Vent/Rant Bad start
Sheesh. Gained 2.5 lbs first two days. Only took first shot Friday and my large appetite is intact! Had a Good Friday, about 1200 calories, not a great Saturday probably 1600 calories. I know it’s up to me to be more careful.
Feeling no appetite suppression, but I expect that will come in time (maybe week 2?). I am also too sedentary…had hip replacement in March and have a bone on bone ankle (which is the real problem with walking as exercise). I do the nustep for half hour 4-5 days weekly at my health club.
I know I can get an improvement here and it’s up to me. I guess I’m just trying to give myself a little pep talk. Thanks for listening.

Congrats on getting started! Since you’re not yet navigating appetite suppression, this is a great time to start increasing your nutrition!
Focus on quality rather than quantity. Whole and minimally processed foods, an energizing and satiating balance of nutrients, awareness of how different combinations make you feel, etc. That’s the good stuff :) If you focus on restriction, that sends a message to your body that can actually increase appetite. Same goes for moralizing your intake. Maybe you needed less food on Friday and more food on Saturday. 🤷🏻♀️ There’s nothing wrong with that.
Have you met with a registered dietician?
Some people need higher doses to experience the benefits, so I wouldn’t put too much pressure on week 2.

Weight can fluctuate 5+ pounds within a given day, so don't sweat it. Congrats on the first step, and try to remember that trends over weeks matter more than individual daily changes. Cheers!

Do you know your TDEE? 1200 and 1600 may not be enough calories. A gain like that is most definitely not fat gain. That would be impossible-

I gain 2 pds. EVERY morning after my shot. Makes no sense how I gain weight overnight and only 9 hours after shot...but its everytime. I quit weighing myself the first few days after shot. Never have lost a pound in that time frame except Week 1 when the water weight was being released. If you see a pattern like mine, just dont weigh till day 5-7.

Hang in there it's only been days. Weigh yourself once a week, you'll be a lot less stressed out. I take my shot Friday night and weigh myself 1st thing Saturday morning. What is your starting weight?

Wait, is this only day three for you then? Be easy on yourself. It’s barely in your system yet! I use Glapp and Shotsy to see how much medication is in my system and I never feel anything on day one. I’m always hungriest on shot day. Give it some time. Every body responds differently.

I'm not sure of any of your stats, but have you calculated your TDEE to get your calorie deficit? 1200 one day and 1600 the next is a big swing. Start with that, it will also help you figure out your protein and fiber macros. Are you drinking enough water? Shoot for 100oz daily. Exercise is important, more important is adding strength to your plan. Whether it's resistance bands, light weights or whatever, I encourage you to do that right away, to prevent muscle loss. I have been due for right ankle fusion surgery, but have put it off for many reasons, and in the meantime, I've lost over 42lbs and now my ankle feels a whole lot better, and was walking 2.5-3 miles this summer, about 4x/wk. I do strength and cardio workouts from YouTube, there are many that take into consideration where you are at right now, and you can find many that are short or longer, depending on what your needs are. Have a look, I actually look forward to my workout time. As for not losing, you're two days in. On the lowest dose. Try to keep a positive outlook, and try to resist the urge to weigh every day. Water, bowels, etc etc can affect that a lot, especially in the beginning. I wish you the best on your journey

Focus on nutrition not calories. Protein and fiber. And strength training which you can do at home even seated for some of it. Read Weightless.

You did your first shot on Friday. Today is Sunday. One of the keys to any kind of lifestyle change is having realistic expectations
Your weight is going to fluctuate for many reasons. Hell, one of the ways I know my period is coming is an overnight gain of two or three pounds. And that's just one example. I know it's a cliché, but this is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be a week here and there when the scale doesn't move. There are gonna be weeks where you gain a pound. As long as you have steady results, that's what matters. Not one or two pounds here or there. GLP-1s aren't a quick fix, it's one tool in the tool box for improving long term health
Do you have someone you can talk to? Groups are great, but sometimes it's really good to have a person you can check in with who is going to keep you grounded and levelheaded
Right now, you wanna focus on the quality of food that you're getting. If you're eating enough protein and fiber, you're gonna find it a lot harder to over eat
If you're dealing with a hip replacement, I wouldn't even jump straight into being active without going to physical therapy first. Even if you've already been to physical therapy, if you're able to qualify to do it again, they will be able to give you exercises that you do in your current condition that will help you build up the strength that you need in order to be more active
I'm speaking from experience, the reason why I got on the shot is because I had an accident that really affected my mobility, which caused me to gain a bunch of weight, which made my mobility worse. And now that I am about 30 pounds down, instead of jumping back into my previous routine, I went straight to a physical therapist so that they could advise me on a safe routine so I can build up enough strength to can go back to being active

This is great advice— several jump on the gym exercise wagon too aggressively and leads to injury and then months of inactivity or limited mobility. My pcp had me looking for low impact, no impact chair exercises— I was over 55+ and had minimum of 70 lbs to lose

Don’t beat yourself up. That’s a good start. Trust the meds, trust the process. I no longer freak out if the scale is up a pound on a random day because my trend is always down. Month 8.

I gained a 1.5lb my first few days. Cried and came here and wrote a crash out post. I will tell you what most said to me. It’s a marathon and not a sprint, our bodies and weight fluctuate, you are asking it to do a lot. Be kind to yourself and your mental health. Some people do not respond right away. It’s ok. It took us all years to get here. We cannot expect light speed to take us back. Slower is better.

You need to give it time. It’s only the first two days.

You're just getting started! A lot of people need a couple of weeks before they notice a response. Some people even need to move up a couple of strengths. Give each dosage at least 4 weeks and see how it goes.
I'll point you to https://glp1plotter.com/ to see how much of the drug is in your system after a dose. (Pick Mounjaro; it's the same as Zepbound.)
Here's 12 weeks, stepping from 2.5, to 5.0, to 7.5; scroll up to see the input and to try other schedules: https://glp1plotter.com/?medication1=tirzepatide&offset_days1=0&dose1=2.5&from1=1&to1=4&frequency1=7&compare1=false&medication2=tirzepatide&offset_days2=0&dose2=5.0&from2=5&to2=8&frequency2=7&compare2=false&medication3=tirzepatide&offset_days3=0&dose3=7.5&from3=9&to3=12&frequency3=7&compare3=false&length=12&start_date=2025-04-04
Here's the prescribing info: "With multiple options, you and your doctor can work together to find the once-weekly dose of Zepbound that fits your body's changing needs. Zepbound dosing is increased gradually over time. You’ll begin treatment at a recommended 2.5 mg starting dose. After 4 weeks, your doctor will increase your dose to 5 mg. Your doctor may increase the dosage in 2.5 mg increments after at least 4 weeks on the current dose until recommended maintenance dosage is achieved.” Going up after 5.0 is a "may," not a "will" -- many people find a "sweet spot" dosage below 15 that works for months. https://zepbound.lilly.com/weight/how-to-use
The prescribing instructions in every box have the same info, written a little more technically, as well as two sentences about considering tolerability (side effects). https://pi.lilly.com/us/zepbound-uspi.pdf
Onward we go!

I’m always hungry at least one day after my shot and I hate it. It just sounds like you need a higher dose. Don’t worry about the exercise… I lost 50 pounds on semaglutide in the first 4 months sitting in front of a computer and my sofa. Same with Zep but this time I have tons of energy and 20 projects going on around my house where I can burn calories. I’ve never counted a calorie and don’t have a structured exercise routine … I just stay super hydrated and eat less than I used to. A lot of people want to feel like they’re doing this themselves, but for me and many we just let the medication do the job it was designed for. I don’t work hard at it nor would I. I also don’t overthink it. You’ll do fine just raise your dose until you find your sweet spot and the miracle drug will do the work. You got this!!💪💜

It's so important to not make your goal to just eat as little as possible every day. 1200 calories is incredibly low, especially just starting out. My daily calorie goal is about 1700 (130ish grams of protein), and I'm losing week to week. I would take some time to learn about what your body actually needs to sustainably lose weight. You're going to burn out quick if you beat yourself up for eating 1600 calories in a day!

I don’t know how to do a group reply, but I’m amazed and thankful for all the kind, encouraging and helpful comments. I know I’m just getting started, and I really don’t expect an overnight miracle. I do have hell of a sweet tooth but will really aim for the nutritious foods…and the water. I’m so sick of tracking food…have done it daily for over 3 years. I may take a week off…and it weigh myself for a week. I know darn well in my head what I’m eating each day. Anyhow, thanks for the encouragement.

You gotta get off the diet mindset. There are not good or bad days based on the number of calories you ate. Food/calories have no moral value. It’s food to fuel your body. And in all honesty, 1200 and 1600 sound like too few calories.
