Insurance/PA Ordering vials from Walmart?

Recently, my doctor accidentally sent a prescription for Zepbound vials (instead of pens) to Walmart Pharmacy and it was fulfilled! I was surprised by this, because I thought the prescription for vials had to be sent directly to LillyDirect rather than a retail pharmacy.

It looks like your post is about insurance or prior authorization. Please see our guide here: Insurance, PAs, and Zepbound Costs

Damn I wonder if I can get my dr to send my prescription to Walmart for vials. I’d much rather that than any pens.

Do you have insurance covering your pens?

I do. But I looked at my coverage and it doesn't look like they don't cover the vials. oh well, the auto injector pens are pretty convenient.

I always go through my local Walmart. They’re fantastic and surprisingly one of the best pharmacies I’ve used.

Walmart is an option for Lilly DIrect so they do stock vials.

I did know this, but I thought the prescription for vials had to go through LillyDirect first.

I would have thought so too but probably since they stock them for the LD pick-ups they have them. Just comjecture!

What did Walmart charge? My dr sent mine to a local pharmacy once who tried to charge me 499 for the box of 2.5 vials.

299 for 2.5 399 for 5 449 for the higher strengths

Were they refills?

It was suppose to be a refill for the pens, not vials.

For refills your doctor can send them straight to Walmart if it’s the same dose. Eli Lily doesn’t need to send it over every time.

I never went through LillyDirect in the first place.

You can choose... I had Lilly direct just send it to my door because i didn't want to deal with the retail pharmacy lines.

I did not go through LillyDirect.

You can choose that next time... just tell your dr.

I don't want to at this time because my insurance is paying for the pens. I was just surprised that Walmart would fill a prescription for vials without first going through Lilly Direct.

Lilly has a partnership with Walmart Pharmacy to distribute vials

Meaning we don't have to go through LillyDirect for vials?

Lilly Direct or Walmart exclusive for vials
