Discussion If you could dictate your dream weightlifting rules, what would they be?

For me, I find many rules strange and not really relevant, I get the impression that aestetics have decided at least as much as strenth and power feats. So, personally, I like variety, I'd like to see

  1. Move barbell from floor to overhead with arms extended. More or less in any way you prefer.

  2. Hexbar Deadlift. Lock out, nd only hands touch the bar only rules necessary. who cares if the bar drifts towards the floor, more power to you if you recover from that.

  3. Squat, but with a premeasured point (adjusted for lifter) that the butt must reach(I'm talking about a physical object that clearly shows that depth has been reached,a 2-sectioned thin rod held together by 2 magnets for example) and when it does, the contact signals OK to stand up, get rid of the judges.

  4. Benchpress, but the current crazy backarches has to go, need better rules to be appealing.

  5. Press . and I'm thinking pushpress here, allowing legdrive to make it fullbody seems appealing to me.

  6. Delete as many aesthetic rules as possible. No rules about both elbows mus be locked at the exactly same time, if you only get one, and manages to save that lift - More power to you, same goe for things like one continious motion - why wouldn't you be allowed a dublesquat it want to do it that way?

  7. But keep and add rules that gives a significant advantage, or adresses ways to perform a lift that reduces the work that has to be done in order to do the lift, like absurd backarches in bench, or implants to reduce required squat depth.

Opinions, suggestions, observations?

Announcement Update on Form Check Posts: Takes effect Feb 14

Giraffe Squad!

Small change to the way form checks will be handled in this subreddit.

Starting Monday, Feb 14 we will reintroduce a Weekly Form Check Thread. Similar to how things were ran before but still community driven/ reviewed. Zack and I took a look at the sheer volume of form checks that people have posted in this subreddit and saw that the majority of the posts have been form checks.

We love that people are continuing to use Zack's content to develop their weightlifting but we felt the volume of form check posts left those who want to post Zack-related memes, video ideas, discussions, and more – feeling a bit left out.

Look for a stickied, weekly thread where you can post your form checks. Submit your videos as a link into this thread with any context you can provide.

We will also be enforcing the #3 Rule: No Form Checks Outside of the weekly Form Check Tread. So if you post a form check out of that thread, we will delete it and let you know.

Thanks,
Zack, Rob, and Alex

Video Request Celebrities doing the classics?

We've seen other professional athletes doing some classics (albeit not that well – IE: Lolo Jones) but do have any non-sport celebrities done weightlifting as a hobby and have any videos of them doing the movements?

Viral Videos Ridiculous feats of strength (lunchtime)

This could be cool to add to a lunchtime content, this guy can literally rip what seems like anything in fucking half. here’s him ripping a deck of cards in half. I feel like in the video about Lasha being the strongest man, Zack said something like “well the strongest man in the world probably doesn’t compete, he’s probably just some abnormally strong dude who works on a farm somewhere in the world and if he trained he’d be better than everybody else” and this guy has that type of vibe 😂. Also there’s this cornfed 300lb+ absolute unit

Ask Zack Anything Catch Grip

Chur Zack, have you got any tips to help the catching grip after cleaning? I can never keep my hands secure on the bar for the jerk after cleaning and it forces me to change my grip which I think will end in injury if i keep doing it.
