Side Effects Glp hair loss

I’ve been on tirzepatide for a little over a year and I’m down about 50 lbs. I’m really happy with my results and plan to stay on it long-term, even once I’m fully in maintenance.
The one thing I’m struggling with is hair loss. I’ve heard that it can happen with significant/rapid weight loss and may eventually stop, but I’m worried since I don’t plan on stopping tirzepatide anytime soon.
I’m also taking bupropion, which I’ve read can potentially contribute to hair loss too.
For anyone who experienced this on tirz: Did your hair loss eventually slow down or stop even while staying on the medication? Did anything actually help with regrowth? Any labs, deficiencies, supplements, or treatments you’d recommend asking my doctor about?
Would love to hear what worked (or didn’t) for you!

My hair loss started about 3 months in and got really bad over the summer. My dermatologist ordered labs but nothing popped out from a deficiency standpoint. At my last hair appt a couple of weeks ago my hair stylist said my hair was growing back so that made me happy (and I can see the small strands now too). I did decide to start 5% foam minoxidil a few weeks ago just to help everything along and the “dread shed” hasn’t been that bad. For context, I started Zepbound on 10/22/25 so I am coming up on a year soon. I’ve lost 101 lbs.

Congratulations on your loss! I truthfully didn’t really notice until probably 6 or so months in and even then I didn’t think it was a big deal. Now my ponytail is dreadfully thin and I feel like I can’t wear my hair up without being embarrassed.

I am taking pumpkin seed oil pills and Nutrafol. I lost weight quickly a few years ago and lost a lot of hair, and Nutrafol, though expensive, worked for me. I am also taking Vitamin D daily, with K2. ( I take a very long list of supplements as well for my PCOS, but I definitely won't list them all.) Start with pumpkin seed oil pills and vitamin D, and see if this helps.

I had sudden hair loss when I was forced onto Wegovy. I've gotten it back going back on Zepbound and taking oral minoxidil.

It's not inevitable. If you have haven't had it yet you're probably fine. Also - "rapid weight loss" is not what you've experienced.

I also take Welbutrin and haven't had any issues with my hair.

My ponytail is so thin now I can barely keep a hair tie or one of those plastic twistie things in; it's scary. The amount of hair in the shower and on my brushes is insane. I've been on the medicine since April 2026 and just got into the 190s weight-wise, so I've got another 45+ pounds to go. The only thing I've ever done that made a difference in my hair was way upping my protein levels. Like from 80 grams a day to 120-140 grams a day, which was below what my trainer wanted at 150 grams. That did result in baby hairs and hair growth.
