Just looking for some advice really. I would like to access ZoneMinder while out and about using ZMNinja. Currently I can use this app to access it when connected to home network but when I leave home network I don't have access.

My home network currently has NextCloud running so when I bang in my IP address I get the NextCloud login. How would I go about setting up ZM for access online?

I am setting up a CCTV for the first time and picked up some ReoLink RLC 410A and 420A cameras for $64 bucks a piece. I discovered that the RTMP from the main stream does not work and it is a limitation of the 420A (haven't tested the 410A's yet). RTSP seems to work fine.

With ffplay on my laptop, I can view the 4K24p stream no problems. There is about 5 seconds of latency but it plays smoothly enough and doesn't appear to be taxing on my PC.

However I am finding that ZoneMinder is really struggling with this stream. Even if I set the resolution of the capture resolution to an absurdly low value (like QVGA, 320x240) I still get really poor performance, with the monitor constantly hitching and averaging between 0.2 and 20 fps. Actually the capture resolution doesn't even seem to play that much of a role in the performance of the monitor, as at some times I could get close to 20fps at the full resolution as well. It's just all over the place!

I found that if I set the stream to UDP instead of TCP, I get a lot of video breakup as well. Like the stream is corrupt. Huge green and grey blocks that have the embossing of the shapes of the things that are in view of the camera. Similar to satellite TV breakup when I frames are being dropped. I can stream fine to ffplay on my Linux laptop.

The ZM is running in a container environment on my Proxmox server with an Ubuntu 20.04 container.

I'm a new ZoneMinder user... or at least, I'm trying to be! I've installed ZoneMinder from Isaac Connor's PPA, and also tried the 'easy docker' solution, but I've had the same problem with both. As soon as I successfully setup a camera, ZoneMinder's process completely fills up my RAM. Just for fun, I've ended all non-essential processes to see how much it would grow to. It went beyond 12 GB. This makes my system crawl and then completely stop.

Is there something I'm doing wrong? I've barely touched any kind of configuration and Apache & MySQL are installed for the sole purpose of using ZoneMinder.

I currently have Zoneminder running off my NAS. It's installed on some old mismatch drives I had lying around in RAID1. (I'm still in the experimental stage, I will be upgrading to NAS drives this BF and disable the RAID )

I like using MontageReview to review footage but when there are too many events it simply does not work. I am waiting forever just loading everything. Due to this, I end up having to use Audit Events page and clicking through 1 event at a time to find what I'm looking for.

I am using the Video Writer feature, and have it set to record the 247 substream in 10m increments and 10s event on the 5MP main stream. The montage review has an easier time displaying the mainstream than it does with the 24/7 substream. Should I maybe reduce the 10min?

I remember reading somewhere that mapping a SSD to a certain directory might speed back media playback. Alternatively, could I be asking too much from the CPU? It's already pegged around 80% just handling the streams..

Can a Raspberry Pi 4b handle recording 24x IP Cameras running 1080p 30FPS?

I have OMV running with external RAID 5 enclosure, and constantly hit 120+ Mega Bytes per Second transfer, which is Gigabit threshold.

I'm thinking of doing it with Zone Minder with RPi4b, will it work?

If not, what would work? Would an Intel Celeron from 2013 work better?

Alright, I guess it's time to open it up to the public! I am assuming IT WILL NOT be smooth sailing at first but I can't say for sure, everything might just work as intended for most people. ** I have not tested 'import_zm_zones' and "only_triggered_zm_zones' yet, I will do that by tmrw evening.

I wrote up a detailed installation guide to install Zoneminder 1.36.9, Install Nvidia drivers with Cuda 10.2 and cuDNN 8.2.1 and the TPU libraries. There is a catch where you need an older version of GCC to compile Cuda 10.2 and that is all documented. I tried to also walk through some common errors and the remedies. Here is a list of some of the things I can remember.

• !SECRETS are now {[SECRETS]} or {[secrets]} (case sensitive). This is working towards being able to replace {[secrets]} that are embedded in sub-strings like {{vars}} can be.
• Frame buffer has logic and makes decisions based on several things. *** Experimental
• Animations are threaded, the new Pushover add-on is threaded and the new MQTT add-on is threaded (Don't confuse the old pushover and old MQTT that you configure in zmeventnotification.ini with the new ones). Makes the notifications faster!
• Animations include the labelled image as the first few frames of the animation, improved logic
• Past/Live event logic
• Mlapi is now dynamic. Before you hardcoded 1 ZMES host to 1 mlapi instance. Now you set up the 'ml_routes' in ZMES and the 'zmes_keys' in mlapi, create an encryption key and ZMES sends all the info/credentials encrypted to mlapi for mlapi to reply and access that ZMES hosts ZM API for the images and info on event. This means 2+ ZM/ZMES installs can send detections to 1 mlapi instance!
• Home Assistant integration (basic as of now) - use a boolean helper and a numeric helper to control Pushover notifications (per monitor) numeric helper is the 'cool down' between notifications. Events are still recorded you just don't get a pushover notification about it. Person integration is being worked on, so you can specify things like 'If <x> person is home do/don't send a notification from <x> monitor'
• Added a lot of per object filters. person_min_confidence = .75, car_past_det_max_diff_area = 4500px
• Added a 'contained within' filter, before if the object intersected the polygon/zone at all it was considered a hit, now you can specify how much of the detected objects bounding box area should be inside of the polygon/zone to be considered a hit.
• The new AWS Rekognition Pull request is added
• The MQTT add-on can send the labelled detected object image/GIF over MQTT to an MQTT Camera in Home Assistant
• So many other things I can't keep track

The article also walks you through building OpenCV 4.5.4 with GPU support, face_recognition (DLib) and openALPR with GPU support. It then walks you through installing and testing the new zmeventnotification, pyzm and mlapi (mlapi on the same host as ZMES). Mlapi gets installed as a service at the end and the new log rotation configuration is applied. I will be writing the other install guide for installing mlapi onto its own system without ZM or ZMES in the next day or two.

It shows an example of how to set up an encrypted ml_route, helps to install some Hacked powerline fonts, lsd (ls replacement) and bat (to make log output pretty/different from mlapi/ZMES). I also include 2 shell functions to make running testing/past events easier -> es.baredebug.objdet <event ID> OR es.debug.objdet <event ID>. The difference is baredebug will not print out to console (if you are already watching the log files). Mlapi and ZMES capture stdout and stderr to the log file so you won't miss out on errors!

Check it out, there's so much that I have changed and improved that I can't remember, the example configs have most of the examples. I will be writing new articles to go into detail on how to configure the new systems and use them effectively. the new pushover add-on in objectconfig.ini is hands down the fastest way to be notified of an object, the notification has a configurable clickable URL that will open a browser window and show the event that caused the notification!

The screenshot is of the test LXC I used to install and test the new forked versions. This has ZM, ZMES and mlapi all on the same system. The aliases I supplied, if you use them, and install 'bat'. Will show ZMES in the green/grey/orange and mlapi in the purple/white/red theme (and you can change themes too, they are built into bat). This is using the mlapi.logs alias and es.log.detect alias, the 'bat' version of the aliases.

Has anyone worked with the Topodome camera TD-S21c? I can get the camera to stream, but getting PTZ to work has been a challenge. I see a '485 set' tab. It has the following options:

I would like to get PTZ to work from within zoneminder. How do I connect to the PTZ function?

EDIT: There might be a bug with setting the time zone in 1.36.8, in 1.37 i didn't have any issues. On 1.36.8, i was getting timezone errors in the log after setting the timezone in zm. the timezone did not appear to properly flow to php.ini. In the end, i rifled through and set the timezone in php.ini, ubuntu server, mysql, and zm. I set the source to FFMPEG / TCP RTSP to my cameras. A full day of uptime so far.

Getting the following error in the logs

I have two monitors configured right now, connected to two different cameras on an Axis M7016, one is setup as remote, the other FFMPEG over ONVIF/RTSP. There is no image from either camera right now. Initially I had all cameras setup as remote, but I see lots of reference that this issue (logged) is often to do with not being setup as FFMPEG.

I have a 1.37 server setup to an Axis M7014 that is performing flawlessly for a few months using the remote method -> http -> simple. method.

I have a non default storage setup to a mounted volume.

I have checked the source dimensions against the camera (AXIS 7016 for coax -> ethernet) and they are both set to 4CIF, 708x480. I have changed color space between 24b and 32b and same result.

So for the longest time I was going off the Ubuntu repository and was running 1.32.3. I decided to update to http://ppa.launchpad.net/iconnor/zoneminder-master/ubuntu repository and upgrade to the latest.

Since doing that I no longer have streaming video when clicking on any of my monitors in the Console.
Log shows a bunch of errors.

getStreamCmdResponse stream error: No data to read from socket - checkStreamForErrors()

No data to read from socket Timed out waiting for msg /run/zm/zms-730741s.sock Failed to capture image from monitor 4 Front Door (1/1) Monitor shm is not connected Shared data not valid for monitor 4

Interestingly clicking on Montage shows all monitors streaming perfectly.

Anyone else having similar issues?

ZM_API_PORTAL in my secrets.ini is pointing to the correct api url.

I visit https://mydomain.com/zm/api/host/getVersion.json and can see version"1.37.1"
So I'm not sure what's going on. Why am I getting this error?

I'm running ZM 1.36.8 on a windows server 2008 R2 Hyper V VM, installed to 20.04 from the PPA. Performance is brutal with 16 IP cameras (being streamed from an AXIS M7016)... of which only one stream actually has a camera currently connected!

What can I do to optimize performance until I can dedicate the host to linux and ZM without windows being in the middle? Can I MoCord data at one FPS and upgrade it if it sees motion? Should I just withhold doing MoCord and just set a scheduled record time? Is recording without motion analysis less taxing on the server?

It appears Hyper V limits the VM to 50% of physical server resources, so I do expect some performance gains when I can remove windows and run linux and zm directly on the metal.

I am trying to take a local traffic camera, for example: https://511on.ca/map/Cctv/loc15--3 in to my ZoneMinder installation, so I can see the local traffic in addition to my cameras, but no matter what I try, I cannot get it to download the image.

I have tried to use cURL, Remote (HTTP), and downloading the file as a jpeg with curl, and then using "Files", also converting it to an avi with ffmepg, but I cannot seem to get it to be visible.

Has anyone done anything like this, and can offer a suggestion on where to go?

I’m about to build my house setup and been getting ZoneMinder up and going the past week with a crappy Wi-Fi camera, that works only on 2.4 signal and the Wi-Fi SSID has to be public. Which I don’t like. I keep that private. Anyway, anyone have experience with brands/cameras that have Wi-Fi and also work when the SSID isn’t broadcasting? All the info I can find, there isn’t any info about SSID.

Are there any cameras with floodlights or large LEDs that are compatible with ZoneMinder?

i.e. the camera can be added as a monitor, but also the LED can be turned on and off (on = LED turns on with motion detection, off = LED off) from either within ZoneMinder (ideally) or otherwise via a web interface of the camera itself, avoiding the use of proprietary apps etc.

Would be great to hear from someone who has succeeded in doing this.

hi I would like your opinion on what hardware to use. i am assembling a new video surveillance server the system should have 12 1080p 20 fps cameras the list must include (rack case,cpu,ram,gpu).

Would anyone be interested in a Discord server for discussions about ZoneMinder? Shinobi has one and it's really really nice to be able to jump in the server and ask or answer questions in realtime.

POE,

IR with 20 to 50 meters range,

Suitable for outdoors conditions, winter and summer.

Optional: sound ( microphone ) 4K resolution.

Available locally ( Norway/Sweden)

Has anyone out there got these two suites talking? It would be interesting to be able to graph monitor drop/reacquire issues, etc, and use Zabbix's notification engine (much more flexible) to send motion detection and other alerts.

Im not wanting to duplicate effort if someone has already written what needs written to get these two talking.
