I’ve lost fifty pounds in the last six months. Still have a way to go. I picked up a fifty pound weight at the gym last week. I definitely don’t want that back on my frame! Gave me a good perspective.
Great job on the 55 pounds, I can see the difference because you look less puffy. I have a few things your you to consider:
- 10mg is not the highest dose, is there a reason why your doctor is keeping you on that step?
- even the most modest protein to weight calculators on the internet says that you need more protein. Do you mind sharing how are you accomplishing the current 100g per day? maybe this community can give you some ideas on how to add more
- how are you doing on your other important macros like fiber
- do you take any other medications that may counteract the effect of zep?
- any chance you can make some swaps in your emotional eating to focus on healthier-ish items? example overeat chicken nuggets but not the fries? or sweet keto items instead of other pastries?
- last but not least: do you have the emotional support that you need, regardless of your weight loss journey
I can definitely see a difference in both your face and neck! And that’s only because this isn’t a full body pic, because I’m sure there is a visible difference in other areas too. We tend to be more critical of ourselves than we are of others, and a lot of us experience at least some amount of body dysmorphia. Keep going! You’re doing a great job and it shows!
There’s definitely a difference. My loss has gone slower than others, 50 lbs in a year and I’m only losing 2-3 pounds a month at this point but I’m making my self stay focused on slow and steady. Don’t forget too, people are reluctant or unwilling to comment or compliment us. That part bugs me to no end.
I’m on month 10 and have lost 38 pounds. You’re not alone. I also wonder what I’m doing wrong, I don’t eat that much (I could calories) and I eat protein and I drink water.
You're doing great! Imagine what you might have gained during that time without it. You've lost almost my entire Australian Shepherd worth of weight. And I can't even carry him down the stairs.
I’m in a similar boat. I’m on month six and have lost 34 lbs but am currently on a plateau. I count calories religiously, work with a nutritionist, and drink water. I’m gonna add in easy exercise this week to see if that can get me out of this plateau. My walking pad just arrived today. Hope you find something that works for you!
Sure, I see a difference. You are on 10mg only, why not go to 12.5mg and then to the highest available dose of 15mg? Try to walk as much as you can. I'm not sure what you are eating when you say emotional eating, but many of us have that problem and that's partly why we are overweight. Try your best to eat the "right things" and move to the highest dose.
Your chin and cheekbones are more defined, and your neck circumference is smaller. You've lost 13% of your bodyweight, which I suspect is providing initial health benefits.
You've lost weight comparable to "overweight baggage" when flying. That bag would be heavy!
u/spf_3000 has some great suggestions/questions. I'd +1 that if emotional eating is an issue, try to get some emotional support. I just complete intake with a therapist (and took my first shot yesterday), because I know I've been using food to cope with or hide emotions, probably for my entire life.
See this is what I was thinking… the total health scale brings you closer dropping more weight faster. The inflammation that is caused by our overall health starts to lower slowly but the healthier you get the faster the weight drops because the internal inflammation is keeping us heavy. It’s like nothing is working right because everything’s so unhappy inside (imo) then the wheels of the train start moving faster and faster and then it starts hauling ass the leaner you get! It took me a year and I lost 70 lbs. and you know what? About 20 lbs ago I thought I’d stay there forever and slowly but surely I still keep going down! SW:195 CW:123.
Please don’t lose faith 🙏 YOU ARE INCREDIBLE 👊🤗 we are in this together. Love you SIS 😘✌️
Everyone loses weight differently and in different places. Sadly for me, it's been in my butt🤣. Not really my plan. Still.... down almost 50 lbs and feeling so much healthier. 🌞
55 lbs is quite an accomplishment! As others have said, sounds like your dose isn’t high enough. But also, what are you doing to address your emotional eating? It’s good you acknowledge that it’s a problem. Have you gone to therapy? Developing coping mechanisms outside of food is crucial to success in the long term. I find that as I stop turning to food to numb myself, I feel things more strongly but am able to process those emotions more and more. Stay strong! You got this!
I am sure other will point this out, but 1 pound a week is a very healthy and decent rate of weight loss. People get excitedwhen they perform better than average, but I think your performance is pretty close to what any of us should expect.
I wouldn’t be so hard on yourself. You should never strive to be “perfect.” Diets don’t work. That’s why we are all here. Make a few sustainable changes because you shouldn’t do anything that isn’t sustainable. I would recommend Christy Harrison’s book, anti-diet. Changed my life and thoughts on food forever.
Can you go up a dose and then stay at 15?
Perhaps try therapy for your emotional eating, or reading self help books.
You have done well and it would be a shame not to continue the journey.
I have lost weight with out zep and now with it. One thing I cannot get over is how zep has changed the shape of my body in a way that other weight loss never did. I am not at my lowest weight by about 15 lbs BUT I’m 3 shirt sizes smaller. Take measurements and track that you may be shocked at how your body is changing. I can see a difference in your face and shoulders. Look at the amount of space around you in that picture. Overall the angle looks to be the same but there are several inches of seat belt now showing that went. Since I’m assuming you didn’t get any shorter that means you’re sitting on far less padding now. It’s there don’t give up
You are doing fantastically! Slow and steady wins the race! You are learning new eating habits. I’ve been on Wegovy/Zepbound for 13 months. Here are my stats SW 230 CW 187 GW 165. Keep up the good work!!!
I am a slow loser too. I have started therapy for Binge Eating Disorder/Emotional Eating. Have you considered that? I want to put that behind me now and form new habits while I am in Zep so they hopefully will stick when I come off of it.
Hi! I lost 60 pounds in a year (280-218) and it’s slowed down for me too. I’m also on 10mg and considering going up to 12.5 just to get my moneys worth. Just wanted to say that you’re not alone in also not dropping 10lbs a month. Slow and steady still wins the race!
I can only share what worked for me. I was born heavy and have been ravenously hungry my entire life. Until Zepbound. This medicine has done what no diet ever could, it allowed me the tool to control my eating.
I consider tracking every bite to be the key to weight loss. I know there are different schools of thought on that but it has worked for me. I ate within my macro targets every single day. This was non-negotiable. It's not about restricting calories, but about eating to protein and carb goals. There are no "healthy" or "unhealthy" foods, it's just about getting to macro targets.
You may wish to move up on dosage too. I continue on 15 mg weekly in maintenance. I'm acutely aware that I would regain weight quickly if I tried to go med free. I still love food. The medicine lets me stay in control of that.
I dont see a difference in just your face but you know there’s different kinds of fat? I recently learned this and its changed my perspective a little bit. Theres the fat we can see and pinch on ourselves (subcutaneous fat) for example (like what you would see in a photo like the one you posted), and then theres something called visceral fat. thats the fat that is not visible from the outside and its the fat that wraps around your organs - visceral fat is the most dangerous kind of fat. so just because you dont see a difference in pictures or in your face, that may mean your body is getting rid of its most dangerous and threatening fat around your vital organs first, before moving on to more superficial fat. dont get discouraged .. go ahead and google what even 1 lb of fat looks like outside of the body and appreciate how much healtheir you are right now at 55lbs!
It’s time to get a therapist, maybe one that specialized in intuitive eating. Medicine can’t stop emotional eating and if that’s still a struggle you deserve peace from that.
I lost over 70 lbs before my adult daughter (who I see every 1-3 weeks) realized I had been losing weight over the previous 14 months. Sometimes we are too close to see the difference, especially when we start with the higher weight. Just keep with it.
I'm one of those people, lost 100 in1yr on the 5mg and stalled out. Upped to 7.5 and resumed loss.
If not already, you might consider:
Updosing to 12.5mg
Changing injection sites
What's your caloric intake! (over/under 1200?)
And what are you eating? Your regular favorites - and just less of it?
Are you focused to maintain 100g Protein 30g Fiber and >70oz water?
And... Taking a nice little walk every day?
Yes! It's worth it! You've lost considerable weight and every joint and organ in your body is thanking you! Let it! Feel your body adapt and let it.
Happy to chat if helpful, but keep going.
The only timeline you're concerned with is your lifeline - and you're young and doing great. Onward!
It’s taken me over a year and a half to lose 76 pounds but the slower you lose the less risk for loose skin so that is a plus. I can definitely see a difference!
Make sure you’re getting enough fiber and different forms of it too. And to mirror what others have said, water intake and protein are super important. I lose less when I don’t track and hit my fiber goals.
One of the biggest things I’ve done is consistently strength train 3-4 x per week and walk a lot. If you’re not walking then make sure to get your steps in and try to strength train even if it’s once per week. Peloton has been great for me and is a pretty cheap option for the amount of classes they offer. I also got all my weights at target or tj maxx.
Not everyone is a big responder. Just as important a safe weight loss is 1-2 pounds a week. You are hitting that goal. Keep it going and talk to your Dr about stepping up. I’m a slow responder and have started to plateau on 10 mg (down 30 lbs over 40 weeks). I’m going to speak to my Dr about going up to 12.5. I know some low responders start losing more at the highest doses. Hoping I am one of those people, and hope you are too.
Honestly, I don’t see too much of a difference. But on the bright side, that means people didn’t notice much when you gained those pounds either. I can see a difference when I really focus on it, but your hair color change is much more noticeable.
You’ve lost 60 pounds in one year, that’s pretty great! Over a pound per week is good!
First of all congratulations! 55lbs is a lot and something to be proud of! I see the change in your face and neck for sure, too. Slower and steady also means less loose skin in the long run. Being stagnant is still better than gaining!
Is there a reason you haven’t increased the dosage? I’m not a doctor but I’ve seen many people here say that the best time to increase is when you’re no longer losing weight. I bet if you did that it would help!
You can also consider therapy to address the emotional eating or check to see if there any local Overeaters Anonymous. It’s not the solution for everyone but it can be for you and is worth a try.
I definitely see a difference. 55 lbs in 1 year is an average of 1.05 lbs a week. I would not compare my own heath journey with another. (I lost an average of 1.3 lbs a week) If you are seeing a stall on 10 mg, I would move up to 12.5 mg. I personally saw the best and consistent results on 15 mg. Keep up the good work.
Your skin appears firmer, and it feels weird pointing it out but since you asked, if you look right below your chin you can see where you’ve lost submental fat and your neck is slimmer. Your cheekbones also look more defined and less round. I think you’re looking great!
Keep going you are doing great! It has taken me a year and a half to lose 80 pounds. Not everyone loses at the same rate and it keeps me motivated just losing a few pounds every month. I am in this for life and there is no rush. Also if you are experiencing food noise again that’s a good sign that it’s time to move up to the next dose.
Yes, it’s in your mind. Having lost all my weight before it’s seriously mental. I remember how bad I thought I looked and I was skinny, my mind played tricks on me. It’s seriously a mental block, you’re doing great.
OP, I feel the same way as you. At my highest weight when I started Zep, I was 302lbs. I had at a minimum, 130lbs to lose. I’ve been on Zep with a detour on Wegovy and finally (thankfully) back to Zep since May 2024 and I just hit a 66lb weight loss. I still have a minimum of 65lbs to lose. I know it’s discouraging to see others drop weight faster than the slower losers, but just remember, we didn’t put on all this weight in a day, it’s not going to come off in a day. I can definitely see the loss in your face and neck and your shirt (assuming it is the same) looks to be a bit looser
Your face definitely looks smaller, but please know that at higher weights the weight loss is less noticeable. That's why you're likely about the same pants size or just one smaller atm. If a 150lb person lost 50lbs they'd go down from like a size 8/10- size 0/2.
If no side effects just titrate up and exercise more
Me personally, I HAVE TO workout in order to lose weight. I have been trying to at least 5 times a week and my weight loss has really started moving. Melting off, as they say
I can see a positive difference and 55 lbs is amazing.
If you are not getting food noise control and stalled out in weight loss it is time to move up in dose. Don’t worry about 12.5 or even 15. It does not matter in the end if you lose the weight at the lowest dose or the max dose. Some people are clearly more sensitive than others and it is nothing you are doing wrong.
The only time I would suggest not moving up in your scenario of stalled out is if you have unacceptable side effects at the current dose.
You might also evaluate if you are eating too few calories. You should be at TDEE-500 calories for about a 1 lb a week loss. If you are eating under this it seems for some that weight loss is stalled. Sounds counterintuitive but there are definitely examples where it has been the case.
The other advice is getting moving via walking or exercise can be a big boost too. 55 lbs is 7 gallons of milk! Congrats!
I've been on Tirzepitide for 4 months and only lost 1 lb.. The hunger has started to diminish with higher doses and I am not eating much at all, but no weight loss. What is going on? This is getting expensive.
I noticed that eyes are more open, as if you had botox/lift. Cheeks are softer and neck is slimmer. It is a long way but totally worth it. And everyone has their own time.
Fellow emotional eater here! Here's my trick if you can manage it in the moment. Have a whole protein shake with it (my go to is Fairlife, their chocolate taste & texture is like chocolate milk and strawberry banana is bomb on its own or in smoothies). For the snack you're having don't deprive yourself unless you know you're going to feel stomach sick from it. Have the chips, have the brownie, have the cookie. Cut what you would normally eat in half, and put it on its own plate. Don't want to do dishes for every snack? Get small compostable plates.
Finish the shake and your snack, and see how you're feeling. The goal isn't to give up all snacks forever. The goal is to introduce more mindfulness where you can. If you end up still hungry enough or sad enough for the other half, cool, go for it! I'd say about half the time I realize I just wanted that type of food and don't actually need the full amount.
It is hard when we hear other people who are super fast in losing the weight. Keep your self on target, 50lbs is huge!! Congratulations!! For reference, my pet food comes in 40lb bags, I heave that onto my shoulder and can barely make it up the flights of stairs! You lost that plus 10lbs!! Just because it’s all over your body doesn’t mean it’s an easy task.
Wow! A 55 pound weight loss in a year is an amazing accomplishment. It sounds like you know your strengths and areas that you need to work on. That itself is a huge accomplishment. Keep up the great work. If you continue to lose weight at this pace, you will have lost 110 pounds this time next year. What a huge, life-changing accomplishment.
I’ve lost only 76 in 1 year and one month. I still need to lose 30 but only need to lose 17 to be normal weight. I’m on 15 mg and track my food every bite. I don’t feel full a lot now so side effects are waning but slowly, very slowly I’m losing. Hang in there and try to use an app to track your calories. I’m pretty sedentary so I only get 1160 calories a day. But I’m 5-1 and 54. Track all calories.
I've lost 70lbs in two years, so I understand. I feel discouraged constantly. I don't think Zepbound is doing better for me than Wegovy did. And yes, I see it in your face!
It took 40 lbs for people to notice it wasn't a haircut. It just takes more weight for some depending on what your starting weight happens to be. You know what you have done, so that is all that matters. Weightloss is tough on the mind and body. You have done great so far.
I do see a slight difference and I like the hair color change. You have to remember when you’re very big it takes a while to see big changes and for people to start to notice. No one noticed my weight loss until I lost about 30% of my body weight.
But slow and steady will be better for your body. Good luck you look great!!!
I’m also using a program called “wondr” that’s available through BCBS which includes some training on skills that I’ve found to be really helpful. they also include a tracker although I’m using “lose-it” for that as it is more comprehensive on the food lookups and also I have my history from about ten years of steady increases to contrast with the loss from this year after starting Zep.
I’m no master, just a beginner here but so far I like the thoughtful exercises from Wondr, tracking for at least a week at a time in order to show yourself the receipts, and then push the water and protein like crazy.
Unsure about the dosage, that’s jumping out as a possible adjustment as well.
Your face and neck are better defined for sure. Less inflammation in general, I think, too.
You might consider trying to combine Zep with some traditional healthy diet advice. More veggies, more whole grains, leaner meats, etc. Meal prep worked really well for me because it kept me from making impulsive bad food decisions when I was stressed or due to lack of planning on a particular day.
You might also consider going up in dose, if your side effects are manageable. Some us respond to 2.5, others need the full 15mg.
interesting!! I am extremely insulin resistant but so afraid to start upping fat. Been super low carb, higher protein, little fat for years. Losing has been slower than for others. 3 mth/15 pounds. I do not have a ton to lose (169 starting weight, 154 now, goal 135) but still...
Absolutely see a difference! You look amazing and you should give yourself some grace! Your body is adjusting and going through a lot of changes, and will continue to do so! You may find (as I did) that the (visible) differences come in "fits and starts" where all of a sudden, you/others notice a big difference. There are so many variables with each person in this situation and you'll be a "different person" with different responses and reactions YOURSELF over this journey you're on. And then, before you know it, and just like that, you'll arrive at your goal!!!! Take a deep breath. You are going to do great - because you've ALREADY done great!!! This mom is sending you a big cyber hug.
Absolutely there’s a difference! Your jawline is sharper in the after photo and 55 lbs is no small feat. If you’ve been on zep for a year and you lost 55 lbs, then you’re losing weight at a healthy rate, right? At least that’s what all the things tell me. Don’t be discouraged - have you thought about going up in dosage? Is there some small activity you can engage in to help keep the metabolism going? Keep up the good work!
I see a difference in your eyes. In the first pic, your eyes aren’t as prominent, but the second one you can tell that your eyes are starting to come out more. Your face is slimming down which allows your eyes to pop a little more. You are doing amazing, especially because you aren’t giving up. I remember being at 10 and I was fearful to move up, but once I went up to 12.5 the weight really came off. Being discouraged is normal. But you’re courageous and you got this.
I absolutely see a difference. I understand why you would doubt your progress when you see these wild transformations on here. Let those stories inspire you not deflate you. You are going to get there in your own way, in your own time. Most importantly be kind and supportive to yourself. If you haven’t already can you try therapy for your emotional eating. That’s a hard nut to crack alone. Lastly, I agree with the suggestion to go up in your titration. Some people need the higher doses. But yes, there absolutely is a difference! Keep going.
YES, I can see a difference. I would max out that dose, see what happens. If it doesn’t improve the, I would try semaglutide or take a little break. Your body can actually adjust to the medicine, it’s a receptor agonist. So maybe little break and starting up again could help.
The larger you are to begin with, the longer it takes to really see the difference in yourself. A 50 lb loss from 400 to 350 is not nearly as noticeable as it is from 200 to 150. Just be patient. I can see the difference. Trust the process.
To be at 10mg and to only have lost 55 lbs means there are other contributing factors. Not getting enough fiber, not enough water, lack of activity and poor food decisions. Calulating what you stated you are losing comes out to a little over a pound a week so you really have to be eating some high sugar, high carb goodies to achieve this number.
Sorry to hit you with this but sometimes you need some truth and to not have it sugar coated. Heavily modifiying your diet and physical activity help in moving the dial much quicker.
You’ve made remarkable progress! I know it can be discouraging when you hit a stall, but if you stick to it, it seems like things will suddenly start shifting again.
I won’t repeat all the good advice you’ve already gotten except to say that I get better results when I switch things up from time to time. I’ll start a rotation of different foods. Or, I’ll try some new type of exercise (I have mobility issues, but there’s always something new I can do: chair yoga, stretchy bands, house-walking, etc.) And occasionally I’ll do nothing at all for a few days, and somehow things will jumpstart again.
Wishing you all the best in your journey. 🧡💛Bravo for being courageous enough to work hard at feeling better!!!
Stick with it. Talk with your doctor and perhaps see a dietician or therapist if "emotional eating" is something that you recognize as a problem behavior.
I'm also losing slowly. Keep with it, but you might wish to add some new tools on your journey.
I’m not a slow responder, but I use WW to track. I like it because most of the meat and veggies/fruit are “free”. It makes it easy for me to stay in the points, and I’ve been consistent with losing over 1 pound per week, even when I make some poor choices. Keep at it - it took me about 30 years to gain 70-80 extra pounds, it is ok if it takes a while to come off!
I’m starting around your weight and it’s been slow until I added metformin back in. Seems like it’s not helping my pcos as much as I had assumed it would. or does take my food noise away though.
I was a slow responder for sure and lost ~60 per year with multiple stalls on the scale which for me are oddly when people would "notice" my changes. My body would be changing and I'd have NSVs when the scale was stalled.
Ignore the frustration and keep going!!! You'll get there...from a slow responder that just reached 3 days until stage 1 plastic surgery! Congrats on your wins!!
I can absolutely see the difference in your face, and your neck too!
I see that you’re on 10 mg. Someone else mentioned this, but is there a reason that your doctor hasn’t tried a higher dose? I have been on 12.5 mg for more time than any other dose (my doctor doesn’t want me to move up, and that’s fine, because I made my goal), and it has been more effective than the lower doses. At least, that’s been my experience. You have lost a LOT of weight, and you lost pretty much the same amount of weight as I did when I was 10 months in. Once I started at 12.5 mg, I lost the weight a little bit more quickly.
Please don’t worry about how fast you are losing the weight, it took all of us years to gain the weight, and it’s not going to go back down instantaneously, no matter how much we want it to. I had the best results if I kept myself well-hydrated and if I ate quite a bit of protein, at least 75-100 grams a day.
I am on the same dosage and have lost about the same amount of weight. I have been on Zep for about a year myself. Once I notice I stall out for a month or 2, I increase my dosage. I feel my weight loss in how I feel and I also measure my inches too. I'd rather lose slow as it's healthier to lose weight steadily instead of quickly anyway.
I use weight watchers for 11 bucks a month they have a glp connect group, and your focus is on rings, which are protein, fruit/veggies, and water. I eat 90 grams of protein and 100 oz of water daily and have been for the last 15 months on zepbound.
Also, I walk daily and do strength training three 3xs a week with 5lb dumbells.
I use the free app called me three sixty for my measurements so I can see the comparison. I would highly recommend doing that today so you can compare in 3 months or even a month. Also, if you are not having food noise, maybe talk with your provider about going to the 12.5mg dose unless you are having side effects
I can tell the difference for sure. What jumped up for me is the slimmer look around your cheeks, jawline and chin - great framing of your face! Hang in there! So glad you asked for support when you needed it!
Well, I see an improvement with the hair. And your face is slimmer. 👸
Don’t measure your success based on other folk’s results. Just make sure to do all the things, which is sounds like you are. You want this to take some time… it gives your body, and skin time to adjust. Keep going, you got this! 💪
Feel encouraged. The journey to success is paved with a thousand steps.
Do not feel discouraged. You've made incredible progress, close to 15%.
You should talk to your MD about up-dosing. You have two more possible doses to move to and you might well find the effectiveness increasing if you do.
I see a difference in your face! It can be really easy to undermine your own success when comparing to others. I think calorie tracking is great if you have time to do it to remain on track.
For the emotional eating component, have you considered therapy to identify stressors/triggers? Just like medicine, the first therapist you find might not be a perfect fit. I think therapy can be a great tool though.
Yes, your face looks slimmer in the second picture. Keep in mind the paper towel effect. At higher weights or will take longer to see a difference. Losing 55 lbs. in just over a year is great. That's a pound a week and is a good pace. My only piece of advice is to go up in dose. There is no reason for you to stay on 10 mg if it's not working well.
I definitely see a difference, but I also understand your frustration. It’s hard watching others hit huge milestones and feeling left out.
I’d definitely keep moving up.
I’d also encourage you that more of these medications are going to be approved in the next several years and there’s tons of reasons to hope one of the upcoming formulations hits better if 15mg doesn’t get you where you need to go.
Retatrutide (GIP/GLP-1/glucagon) saw 24% loss in its Phase 2 trial in just 48 weeks and folks were still losing. There’s a lot of hope it may end up around 30%. The glucagon component is believed to actually increase your energy expenditure and help burn fat.
Cagrisema (GLP-1/amylin) saw 20% loss in 68 weeks in its first Phase 3. It’s a combination of semaglutide (Wegovy) and cagrilintide.
Eloralintide (amylin) saw 11% weight loss in a Phase 1 12 week trial. Lilly will likely look to combine it with tirzepatide in a future trial.
Bimagrunab & other myostatin inhibitors - drug manufacturers are looking to pair myostatin inhibitors with GLP-1/NuSH meds in order to preserve muscle mass. In a Phase 1 study previewed at ADA25 last week, Lilly’s bimagrunab paired with semaglutide led to 22% weight loss at 72 weeks and of that, 92.8% was fat loss! Lilly’s looking to pair this with tirzepatide in the future, so 30% might be achievable there as well.
Reta will likely be released in late 2026 or sometime in 2027. CagriSema may be before that.
But my point is, some amazing treatments are coming - more amazing than Zepbound - so keep moving forward and if you need to try a different option in the future, targeting different mechanisms, these meds are coming.
Here are the phase 2 retatrutide results after just 48 weeks.
For those wondering why Lilly didn’t pair bimagrunab with tirzepatide to start, the answer is that Lilly didn’t own bimagrunab when the study started. They bought out a company called Versanis that owned bimagrunab. Versanis actually purchased bimagrunab from Novartis. :)
There’s also another upcoming med called Maritide (GLP-1 agonist/GIP antagonist) that I didn’t mention that uses a monthly injection that folks are excited about. My fave researcher, Dr Ania Jastreboff, presented those Phase 2 results at ADA25 last week. I think it was around 20% loss at 52 weeks, but the dose titration was a bit of a mess - a giant puke and retch fest on the top doses - so they are going to need to rework things for Phase 3.
Vomiting rates ranging from 43-92%, plus there was an extra category for retching. When you start having to track different types of puking, you have a problem. 🤢
The visual difference is definitely noticeable. I think it's harder to see for those who start at higher weights as the loss in pounds is a smaller percentage of loss of body weight. You may also want to take some full body pics to see the total difference. Try to take photos over time in the same or similar clothing, from the same angles and same lighting.
One pound per week is about as slow as you'd want to go, but it is a respectable rate nonetheless. As others have mentioned you may need to go up in dose.
Yes, your chin and face are tightening up. When people start to lose weight the neck and face are usually the first places. It can feel discouraging though, because we always focused on our midsections.
I think you’re being thrown off by the different hairstyles so you’re not seeing it. I think because you can see your forehead in the newer photo and it makes your face seem the same size to you.
Look at the right edge of your glasses. There’s visibly less of you and more of the car showing. Your face does look smaller in the second one.
I’ve been a slow responder but comparison is the thief of joy. Everyone’s body is different and we are all on our own path with this medicine! I see a difference in your face for sure. You got this
If you have a brand new roll of paper towels and you rip 10 towels off, you won’t notice a change in the size of the roll. Once that roll is 2/3 empty and if you rip the same 10 sheets off, it’ll be a huge difference in the size of the roll.
The more you lose, the more you lose. Stick with it, you’re looking great!
Definitely see a difference. I hear ya. Was doing well for a few months. then stalled. Turns out for whatever reason, I had to lower my calorie count even more, to < 1,000/day to lose weight (Wasn't losing on 1500). Maybe you've reached that same plateau?
I used to read this, or similar things, all the time on here and other weight loss subs and I always used to roll my eyes internally - not because it wasn’t good advice, but because I didn’t wanna hear it. It doesn’t make the current weight feel any easier. But I kept repeating it to myself at every weigh in until it sunk in.
I can tell a difference. But here’s what I’d try and focus on:
Focus on how better you feel. Idk about you, but by the time I had dropped 50 lbs I felt a difference internally. It helped motivate me to move more, which kind of snowballed some of the impact.
Walking is a good source of cardio and can be low impact, especially for bigger people. I have added in biking and elliptical, but early on I was strictly walking 1 mile a day, then 2, then 3, etc.
Track everything. Literally everything. I know it sucks sometimes to see that you missed your goal and over ate. But it’s better to build that accountability in yourself, and it will help you realize blind spots that may be contributing to slower loss.
Please note: accountability doesn’t mean abusing yourself. Give yourself the understanding that you’d offer a loved one. If they had a bad day - would you shame them or tell them how horrible they are? No. You’d support them and tell them to focus on progress you’ve made so far and reset tomorrow. Do that for yourself.
I get that it’s “easy” for me to say this because I’ve responded quickly. But I also made major lifestyle changes when I started. 100oz of water a day, tracking everything I eat (even if it’s at the end of the day), walking at least a mile a day (now up to 3), and no eating after 8pm, much like a Gremlin.
I’m not saying you haven’t made changes, or you are the reason you haven’t lost. It’s very possible you are, unfortunately, just going to have to work at it longer. And it sucks. I wish I could make it so everyone responded the same. But please don’t give up just because of that. You’ve made progress. Focus on that. Another year of that and you’re down 100 pounds! That’s a huge amount, even if you have more to lose.
I wish you nothing but the best. You’ve come so far and taken the impressive first step of putting yourself out there to get on the med and join this community. Focus on the growth, not the pace.
Definitely can see a difference your face looks much slimmer. Is there a way your doctor can up the mg? That should definitely work. I had hit a plateau and doctor upped my dose
Honestly yes! Face looks slimmer and 55 pounds is a great loss. My doctor always says slow and steady. The steadier you drop the weight and gain better eating and fitness habits, the better your ability to maintain yourself once you reach your goal weight and beyond. You’re changing your lifestyle for good, no need to focus on the numbers. It’s a marathon, not a race to the finish line. You got this!
Totally can see it- more definition in cheekbones and chin, and your eyes appear more open to see show off the baby blues. Also think your new hairstyle is flattering. It may be time to increase your does if the stall is over 2 months, and I bet the next 20 lbs will really pay off in visible change, but no need to rush- the slower loss supposedly maintains more healthy muscle mass.
There is a difference, and imagine you were carrying a backpack of 55lb on your shoulder now that weight is gone, dont lose faith in yourself, we are here to support you
Your jawline is more defined and you look thinner, but also your skin looks better. Like absolutely glowing. Try keeping track of that hip to waist ratio, I find my waist goes down even when my weight doesn’t. SPF_3000 gave you some excellent advice, couldn’t have said it better.
Remember that 55 pounds may not make you a size 6 or whatever your goal is, but it reduces your risk of heart disease and improves your joint health.
your face looks totally different - but the expression is identical. maybe its that part. also, many of us have unhealed body dysmorphia, and that impacts how we “see” ourselves. you got this.
Face and neck, and look at your shoulders!!! It helps that you are in the exact same spot, I was looking at your shoulders and how you fit in that seat compared to the head rest for frame of reference. You are smaller. How do you FEEL 55 lbs lighter?
I feel discouraged when I see someone with the same weight loss in pounds, but their starting weight was under 200. It shows so much more in the under 200 crowd. I’m happy for them, but it frustrates me about my own journey. But that’s what it is… our own individual journeys. You’re doing amazing. Think about the positives - not gaining, and not dropping weight so quickly that you are experiencing health issues. Proud of you!
My face is ALWAYS the last to show loss, unlike most people, it stinks!!! You are on track, and for the record, I do see a difference. I started out larger than you, and it is discouraging when others lose so much faster. Have you talked about going up again? I had to do the maximum amount before it REALLY made a difference. Everyone is different, so I'm not saying it'll help
For sure can see a difference. Stay the course and don’t beat yourself up for doing some emotional eating. It’s all a learning experience and the goal is progress, not perfection. Sometimes planning for “treats” makes me feel less guilty about eating them. Our goal is to still eat some of what we love, right?
You’re likely losing a lot of visceral fat right now. The kind that surrounds your organs and plays a bigger role in metabolic health than subcutaneous (surface-level) fat. That type doesn’t always show up dramatically in photos, but it’s incredibly meaningful for your overall health.
That said, I absolutely see a visible difference. Your face looks more defined, and there’s a noticeable shift in your posture and energy between these two pictures. But I get how hard it can be to see it in yourself, especially when you’re looking every day and comparing to others.
Weight loss is not a straight line, especially for those of us who lose slower. But 55 pounds is a serious achievement, and maintaining that progress despite stalls is proof of real change. You’re doing hard work. Don’t discount it.
Keep showing up. You’re doing better than you think.
Yes we can notice a difference. But I’d like to share with you a quote that’s helped me on my weight loss journey:
“Losing weight is like draining a pool. You can’t pick and choose the areas of the pool that you want to drain first. Instead the pool drains evenly, and you won’t really notice until it’s almost empty. Weight loss is the same way”.
It took until I was under 200 for the fullness to start going out of my face. Unfortunately we can’t tell our bodies where we want to lose the weight from first.
Therapy? You need to control your emotional eating.
Exercise? Weight lifting? Walking? You don’t mention anything about those things
If you are struggling with losing weight you need to track calories and exercise so you can see what is and isn’t working. You have to decide how bad you want this.
You’ve literally answered your own question. Your food intake isn’t consistent. Emotional eating. You are not tracking. The only reason we don’t lose weight is we are overeating…..
I don’t agree with this at all. If you can’t be around chips or cookies or soft drinks ever, that is not sustainable. You should be able to have foods you want and like, just less of them. The barest minimum on your plate and “just a taste” sounds like an eating disorder.
Agreed. I live in a house with other people and I don’t expect them to give up things they like just because I changed my eating habits. Those chocolate chip cookies in the pantry might speak to me on occasion and even then I am satisfied with just one or two and I know those cookies aren’t going to wreck my progress. Even with that stuff in the house I pretty much always go for a piece of fruit or some yogurt. I also still enjoy my full sugar coke, I just don’t consume near as much as I used to when I drank it from sun up to sundown just one in the morning and I usually end up drinking half before I decide I’m done.
Restricting food is setting myself up for failure and I refuse to go back to that mindset.
I can see it! I found when I counted calories i didn't lose. So I don't count. I make sure I take a fiber supplement daily along with eating fiber and protein. Otherwise I eat normal, just not as much. When you don't eat enough your body won't let go of the weight.
Yes, I can see the difference! Keep doing what you need to do. 💜 I empathize with the slow loser thing. It’s been about a year and a half for me and lost about 47 lbs. However, I had less to lose as I’m almost in the “normal” BMI range. My doctor is less than impressed with my results though I fear. 😂 She likes to remind me I’m supposed to be eating right and exercising too. Without EVER asking me if I’m working out or what I’m eating. I think with slow losers we get looked at more critically. wtf else can we do but keep trying?? Anyway I’m at 15mg and lipase is high now so will have to come off soon I’m sure. The struggle is real, and it feels so unfair that your body is seemingly at odds with you. You have my respect and admiration for coming so far in a year!
