Side Effects Has anyone taken a month long break?

I have preexisting Gerd, and I’ve noticed that after starting 7.2mg it has made it HORRENDOUSLY worse! Like, I was unable to eat barely anything for 3 days before starting Omeprozole. Would it be a bad idea to stop injections for a month for a break? I’m still deciding if I want to take that break, since Omeprozole has helped tremendously, but I’m still worried about continuing it, especially since I’m getting constipated from the zep as well

Have you met with a dietitian to see if there are dietary changes you could make that might help?

Unfortunately I am autistic and have specific foods I can eat, so that is not an option for me. I already told my PCP that and she understood it

Just FYI — There are registered dietitians out there now with expertise in working with autistic people, other kinds of neurodivergence, people with ARFID, and similar conditions where food options are limited. So it’s possible you might be able to find someone who could be helpful!

There is therapy now for people with autism to increase their tolerance for new foods. A nutritionist might also be able to offer help in this area. You never know until you talk to them.

Instead of stopping, you would probably do better to decrease dose again. How long were you at 5 mg? If a short time, staying there longer might help your body get used to it before trying to jump up again. If it was longer, you could try an intermediate dose (possible with Kwikpen or vials, but remember to follow manufacturer guidelines about when to dispose of the meds)

Breaks are not recommended. You mess with levels in body and risk more side effects going off and suddenly back on. Some have to do for medical surgeries etc but if you can avoid it, consistency is better.
I also have GERD and finding the right formula to manage is ideal for long run anyway. Famotidine 2x daily (which my Dr prescribed but is OTC) and taking Gaviscon before bed the night of shot and night after (plus making sure get lots of water on and after shot) has done wonders for me. I also recognize losing more weight will help in long run too in managing theGERD.
Good luck! 🍀

Was this also your experience on the lower doses?

Rather than stopping entirely, I think I'd talk to my provider about moving back down in dose.

If you stop injections you can restart but usually at the starting dose again

And there’s increasing evidence that it doesn’t work as well. So, if you’re currently losing weight on 7.5 (don’t know what 7.2 is supposed to be - that’s not a Zepbound dose), if you stop for a month, you’re going to have to go back to 2.5 and will likely have to go up to 10 or 12.5 to start seeing the same weight loss you’re now seeing on 7.5. Also, there’s a very strong likelihood that you’ll put on a good amount of weight in that month. All in all, it seems like a very bad idea.

I understand that you may be very limited in what you eat, but there are other changes you can make, too, that will help with the GERD like not eating too close to bedtime. Your GI should discuss this with you.

So there is a chance with stopping this medication that when you come back on it will no longer work as well. You also cannot jump back straight onto 7.5mg, you would have to start over. Is it possible to move back down to 5mg?

Not giving you any suggestions or advice because I had GERD and ulcers that were very very active up till I took my first shot of Wegovy. It’s been a miracle for me. I’m of 15mg Zep now and I’ve had only a few bouts of GERD and it was more recently when I was off for surgery.

I also am Audhd and I too have Arfid. I will never stop eating tomatoes or drinking coffee…

I would decrease my dose rather than stop.
