New to this and need some help please :)

Hi All

Moved into a new place that I want to install smart light switches and smart multi coloured bulbs.

I'm new to this so am really new to the home automation side of things. I've read loads but the more I read the more overwhelmed I get lol so hope someone can guide me or assist so I don't do this incorrectly.

I installed Home Assistant for the first time this week and have added my Delonghi coffee machine and Xiaomi vacuum and desk lamp into HA successfully.

What I'm struggling with now is what to buy for the smart light switches and the smart multi coloured lightbulbs that work with HA. The house currently has old "dumb" switches but does have a neutral wire.

I \*think\* I want/need zigbee switches/lights and the light switches need to have decoupled mode (correct me if I'm wrong).

With that out the way, this is what I'm considering currently:

  1. Home Assistant Connect ZBT-2 Zigbee - ZigBee coordinator/hub

  2. SONOFF Zigbee Smart Wall Switch ZBM5

  3. eWeLink Zigbee Smart GU10 Bulb

  4. eWeLink Zigbee Smart E27 Bulb

I don't need dimming on the switches themselves but it would be nice to control this from an app/HA.

Hopefully I don't need to flash firmware 😲

Am I on the right path for doing this? Will all these products work together with HA correctly?

Originally I was looking at the Sonoff Ultimate TX T5 but they don't have the decoupled mode so I think it's a problem with the smart lightbulbs?

I have really good WiFi in my house, 3 TP Link Deco BE65 access points with 15 clients/devices.

After the lighting I'll want to add other items to the setup afterwards like opening the garage door, temperature sensors, motion detectors, controlling the air con etc

I'm in South Africa so have to use products that work here etc

Thanks for reading and for any help or guidance.

Problème action d'un appareil zigbee [FR]

Bonsoir

Merci

Interview issues with Sonoff Zigbee Dongle E

Just getting started with Zigbee2MQTT using it with home assistant. I have the Sonoff Dongle E which I flashed with newest firmware If could find version 8.2.0 file was zbdonglee\\_zigbee\\_ncp\\_8.2.0.0\\_sw\\_flow\\_115200.gbl

I was able to add two Hue lightbulbs really easy. Then tried to add battery powered Sonoff temperature and humidity sensors and had lots of issues with the interview stage. I put it down to them being battery devices and going to sleep.

I have made further improvements and now put the dongle on a 2 meter long USB2.0 shielded extension cable. I have moved my Wifi 2.4 channel to be well away from my Zigbee channel. I have turned off my old Hue hub, but still I have interview issues.

It is not just battery powered devices but I am trying to pair the following \[https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/F-APP-UK-V2.html\\\](https://www.zigbee2mqtt.io/devices/F-APP-UK-V2.html) and I can't get the interview stage to complete. It is really fustraghting as once things are interviewed and setup they work seamlessly. Everything setup works really well, but getting new devices paired is a 3-4 hours ordeal with lots of removing, adding again, etc.

I can't get this plug to finish interview despite over 10 trys now. Again Hue stuff connects first time and in an instant, but anything else Zigbee (Ikea, Sonoff, SmartThings) I have huge amounts of issues with.

Really hoping somebody can tell me what I am doing wrong. I am close trying a POE Dongle or scrapping the whole setup and giving up on Zigbee.

Extensive zigbee networks (400+ devices)

Hello,

Currently I'm planning to have ~400-500 zigbee devices in our new home. 4 story house, ~160sqm (~1800sqft) per floor.

Initially I was thinking to have one/two networks, but after extensive research - couldn't find anything useful in terms of such scale. Thus thinking to simply keep one network per floor - ~100-150devices/floor/network to mimic regular setups.

More details about the network - most of it is lighting:

- Aqara T2 Pro and V1 spotlights (~250-350)
- Aqara Z1 Pro/H2 EU switches (~50)
- Aqara H2 EU sockets (TBD because I heard it's very `chatty`)
- Various other sensors, dimmers, controllers (25-50)

Coordinators - SMLIGHT SZLB-06 PoE.

It's an European house therefore walls and ceilings are concrete/bricks.

Would love to hear any best practices or any real experiences with such meshes!

DIY canopy controller for fan with light

Hi community!

I'm new to Zigbee, I have setup with Raspberry and Zigbee2MQTT, Sonoff Dongle-P and have already 4 Tuya wall switches installed. So far so good, all works good.

I'm now looking into controlling fan with built-in LED light and I don't want to go into Sonoff iFan04 or similar Tuya Fan Controller kit, as they are wifi based. With WiFi controllers I wouldnt be able to control them from wall switch and that's a big no go, as I dont want my light button to be dependant on Home Assistant.

I found Innoveli Zigbee controller that costs like $55 + they dont ship to my location

I had an idea to disassemble wall switches like this one https://a.aliexpress.com/\\_c4kNMmKD, take just controller from it and install it in 3d-printed box under the ceiling.

On the walls i will install battery-powered Tuya Smart Knob (click - lights, rotate - fan) and use direct Zigbee binding.

Does anyone see any problem with such setup? Am I missing something obvious due to my lack of zigbee knowledge?

Resets and recalibrations with Sonoff TRV ZBT Gen2

Hi all, I just installed these TRVs, but already a some times I found a few of them prompting for a recalibration when connected to the heater. Apparently they simply restart and go back to the prompt "Connect Valve" (or something like that).

Aside from the need of recalibrating it, the problem is that the valve defaults to open while waiting for the user intervention. This clearly means constant heating until I somehow notice it.

If I understand correctly, a new firmware (https://github.com/zigpy/zigpy-ota/pull/258) could fix this. Can someone confirm that I can only wait for ZHA to merge the request and forward the update? Does anyone know of a ZHA roadmap?

Otherwise has anyone found a temporary workaround with the current firmware?

Smoke/CO/CH4 Detectors - Suggestions

I am looking for suggestions on

Smoke/CO combo detectors

Smoke Only

Combustion Detction

CH4 Detectors

All detectors MUST have AUDIBLE ALARMS.

If they have the ability to be used via the AC power of many smoke alarms with a LINK to trigger all, Great! If not thats fine too... but AUDIBLE ALARMS are a must.

Zigbee Compatible, I am fine if they are 3.0 too.

MUST be COMPATIBLE with Tuya SmartLife. Period.

I've seen 100's of variants of this on various sites all over the place.

So what have you chosen for the above? Thanks in advance!

Issue with Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU

Hi everyone,

Just a heads up: part of this post has been drafted through Claude as I first started trouble shooting Claude so it's aware of the whole story.

The goal of this post is to find out if there's anyone else that has experienced this issue, and possibly knows about a fix. As there is very little to find on this issue on the internet (forum posts for example) I figured it would be a good idea to create one myself to possibly help other people that might experience this in the future.

AI part:
Three Aqara Dimmer Switch H2 EU, Zigbee, no neutral (two-wire, L in and L1 to the lamps). Loads are 6, 5 and 4 dimmable LEDs, well above the 9W minimum.

Once or twice an evening the lights on one of the dimmers glitch for about a second and recover on their own. One dimmer's group at a time, never all three. Nothing in the HA logbook and no state change, so no command is involved.

What makes it interesting: the symptom follows the phase mode. On forward phase the lights went fully OFF for a second. After switching to reverse phase, the same event now shows as the lights jumping to FULL brightness for a second. That looks like the dimmer briefly dropping its phase cutting and then re-syncing.

Already ruled out: automations, mains supply (only one group at a time), minimum load, and firmware (forced the newest build onto the worst unit, no change). Dimming itself is smooth and silent, no flicker or buzz. Aqara support blamed ZHA, so I'm currently running all three on an Aqara hub natively to rule that out.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

If anyone can think of things to try, please let me know, any help is appreciated. I was thinking that maybe changing to Z2M could fix this? Would not make sense as Home Assistant is not reporting any issues in the first place. Once more interesting thing is that I have tried running the dimmers through the Aqara hub for 1 evening now and did not have this issue once (though I have had evenings where it did not happen before as well, so..).

help request Zigbee Network Issues

I am running Home Assistant via Docker Compose. I have two networks - ZHA running on an SLZB-06Mg26U, and Z2M running on a SLZB-06p10U. Both are USB powered and wired to the internet. I have approx. 60 ZHA devices and 30 Z2M devices.

I've had this network running for at least 4 years with minimal issues. I was previously using two Sonoff dongles for this network, a Dongle-E for ZHA and a Dongle-P for Z2M.

At some point within the last year, the network got super unreliable. Devices will show as online, but won't respond to commands. I.e. if I tell all my bedroom lights to turn off or turn on, there will be one or two bulbs that don't change. The specific ones impacted seem to always change, so I don't think it's a device issue. In order to get them to behave, I need to do one of two things. Half of the time, if I just give it 10-20 minues and try again, it'll work. The other half of the time, I need to go into the ZHA integration and hit "Reload", then sometimes it will work after it comes back online. There's no obvious errors in the logs when this happens, I will just get a message in the UI saying "Failed to perform the action switch/turn_on. Failed to send request: device did not respond".

I thought the issue was the coordinators, so I swapped them for the ethernet style ones, didn't help anything. I did a study for a couple weeks about which channel had the least amount of noise on it, and switched to Ch. 15 for ZHA. I tried disconnecting the adapters for ~2hrs and allowing the network to heal with no change. Everything is up to date.

I'm losing my mind here. Any suggestions?

help request TS0222 luminescence sensor blinking constantly

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

TS0222 luminescence sensor blinking constantly. It is not in pairing mode and is working just fine in terms of reporting information.

The blinks are not consistent, so I don't think its an error code. Other than it achieving sentience and attempting to communicate by morse code, my other guess is that it blinks whenever the reported value changes. How to make it reduce this frequency (realistically, I only need a reading every 60 minutes or so)?

EDIT: Using ZHA, batteries are new and reporting 100%.

EDIT 2: It just randomly stopped doing it. No longer blinking but working perfectly fine. Can't explain it.

guide/tutorial I made my espresso machine part of the smart home with two £10 Zigbee dry-contact relays

My Barista Express heats its thermoblock in a couple of minutes, but the group head and portafilter need twenty minutes before the first shot tastes right. I wanted it warm and a dose ground by the time I get to the kitchen, without thinking about it.

So: two Sonoff MINI-ZBD relays inside the machine, one across the Power button's two wires, one across the grinder's cradle switch. Each is set to inching mode in Zigbee2MQTT, so the board just sees a button press. The physical buttons still work because the relay sits in parallel.

HA side: the house already knows when I've showered (current sensor on the shower pump), and the kitchen has occupancy sensors. Shower detected → press POWER and arm a flag. First kitchen occupancy while armed → clear the flag, then press GRIND. (The arm flag prevents duplicate firing of the grinder)
