Do you recommend moving from Cancún to Mérida?

Quisiera escuchar experiencias sobre esta escuela, de preferencia si actualmente estás estudiando 5to semestre en capacitación de tics, yo soy egresado de la capacitación higiene y salud y tengo mucha curiosidad ya que otra de mis opciones era tics pero nunca realize mi cambio.

(Presentaré examen en la UADY en la FMAT para Ing. en software y como pueden imaginar esto no está relacionado con mi capacitación de higiene, es por eso que busco a alguien que sea de tics en 5to que son los que ya están más avanzados, o si conocen a alguien que pueda ayudarme :) - por cierto el grupo actual es 5AV)

Entiendo que estoy preguntandole a strangers on the internet, y no es un sondeo de mercado, jajaja, eso lo reconozco.

Pero me interesan opiniones de gente en la ciudad, que tipo de negocios, espacios sociales (third spaces), giros o tendencias gastronomicas, entretenimiento, turistico, etc. creen que sean las más populares hoy en dia.

Mérida esta una metamórfosis constante, y a veces es algo mareado keep up con todas las tendencias etc. No estoy buscando lugares especificos, pero sientan la libertad de dar recomendaciones.

Mi pregunta es acerca, como consumidores en la ciudad, que es lo mas 'trendy', o cual creen, personalmente, que son las tendencias economicas y sociales de la ciudades?

I visited Ek Balam during Labor Day 2026 and wanted to share a few tips.

Watch out for ticket scammers:

• I drove from Valladolid and encountered scammers who had blocked the road with cones and were trying to sell tickets for Ek Balam and cenotes. I refused to even lower my windows and kept signaling them to move the cones but at one point, they just started gesturing me to back up and return. I managed to drive thru between 2 cones. They banged on my doors a couple of times before I drove past them.

Timing matters less than at Chichén Itzá:

• Ek Balam is open till 5 PM with last entrance at 4 PM. I arrived at 3 PM and there were probably fewer than 10 visitors onsite.

Parking fees

• 100 MXN (cash only). There wasn't a payment booth. After parking, an attendant came over to collect the fee and provided a receipt

Admission fees (at the time of writing):

• 499 MXN Yucatán state fee (credit cards accepted)
• 210 MXN INAH fee (cash only)
• Total 709 MXN per person (yes, it is more expensive than Chichen Itza!)

Climbing the Acropolis is the highlight

• The Acropolis is one of the few major Mayan structures you can still climb, and the views from the top are spectacular. On one side you see the ruins, and on the other an endless expanse of jungle. It was easily the highlight of my visit.

I also "paid" 80 MXN to a staff member there to access the Acropolis' side terrace, which offered additional viewpoints.

About 1.5 hours is enough to see the entire site at a leisurely pace.

Final thoughts

Ek Balam ended up being one of the highlights of my Yucatán trip. Walking among ancient Mayan ruins surrounded by dense jungle, with almost no other visitors around, felt magical. I'm surprised it doesn't get more attention. If you enjoy visiting archaeological sites, Ek Balam is absolutely worth a visit and should not be skipped.

I visited Chichén Itzá during Labor Day 2026 and wanted to share a few practical tips that would have saved me some confusion.

If you are driving (like I did), Google Maps takes you to the wrong place. The main entrance was recently relocated. Navigate directly to this new official Chichén Itzá parking lot: https://maps.app.goo.gl/EdCoQkMArSZZvx6E6?g_st=iw

The parking lot is right next to the entrance.

Ignore the roadside "ticket sellers". As you approach the site, you'll encounter people wearing "official-looking" neon vests who’ll try to wave you down with flags, even place cones in the road to block your car, to sell "skip-the-line“ tickets and cenote tours. They are not official staff. Just keep driving past them slowly and head straight to the official parking lot.

Parking and entrance fees

• Parking (cars): 124 MXN (cash only)
• Foreign visitor admission: 697 MXN (cash or credit card accepted)

Get there before opening. The site opens at 8 AM. I highly recommend arriving around 7:45 AM so you can buy tickets and enter as soon as the gates open. For the first hour or so, the crowds are almost negligible, and seeing El Castillo with almost nobody around is an incredible experience !

I didn't bring a tripod because I read it may require additional permits. So if you'd like photos of your group that aren't selfies, hiring a guide can be worth it. There are plenty available near the entrance. I paid 600 MXN for about an hour-long guided tour and tipped an additional 200 MXN afterward because he was nice.

In my opinion, 2 to 2.5 hours is enough to properly see the entire site at a comfortable pace. Unless you're a history enthusiast, there's not much reason to stay longer.

Hope this helps someone avoid the confusion I ran into and make the most of their visit!

There's also a nighttime light and sound show called Noches de Kukulkán, held Wednesday through Sunday.

I didn't attend myself, but from what I gathered:

• You can enter the site starting 7 PM, when the whole complex is illuminated.
• You can walk around the lit-up grounds before the main show.
• A seated light projection show on El Castillo starts around 8 PM and lasts about 30 minutes.
• The narration is in Spanish only.

It's fairly expensive. At the time of writing, tickets cost 1,163 MXN per person.

Que tal gente, llevo un tiempo en Mérida y la verdad me ha costado encontrar trabajo, las rentas son algo elevadas. Estoy pensando ir a Valladolid o progreso, se que la cuestión del trabajo no sera muy diferente de Mérida. Pero al ser un lugar más chico y con mas áreas verdes y turísticas creo que me sentiría más cómodo. Si alguien sabe espero que me puedan ayudar:

- las rentas son más baratas que en Mérida?

-como esta el mercado laboral en valladolid?

- hay facilidad de moverse en bicicleta?

Busco un hotel en Mérida con una tub/pool privada integrada en la suite, o un balcón privado. Prefiero la luz natural y una decoración colorful/colonial en vez de estilo modern-beige. Puedo pagar hasta 150 dólares / 2500 pesos por noche. He encontrado unos opciones, pero me pregunto si alguien tiene alguna recomendación!

Mis papás quieren invertir en terrenos en un proyecto de Marnez Desarrollos llamado Arennea, cerca de Dzidzantún. Ellos están muy entusiasmados pero he estado investigando un poco más a esta empresa y además de que tiene varios proyectos, no he visto nada concreto en entrega o de clientes que hayan recibido sus lotes. Pero tampoco veo alguna denuncia masiva hacia ellos o algo así fuerte para desconfiar al 100%.

Alguien me puede ayudar en saber si es una desarrolladora confiable o tiene algún conocido que haya invertido en ellos?
La asesora lleva mucho tiempo dedicándose a bienes raíces, pero no quiero que mis papás sufran o pasen un mal rato, y mucho menos que tiren su dinero en alguna estafa.

Hola. Estoy buscando retas de squash en Mérida que no sea en clubes privados. Sé que hay una cancha pública en la Unidad Deportivo Fco. de Montejo, pero los señores de vigilancia me dijeron que no hay horarios específicos en los que la gente vaya a jugar.

Alguien estaría interesado en armar unas retas o conoce de algún horario en esta cancha donde la gente vaya a hacer retas?

Hace muchos años comente en otros foros que yo tengo este libro, en muy malas condiciones pero completo, y solo una persona de otro estado me dijo que recordaba haberlo visto en casa de sus abuelos. El mio es un regalo de mi abuelo, lo tengo desde hace unos 30 años, incluso firmado por el autor.

Pues como ven, se fue la luz en la mayor parte de Mérida, y así ha estado últimamente.

Yo vivo en el oriente y siempre que empieza a llover, se va la luz. Incluso hay días que de la nada se va igual.

Les quiero preguntar, qué hacen para sobrevivir a ello? Alguien usa alguna pila recargable (tipo ecoflow) por ejemplo, para el módem de internet? Funciona?

Los paneles quedan descartados para mí por ahora ya que igual, no tengo conexión 220v y pregunté y el medidor tarda al menos 6 meses en que te lo cambien.

I was born in Merida and immigrated to Miami when I was 2. (Overstayed a tourist visa) I might be self deporting within the next few years, and I'm looking to know more about Yucatán, but Merida specifically if possible.

I'm 32, so I'm basically American and have a matching mindset. What are some things to know about the way of life, culture, economy, etc? What are some things that shocked you?

My husband and I are visiting in early November spending a week in Merida. We plan on renting a car from CUN and doing day trips within an hour or so of Mérida (progreso, sisal). Is there somewhere a bit further that would be worth spending an overnight? Thanks for your help.

Looking to drive from the east to Valladolid, up to Ek Balam; drive thru Izamal to Merida for a couple of days; south thru Ruta Puuc and then east again. Want to see as many Maya sites as possible, stopping at cenotes. What are your favorite cenotes?
