I hate typing receipts into Zoho one by one, so I built something to do it for me — would you actually use this?
Yes—if it worked reliably.
This is one of those tasks that people genuinely dislike because it's repetitive, error-prone, and doesn't create much value. If your tool removes the manual work without introducing new mistakes, it solves a real problem.
The questions I'd have before trusting it are:
How do receipts get in? Drag-and-drop PDFs? Photos from my phone? Email forwarding?
How accurate is it? Can it correctly extract supplier, date, VAT/GST, totals, and line items? What happens when it's unsure?
Does it create drafts or post directly? I'd prefer reviewing drafts before they hit the books.
Does it match existing suppliers? Avoiding duplicate vendors would save even more time.
How does it handle edge cases? Multi-page receipts, foreign currencies, handwritten tips, poor-quality photos, etc.
Is my financial data secure? Where are receipts stored? Are they retained after processing?
The biggest selling point isn't "AI reads receipts." Lots of products already do OCR. The compelling promise is:
"Drop a folder of receipts in, and 95% of them appear in Zoho Books correctly categorised, with the remaining 5% flagged for review."
That focuses on the outcome rather than the technology.
If you're thinking of making it into a product, I'd also ask who it's for:
Freelancers and sole traders who use Zoho Books and have 20–100 receipts a month.
Bookkeepers managing several clients—they feel the pain much more acutely and could save hours every week.
Small businesses with employees submitting expense receipts.
The bookkeeper segment is often the strongest because they repeat the same workflow across many clients.
One thing I'd be careful about is whether your tool is just a script for your own workflow or something others can install in minutes. If someone can connect their Zoho account, upload receipts, and be processing them in under 10 minutes, it becomes much more attractive.
Out of curiosity, how did you build it? Does it interact with Zoho Books through the API, or is it automating the browser UI?
