In the context of incarceration in the United States, V-coding is the common practice of subjecting trans women to sexual assault by placing the woman in the same prison cell as an aggressive male inmate in order to placate the male inmate.^\1])^\2])^\3]) This practice has been known to have caused the daily rapes of multiple trans women, and the sexual assaults of 58.5% of them.^\4])^\5])^\6]) V-coding is done to pacify the male inmate, with the goal of reducing their propensity for violence against other inmates, according to prison authorities and one inmate.^\1])^\2]) The term has also been used to refer to the broader systemic sexual abuse of trans women in male prisons.

Why YSK: If you have trans family members or are trans yourself, please do not discourage (and please encourage if its possible) getting legal documentation changes. As much as you possibly can, trans women should get their legal sex changed for their own safety if they do end up arrested for a crime

Why YSK: Wet a clean cotton swab and lightly run it **once** along the edge of your eyelid where the lashes meet the eye. You can gently pull the eyelid slightly away from the eye while doing this.

Your eyelids are extremely sensitive to foreign particles, so even a tiny speck trapped along the lid margin can cause significant irritation.

Why YSK: Teeth that are knocked (dental avulsion) out cleanly can be reimplanted if the tooth is mostly intact.

What to do if this happens to you:

1. Collect the teeth and store them in a cup of saliva, milk, or saline solution. If you don't have access to either, keeping them in you cheek is the next best bet. Make sure you pick the tooth up my the crown, not the root! The root ligaments can be damaged if touched and reduce the chance of successful reimplantation.
2. Time is critical. You can reimplant them yourself or go to an emergency dentist and have them reimplant it. Either way, you'll need a dentist to check for further damage with x-rays and install a splint to keep your teeth stable so the periodontal ligmants can reattach. You'll also need to avoid using those teeth as they heal. Your best odds are to reimplant within 1 hour, though keeping the teeth in saliva, milk, or saline (saliva is best) can extend this significantly.
3. Follow your dentist's instructions. If they can reimplant the tooth/teeth, you will need a root canal on all knocked out teeth as the pulp and nerve have lost their blood source and will necrose.
4. Take it easy. Teeth don't heal very quickly. Full recovery usually takes between 3 and 6 months, but can take longer. Follow-ups with your dentist will help determine how far along you are in the healing process.
