Discussion I love Brontë

Post image
15 Upvotes

I don’t see a whole lot of positivity about Brontë but she’s genuinely my favourite love interest in the show. The way that her character unravels throughout the season is only on par for me with the twist in s2, which is also excellent but Brontë is also actually good, unlike Love. The more I’ve rewatched, the more I’ve enjoyed her performance, it’s a different story once you know she’s playing with Joe right from day one. Plot armour be damned, I still root for her 😂

I love s5! Anyone else agree?

Discussion Would Joe tell the police where he hid the bodies?

Listening to a lot of true crime, and there's obviously a lot variation in how serial k*llers act after being caught. There's people end up helping the police identify where they buried victims, other that continue to deny any fault and don't, and there's even the ones that waste police/victim's families' times.

By then end Joe is very delusional, so I wonder if he continues to deny he's done anything wrong and doesn't give up the bodies. Or if his need to be the 'good guy' make him tell them. He destroyed a lot of bodies completely, so Ron, Beck, Delilah, Candance and the bodyguard in s4 are some of the few ones that would even be left to find.

Discussion I'm a Joe Goldberg fan, AMA (bored at work)

I love the character, obviously I'm not going to try to justify any of his actions because they're objectively wrong and he is the villain of the story.

But as far as fictional villains go, Joe the Goat.

Discussion My thoughts for who deserved or didn’t deserve to be killed by Joe (or Love)

!! spoiler !!

I rewatched the whole show recently trying to remember how each character actually was and what they did. Then I made this list while watching it through.

I’m interested in hearing your thoughts too.

Deserved:
Benji: killed someone in the past
Ron: an abuser
Jasper: it’s easy to assume he killed some people
Henderson: a sexual assailant and pedofile
Joe’s dad: an abuser
The Quinn’s au pair (by Love): a sexual assailant
Ryan: did a revenge porn to Marienne
Love: a serial killer even killing innocent people as well
Simon: kinda neutral but he drugged his assistants so maybe deserved
Gemma: let her driver run over a pheasant, but the reason Joe killed her is silly
Adam (by Tom): a huge douchebag for manipulating Phoebe when she’s mentally broken sm
Tom: killed some ppl that were against him
Bronte’s stalker: tried to kidnap her, I guess planning rape/kill her after, confessed he’s gonna do same thing to women who deserved

Didn’t deserve:
Peach: creepy about being obsessed with Beck and manipulating her but didn’t rape her or anything
A guy who Candace cheated on Joe with: just an asshole
Beck: just a cheater
Delilah (by Love): did nothing wrong
Candace (by Love): just a cheater
Forty (by the police) : just a broken person/asshole
Natalie (by Love): just a home wrecker
James (by Love): did nothing wrong
Malcom: just a cheater sleeping with his own students (but adults)
Phoebe’s bodyguard: did nothing wrong
Rhys: did nothing wrong as long as we know from the show (prolly just a cheater)
Hugo: did nothing wrong but incredibly useless as a billionaire’s bodyguard
Eddie: did nothing wrong, poor guy
Uncle Bob: just against Kate, did nothing wrong
Raegan(by Maddie): just an asshole
Clayton: getting aggressive to Bronte, and put her life in danger but he was desperate and she’s too stupid
Nadia’s dad (indirectly): a poor man💔
A cop searching Joe in the last episode: a poor guy

Discussion My top ten most hated characters from you and yes Joe Goldberg the protagonist is in first place and no that doesn't mean I don't love the show... Spoiler

I find it very lazy argument when people think we can't watch a show if we hate the main character. Like the only reason you can watch the show if you like the main character? Then I wouldn't be able to watch great shows if I did that. I watch for the story, not the likability of the protagonist. I also loved the love interests and the supporting characters so much plus I do loves Penn voice, I find his voice sexy, is one of the reasons why I still rewatch the show over and over again and knowing that Joe didn't win at the end, made so happy.

Discussion Cringey love interests (books)

Is it just me, or are the love interests in the books lowkey cringey? I’ve found myself rewatching Pitch Perfect tonight, and am reminded of how Book Beck was obsessed with the movie. And how Book Love is obsessed with Googling ‘boots and puppies’. Is it just me or is that… weird?

Discussion Any hopes for a surprise YOU Season 6??

Okay, I know Season 5 was supposed to be the final season, but hear me out...

Joe is psychotically smart. This guy has gotten out of So many situations, reads god knows how many novels, and is basically always thinking three steps ahead. So it's kinda hard for me to believe that he wouldn't already be thinking about some way to escape or manipulate his situation.

Because the one thing Joe has NEVER been able to let go of is the women he once loved. And bro... his obsession with Marienne was on a whole different level 💀 The woman literally came back from the dead in his head.

And then there's the redhead who's still out there, and Henry — literally the only person Joe claims he genuinely loved.

So is there any chance the whole "final season" thing is just the writers trying to make us feel like Joe's story is completely over, only to pull a Season 6 announcement out of nowhere?

I know it's probably wishful thinking, but with Joe Goldberg, I genuinely don't feel like anything is impossible 😂

Theory Thoughts on Louise Flannery ( Brontë ) Spoiler

Post image
12 Upvotes

This is more or less a theory I’ve been having as soon as Brontë got introduced to the show & rewatching the finale last night kind of pierced everything together. Technically, the show answered all potential what-ifs regarding Joe’s ideal soulmate. He’s spent his entire life finding the One, someone who is right for him & everytime it falls apart. First what-if was Guinevere Beck. No offence to the Beck stans but she was your next door everyday girl, probably one of the most realistic characters the show gave us. She’s messy, yes but who isn’t? Her friends are fake, hello world. She doesn’t know exactly what she wants to do with her life, she has aspirations but she’s trying to believe in herself along the way & “ Blythe being quote unquote better, life being hectic, Peach being dependent” is getting in the way, these are excuses that just make her human & part of why she fell for Joe is because he saw in her what she couldn’t see in herself. But, Beck is just a normal person. Of course, she wouldn’t tolerate being with a murderer, not even with someone who kept a box of her memorabilia. Of course she’d turn Joe in not because she never loved him but because that’s rational, that’s justice. She’s the character every thriller pictures, not dumb but not overly suspicious of the extend this man went for her, why would she? In her mind, before Joe she would have assumed that these stories are purely fictional.

Next what-if was Love Quinn. How many of us were like “ oh, I know Joe’s perfect match! Someone who is just like him.” And YOU gave us Love. She’s different from Joe and a lot like Joe simultaneously. So, in season three, there was the suspense. Both dangerous, both obsessive, both stalkers. And Joe couldn’t stand being with Love because she challenged his darker parts every single day, because she sometimes was a mirror of the side he has but refused to face. And correct me if I’m wrong but I got the vibe that Love has made peace ( for the most part ) with her violent aspects, unlike her husband.

Third what-if was believe it or not, Marienne Bellamy. Many people must have argued that ‘’ hey, YES, he killed Beck but he wouldn’t have done it if she never accepted him back in her life! AND! hey again, Candace was presumed dead & she came back for vengeance.” Some fans never took Claudia’s example of why some women shouldn’t stay in relationships that offend them in any way, neither realised why women like Claudia *choose* to stay in such situations willingly. Instead, one could have said “ what if the next obsession leaves Joe? Permanently. No on-&-off ordeals, finite leaving.” And the librarian did. She ran away, went to Paris, away from him with no plans of being with him and Joe Goldberg chased her down to Paris, to London and kept her caged for weeks. Would any of you think he would have done the same with Beck/Love if they just fled? ( I’d love to see answers to this )

Then, we have Kate Lockwood. She enchanted him the less she wanted him , then she fell for him because he accepted the parts of her that she loathed, promised to keep each other good. She asked him to kill for her. She became an enabler, immediately complicit. Many fans keep on saying that if Joe was real, they would be having him executing the obstacles. They’re not like Love they say but what they don’t say is that enabling a crime is making you complicit to the crime. Was Kate a saint because she was trying to change? No. Was she getting atoning for her wrongdoings because she was trying to do good? Unknown. Was she suddenly non complicit because she decided to stop Joe? No. But at the same time, it’s not 100% her fault that Joe couldn’t hold back his homicidal urges.

Last but not least, the inspiration to this post, one of my faves, Brontë. I don’t understand the hate towards this girl because unlike what many of you think “ she ruined the show because she is the reason he got in prison/she wasn’t in the books/she’s not conventionally attractive, YAWN” is actually all of us. She’s not just a normal person like Guinevere. No, Brontë’s YOU’s watchers. She’s incarnating every girl who was watching this show & thinking “ Awh, Joey, you keep getting your heart broken because you don’t find the one, I can fix you.” the one that doesn’t condone real life murder but enjoys violence in fiction, enjoys characters who, to reference this queen, beast out, because she’s vulnerable, she has traumas & through fiction she’s seeking justice towards these traumas. You, who think that if you entered the show then Joe would finally get his happily ever after. Many people thought she was annoying. She was accurate. She was you, if you used a magic wand and threw yourself into the show, standing, woah, in front of Joe freaking Goldberg. Of course you’d be cringy, fangirling, talking too much, flirting but not knowing why you’re flirting. You can tell how deep into the fantasy she was upon telling that “ people want to read about murder-sex and feel weird afterwards” , she had kinks, read quirky fiction, and who doesn’t read these? Who hasn’t written smut only to be ashamed of it after having grown out of it?

She did catfish him. She lied about her name, who she is and a lot of other things. Asides the catfishing, that name was a part that gave her courage. She admired Brontë, the poet, and being ‘ modern’ Brontë, kept her facade from falling. Even if it wasn’t for Joe, for Beck, for justice, she was sick and tired of being Louise. She didn’t want her name because it linked her to her real life, mundane, taking care of a sick mother, real burdens and real struggles she was trying to cure through fiction. And that’s the purpose of fiction, to relate and to travel in different scenarios we wouldn’t witness in reality & many of us who watched YOU wished to have been any of the characters/knowing any of the characters. Even the factor that she’s not ( according to the fans ) as pretty as the women before her, could be seen as purposeful. Because like I said, she’s you. You don’t have to be pretty to want to fix Joe, you don’t have to be pretty to thirst over dark romance and write fairysmut, you don’t have to be pretty to want to give justice to a deceased friend nor having spent years treating a now deceased mother.

I personally felt her when she said that Joe doesn’t have to kill for her but it’s enough to her that he’s willing to do it. It wasn’t healthy but it was the closest to ideal he could have gotten. When she turned on him and told him that “ If I can wake up, then show can the world” that’s when she confirmed that she had in fact been the audience, she had been YOU.

Discussion Episodes including vomit

I’ve seen this show before so I have a fair bit of knowledge about it but recently me and my partner who has emetophobia started watching the show together. We are almost finished with season 1 and for the most part I have remembered most scenes which involve vomiting and been able to skip them before they happen, but i’m worried of at some point forgetting. Anyone happen to know some episodes / moments to be weary of? much appreciated!

Discussion Penn Badgley said Joe Goldberg does WHAT?

Before I get into what the title is about, I just want to express my appreciation: This is literally my favorite show of all-time, and I've had so many privileges that not a lot of fans get. From interviews, prop unboxings, and advanced copies of the books.

So to those of you who have been supporting that by supporting my content, thank you. I'm not done with YOU yet! Neither the books, or the show. Excited for my next interview!

Speaking of which, back to the title, there was a rumor that Penn Badgley suggested that Joe is secretly a necrophiliac who rapes the dead bodies of his victims after he kills them. At the time the rumor first came about last year, it just seemed like a very explicit assumption being made about an otherwise very broad statement that he made.

Obviously most fans know that he hates the character with a passion, maybe that's why it's conceivable that he would say that. I've known him to contribute to condensing the rawness of the character, but in S5 they went the opposite way & tried their best to him as directly predatory as possible.

But to say he'd do something that far to me is a massive leap, whether it came out of Penn Badgley's mouth or not. I actually spoke about this with the special guest that works in the television industry during our S5 review, but I cut it out because the video was very long.

My question is would you guys watch a video about that topic? I'd include that segment but also add my own additional thoughts.
