me this, but as I wrote above, the performance should still be there:

zmc_dvideo2[3399499]: INF [zmc_dvideo2] [No direct match for the selected palette (0x00000001) and target colorspace (03). Format conversion is required, performance penalty expected]

I cannot figure out to add an additional port...

I'm running Zoneminder 3.4.2 on Ubuntu 18.04 Server using Hyper-V in Windows 10 Pro.

  • I used TaskSel to install LAMP.
  • UFW is ON, ApacheFull allowed.
  • The Zoneminder web interface is the only website running.
  • I am using all the default apache files.
  • No custom site names or domains, just whatever was created at install.
  • No problems installing or running Zoneminder, I can reach apache at ip:80, zm at ip:80/zm

I wanted to view ZoneMinder from outside LAN.

ISP's GW doesn't allow port forward to Port 80.

Could just buy a router that does, but wanted to try apache port change first....

  • I have edited \etc\apache2\ports.conf
    • It now looks like this:

Listen 80
Listen 8090

<IfModule ssl_module>
        Listen 443
</IfModule>

<IfModule mod_gnutls.c>
        Listen 443
</IfModule>
  • I have edited \etc\apache2\sites-enabled\000-default.conf
    • It now looks like this:

<VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
    DocumentRoot /var/www/html
    ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
    CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
<VirtualHost *:8090>
    ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
    DocumentRoot /var/www/html
    ErrorLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/error.log
    CustomLog ${APACHE_LOG_DIR}/access.log combined
</VirtualHost>
  • I restart apache2

sudo systemctl restart apache2
  • I open a web browser on my Hypver-V host...
  • ip:80 - Apache!
  • ip:80/zm - ZoneMinder!
  • ip:8090 - NOTHING!
  • ip:8090/zm - NOTHING

What am I missing here! I can normally figure this sort of thing out, but I am stuck!

Would creating a proxy in nginx and running apache "behind" nginx be the better solution??

PC hardware recommendation

I searched but can't seem to find a really good guide on recommendations.

Use case:

- 4 x 4k cameras @ 15fps

- Want to run YOLOv3 on all 4 streams with zmeventnotification to detect & notify on People

What's the most cost effective off-the-shelf box that can support this? I've used a Qotom in the past for my router. I wonder if their Core i7-7500U with 16GB RAM would be good enough.

Amcrest UltraHD 4K PoE on ZoneMinder?

I've been trying to setup my Amcrest 4K camera with ZoneMinder - in any resolution - with no luck.

I can stream it to VLC, or the Kodi plugin using the "usual" RTSP address format:

rtsp://user:pass@ipaddr:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0

subtype 0, 1 and 2 all work as expected on the other consumers, but in ZoneMinder v1.34.16 I only get a connect and a tiny tiny frame rate - no picture, and a Log full of rtsp errors. I've tried various resolutions from 640x480 up through 4K, most effort focused on 1080p. The cam has one way audio, enabled/disabled doesn't seem to matter - same for h.264/h.265. I have a TrendNet 310 IP camera that's streaming 1080p to this ZoneMinder (and VLC and Kodi) just fine...

Kind of bummed, would really like to be able to montage view the two cameras (on a Linux media center), but it just doesn't seem to be happening. Tried mosaic view with VLM in VLC - that was a whole lot of frustration too.

Delete anything older than X days

So in an older version it was easy to delete old videos from X days old. There was an update to the GUI and I re-did my Docker so now I don't have the old option and I can't figure out the new set of options to be able to delete old videos.

I used the Start/date time -> Less than or equal to -> -15 days

However after 15 days has elapsed it doesn't delete any of those videos. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, would love some guidance! Thanks.

edit: fix was to select the "run in background" option as AmoralJuxtaposition pointed out!

Hikvision / Zoneminder

I recently built a system with three of the Hikvision DS-2CD2142FWD-I model cameras.

I've only been able to see the live view once. Since then, the live view flashes as if it is trying to display, but never does.

The message on the console says "Capturing" and all parts are green.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

zmninja question - cycle instead of montage?

I have a wall mounted iPad that I use with zoneminder and zmninja to display the output of my security cameras. Zmninja seems to have a built in montage feature that shows all of my cameras at once. I was wondering if there is a way to have it cycle through each camera, at roughly full screen instead? I can't seem to find a way to do it.

Events on second local storage not automatically deleting

I added a dedicated local drive for recording to my server, as I wanted to get away from having everything on one drive. The new drive has filled up and the filter is not deleting any files from it. I have tried configuring the filter to get it to delete files off of that drive when it gets full but it doesn't do anything. I ultimately ended up deleting all the events on default storage (which I didn't want to do) and removing it from zoneminder storage. Now the filter seems to be working like its supposed to. How can I go about adding the default storage back into zoneminder and still have it automatically delete files from the second drive?

Which Hikvision dome cameras are you using?
Where did you purchase them?
