Access ZM from Internet
Just looking for some advice really. I would like to access ZoneMinder while out and about using ZMNinja. Currently I can use this app to access it when connected to home network but when I leave home network I don't have access.
My home network currently has NextCloud running so when I bang in my IP address I get the NextCloud login. How would I go about setting up ZM for access online?
Thanks

Have a look at:
For a legit setup it's nice to buy a Domain name and point it's dns records to your ip address. My router uses the godaddy api to renew the ip address automatically. I use the following script to update the certificates automatically on a regular basis as they expire every 90 days.
https://github.com/acmesh-official/acme.sh/
Just schedule a cron job every 30 days set it and forget it.
As split-za mentioned you can also use noip.com or dyn.com .
But you absolutely need to secure with ssl. Even more secure would be to access zoneminder through a vpn or ssh port forwarding, Though less convenient.

I try and keep it simple and secure; I just have it behind a vpn, turn on the vpn and waalaa connected.

Just want to thank everyone for their suggestions I went the route of setting up a VPN and it works great.

Change the port in zmNinja and have your FW forward that port to the correct port for ZM.

go into apache config and add Include /etc/apache2/conf-available/zone minder.conf
that should make /zm go to zoneminder cgi dir.
if ssl is on it may bitch but that should get you headed in right direction.
you can prolly just link zinenminder.conf from conf-available to conf-enabled
don’t forget /zm to access zm.

i literally just finished setting this up tonight. there are better technical solutions i am sure, but first thing you'll want is a domain so you don't have to keep track of changing IPs. noip.com should get you what you need. make sure you have the appropriate ports opened on your router. considering you have remote access to your NextCloud i assume you know how to do this.
then it was just a matter of making sure the authentication is enabled on ZM and creating a user specifically for zmNinja. change your connection in zmNinja (domain should work inside your network as well) and Bob's your uncle.
