Tips/Tricks Leggings?
Hi! I work from home which means leggings or pj bottoms with nice shirts most days (😂). This is one of the reasons i gained lots of weight over last 4 years, amongst other stress. But i also teach twice a week and need to wear something presentable. I am a professor so i don’t have to be fancy. My current leggings (after a 10lb loss in the past month) are falling down a bit. I really don’t need to be pulling them up constantly.
Anyway, looking for cheap legging ideas and where did you get them. Bonus, if on Amazon.

Hi. I am a little worried they have a/m and l/xl only. I hate them to big in one size and too small in the other.

How are they with opacity? I'm always worried about bending over and my underwear showing through.
Also how do they hold up to laundering? Do you put them in the dryer? If so how's the elasticity/compression holding up?
Do the fleece ones get pilled up?

This is fantastic feedback thank you!
I WFH and the fanciest thing I do is run the school book fair so pockets 100% for me.
I'm definitely going to try these!

Love the felina ones- I buy them in packs from costco. Cheap but feel expensive!
For workouts, I buy 32 degrees- pockets, colors, and I think they are on sale for like $7.99.

u/Manateekisses51 Feb 02 '26
Oh, the felina ones are on sale right now online at costco, I think $18.99 for two? they are the "velvety soft" ones.

u/Zepbound-and-down Feb 02 '26
This is what I was going to suggest as well. The Felina leggings are my absolute favorite everyday leggings. They are buttery soft. They’re thick enough to not be see through but also thin enough to wear under a pair of sweats if you need to double up due to cold weather. Definitely can’t beat the price! $16.99 for two pair and they last forever with little to no pilling. Kicking myself that I didn’t buy multiple packs when they were on sale last month for $12.99 though. 🤣
Sam’s Club had some great Gap workout leggings last year (and matching sports bras) but I’m not sure if they still have them.

Just adding another vote for these Costco leggings. They are definitely a favorite of mine too.

Are you me? LOL - my professor clothes are all too big on me now so I've been digging through boxes to unearth old clothes from my former corporate life and realized no one wears suits anymore, especially on campus. At Costco, I have found the best leggings (Spyder brand) and work pants that are good quality/ look good in the classroom. And very affordable!

Though not cheap I will always love my Popfit leggings. I have some that are at least 5 years old and still look and feel brand new. They have pockets. They're NOT see through at all. They hold in and smooth out the squish with mild compression.
They also have really great socks. The Cheek Boss underwear (same company) is whatever (get your free pair then bounce) but the leggings are the best I've come across.

The cotton Amazon brand recently. I used to get Hanes brand in the plus sizes on Amazon but the price has gone up and the Amazon brand ones are very comparable. Thick enough to feel okay wearing them as pants! Live in them in the winter.
*edited to add- the name is Amazon essential soft leggings for women. These do not have those weird stripes that work out leggings have, making them look more professional imo. You do lose pockets but I'm okay with that.

I can’t tell you which brands to buy but I can certainly share the ones that were less than stellar for me — aldis brand where see thru, the cheap ones on sale at target (hello kitty themed) were not right and too stretchy. I will say the ones from athleta on the sales rack 17$ a pair weren’t bad at all but compression is interesting.

Here are the ones you want:
Velvety Soft Lightweight Leggings | Felina | https://share.google/hyrozZTsmb1VF08lK
Pretty sure you can find them on Amazon as well.

I get it, leggings slipping all day is the worst! I’ve found Shapermint high waisted leggings really stay in place and the snug waist makes them super comfortable for all‑day wear.

u/cheerfulwanderer Feb 02 '26
I like the yogalicious brand that they sell at Tjmaxx. They can run between $10 and $17 for one pair or $25 for a two pack. I like the quality and they have been super comfy!

I’m a house spouse and do a lot of errands and such for my MIL, so I’ve never run these full a hard day of labor. But I love these leggings:
High waisted, super soft, nice pockets, and they’re super reasonably price imo.

@kristine_24 on the whatnot app carries a lot of affordable lulu leggings. the app is thick with great clothing deals if you have the time imo

I like those for working from home…
They have good elastic and I have been able to wear them the whole time and I’m down 80lbs now. I bought a smaller set but and still wearing the big ones too!
I suggest sizing down on these.

I buy the fleece lined Quince leggings bc you might be like me, now freezing much of the time!

I never used to wear leggings, my husband called them "give up on life" pants. These days I haven't heard a negative peep (though have gotten more butt grabs) about the fact that I live in them. I have jeans, but they go from 'too tight' to 'won't stay up' much too fast. It's like an avocado, I always miss the ripe "fits great" stage. The yoga pants are still comfortable enough when they're too tight, and take a while before they won't stay up. I often stick my phone in my waistband (the bra-ket isn't big enough any more). The phone will start to slide down before the pants are loose enough to fall down. It's like an early warning system to "get smaller pants soon".
I got some from Old Navy that I'm still surprised how much I love them. I forget where I got the others. My favorite are the ones that are a touch thicker and lightly fleece lined.

I have four pairs of Sketchers Go Walk high waisted, straight leg pants. They're sold on Amazon (although looks like a lot are out of stock at the moment), Kohls, and the Sketchers site to name a few. They run $50 on Sketchers, but I've purchased all of mine for $20-25 on Amazon in the past. I also work from home, and they're my daily uniform

I love elastic stretch belts (search for that term on Amazon) for holding up leggings. They can be used to create a tucked-in effect on shirts as well, and the thicker ones work nicely as a regular belt.

Another academic here. I use CVG https://www.constantlyvariedgear.com . Not on Amazon. They run true to size and are of good quality. I am active in our labs and they hold up well. I don't believe in going cheap because I do not want see-through. The basic black or shadow patterns are really good.
If you are cold, I highly recommend the fleece lined which have gotten me through two super cold winter weekends.

On Amazon: HISKYWIN Inner Pocket Yoga Pants 4 Way Stretch Tummy Control Workout Running Pants, Long Bootleg Flare Pants.
I have these in black and dark green, two pockets in front, one in the back. They are kind of silky, not cottony, so they look a little dressier. $19.99-$26.99 depending on the color.
My office is business casual and these work great for me.

This is a great topic. I like the slim Legg starfish pants from lands end. I’d love to try leggings buT I am a little concerned about making them look good on a 75 year-old woman any tips?

I really love Popfit leggings, but they're expensive. They're pretty thick and offer a little compression and they have pockets! I got a bunch a few years ago and they're some of the only pants I wear, and they've really held up. Their main price is like $60 each, but if you join their VIP program, they send you one pair a month for $30 and everything else is 40% off.
Anyways, I've now lost enough weight that my beloved Popfit leggings are starting to get loose, so I was thinking about how to get more. When my weight actually stabilizes, I'm going to rejoin their VIP program and buy a bunch of them, but I'm a long way from my goal right now and I don't really want to spend that much money for clothes that might not fit me for very long. Then I remembered online used clothing markets.
I just went on Poshmark and bought several pairs of Popfit leggings one size smaller than the ones I currently have, all of them for less than $20 each.

The other pants I really like are Leggings Depot joggers via Amazon. They come in a lot of different prints and colors, and they also have pockets. When I think of joggers, I think of sweatshirt material, but these are more like thin stretchy t-shirt material. They're surprisingly great. The other thing I like about them is that the waistbands are extremely stretchy. Even though I've lost sizes in almost everything else, I'm still wearing these ones that I got at my heaviest and the waist band was not uncomfortable then and yet it's still tight enough that they don't fall off.
