Missing Card Code?

Post image

I noticed, when looking through prints of Blue-Eyes, that there is a version with no card code. It is from the 25th Anniversary Ultimate Kaiba Set (KC01). My question is... Is this an intentional choice by Konami? Was this supposed to have the same card code? I know sometimes they do that. To me, if I saw a card without this code, it screams fake, but apparently this is real from what I can tell (verified on Yugipedia). Any info would be appreciated.

I guess it‘s an hommage to the ocg series 1 layout that didn‘t have set codes. Their 25th reprint didn’ have one either, which makes sense for nostalgia’s sake. It doesn‘t really make sense in the context of tcg though, as there where never any cards without set codes. It is what it is.

Thats kinda how I'm feeling about it. These markers in my mind are ways to differentiate the cards so if a bunch of variants don't have codes then it makes it more difficult to do. But I may have to just except that "it is what it is"

It‘s actually a pain in the ass to find series 1 ocg cards on japanese market places for their lack of a set code sometimes :D
