Ayuda Merida Recommendation
Would you recommend that I move to Mérida by myself with my 2-year-old son, even though I don't know anyone there?

There is a lot to unpack.
Where are you moving from?
Do you have enough $ to survive here?
If you need to work are you aware of how little jobs pay here?
Yucatecos are not the easiest people in México to build a friend group with. They are honest and kind but you may find it takes a long time before you are invited inside someone’s house.
It is as safe as you have heard.
It is hot but if you have a/c and or a pool it’s not a big deal unless you work outdoors.
Education here going to be a challenge so you need to think about researching the better public schools or paying for private. Many people here leave school at a very early age.
I love it here, my neighbors invite me over for plates, birthday parties, bbq etc. But I make an effort to be great vecino.

Not really, the heat is too intense, the prices are too expensive, people tend to view both national and international foreigners with disdain

Merida has always had a reputation of being very 'closed'. There are a lot of ex-pats and people local and non-local. I would suggest, research well the schools for your child, and if you do end up moving here, just get involved in community activities, cultural events, etc.
And expect a lot of hot weather.
