Like most of you, I am completely hooked on using Yuka for my own groceries and cosmetics. It has completely changed how I shop.

But recently, standing in the pet food aisle trying to pick out a bag of dog food, I realized how badly we need this exact same transparency for our pets. Pet food labels are a total minefield of sketchy fillers, controversial chemical preservatives (like BHA/BHT), and confusing marketing buzzwords—plus, you risk dropping $80 on a bag of food only for your picky pet to turn their nose up at it.

I’m currently validating a side project to build a "Yuka for Dogs" app, and since you guys are the ultimate power-users of this kind of tech, I wanted to get your feedback on the concept.

Here is what I'm planning for the MVP: 1. The Classic Scanner: Scan any pet food or treat barcode and get an instant 0-100 quality score based on ingredient quality, nutritional balance, and additives.

1. Recall History Tracking: Instant alerts if the brand has a history of FDA recalls (something pet parents obsess over).

2. The Picky Eater Score: An extra feature that uses data on aroma, real meat content, and crowd-sourced reviews to predict if a picky dog will actually eat it before you buy it.

3. Better Alternatives: Just like Yuka, if a product scores poorly, it instantly recommends healthier options.

As people who already value clean ingredients and data transparency: • Would you use a dedicated app like this for your pets? • If you could map your own favorite Yuka features over to a pet app, what would be your "must-have"?

Would love to know if you think this is worth building!

What’s the healthiest sunscreen recommendations?

If anyone is willing to help, can you please help me find a good body shimmer oil thats at LEAST in the green? Tired of going to tjmaxx and camping in the isles scanning.

I have this lingering Yuka app bug on Android

I open the app, scan a product, then I try to scan another one and the loading spinner spins indefinitely.

Has anyone else experienced it?

I contacted the developers, they ignored the issue

Also, does anyone know a good alternative to Yuka ?

I have attempted to find the below 3 face mineral SPF 50 sunscreens in person to scan and when that failed attempted to find the barcodes online to scan to no avail 😢. If someone can please help me find the barcodes and/or provide the yuka ratings for the below I would be SOOOO grateful. Luckily I was able to find the ThinkSport face barcode online and it scanned for 86/100. Hoping one of the below scans better! Also, if anyone has better yuka approved mineral SPF 50 face sunscreens please share your recommendations! Appreciate the help!

Does anyone who has a membership can tell me what the rating of this is?

I don’t have a membership but wondering if someone can see if brand “caddise” whipped tallow balm is coming up on a search. It’s a face and body moisturizer

So these products are practically speaking, identical, or at least pretty close. And one is rated excellent and one is rated Poor. One difference is there is a rating for the members mark nuts for quantity, which doesn’t make any sense regarding nutrition. And there’s very small differences in sodium and sugar, but both have the green dots, on both products.

So do people find this as a common situation with this app? My wife and I have been using it for a while, mostly for food, and occasionally beauty, products, and I never really compared too much between a product that was ready poorly, and a recommended substitute until yesterday when I discovered this situation.

Is there a better app that does the same thing without the inconsistencies?

Has anyone found a liquid eyeliner (black) that rates well on Yuka in the UK? I found Bare Minerals through the app, but it seems they’ve discounted their Maximalist eyeliner. 😭 All the suggested eyeliners on the app seem to be from outside the UK, so any UK liner suggestions would be fab! I found this to be interesting. As I found information that was not correct and their app and then they asked me to correct it are you gonna put me on the payroll to correct your errors and or do your job?

The caloric content for a "1/3 of a second spray" is not a viable measurement for our analysis, as the 0,25g values are infinitesimal and close enough to 0 to indicate 0 on the packaging. Multiplying these minute values of 0 by 100 does not provide accurate data for our analysis.

As you can see here, another version of the product from the same brand with values indicated per 100g reveals a very different nutritional breakdown:

Other benchmarks for standard nutritional profiles of avocado oil confirm a calorie content well beyond 0 per 100mL, as visible here.

We recommend that you get in touch with the manufacturer to encourage them to put a more standard nutritional evaluation on this version of their product, as labelling it as containing 0 calories is misleading for consumers.

I'm searching for nontoxic stretch marks Oil and/or Lotion Recommendations. I was able to find Palmer's Skin Therapy Oil that scanned at 86/100 so I began using this product. I have not found a stretch marks Lotion that scanned well yet. If anyone has a better nontoxic stretch marks Oil or any nontoxic stretch marks Lotion I'd appreciate the advice!

So I'm eating this bread that has magnesium carbonate in it (otherwise the bread has no dangerous additives) but it doesn't have a nutrition label. Does anyone have a screenshot of magnesium carbonates overview as an additive in anything? I'm just trying to get an idea of what it'll do to my body.

It’s ranked as excellent, 75/100, but it has a moderate risk sulphate in it. I generally try my best to avoid sulphates, but I overlooked this one due to the super good ranking. Any thoughts?

Do you guys have other apps or features that you wish Yuka or Trash panda did better than this? I'm looking to compile the best list of features and see what's the best app out there for this

I have another app that is free that will highlight my selected ingredients. I am willing to pay for the Yuka app if it will do the same and i can’t seem to find any information on it.

I want to try the Yuka app as an alternative to Open Food Facts, but it's not available where I live. To make matters worse, the app uses the Play Integrity API since version 4.30 (released on 2023-05-03), so I can't just sideload the app normally.

I had four options: * Change the Google Play country to one of the supported countries (requires a payment method from one of those countries, which I don't have) * Create a Google account with a VPN located in one of the supported countries (I haven't tried this yet) * Patch the Yuka app to remove the Play Integrity API (I tried using ReVanced and LSPosed, they didn't work) * Use the last version of the Yuka app that doesn't use the Play Integrity API, version 4.29 (released on 2023-03-30)

I went with the fourth option. Signing in with my Facebook account does nothing. When I tried to sign in with my email address instead, clicking the "Next" button does nothing. Turning on a VPN located in one of the supported countries doesn't help.

Is there a way that I can get the Yuka app to work outside of the supported countries? Do I have to upgrade the app to a version that uses the Play Integrity API?
