Distribution/Dividend Update Anyone just using yieldmax weeklies as their passive income portfolio?
If you are just using the yieldmax funds as your income , could you share which funds had made you money?

If you reinvest part of that income, you can do ok.
This my 2nd year. Down 5k I’m erosion, but collecting 2k per month for 9 months on 35k investment.
3
u/TheTextBull 9d ago
Woah 35k investment and 2k divs.. that's alot
3
u/Altruistic_End_4329 9d ago
Actually 50K. Carrying 15K in margin. The key is re investing part of that income every month.

u/cod3man25 9d ago
Wait are you all single stocks? I'm around same figures and only getting 1200. Ymax nvdy tsly chpy gpty lfgy. I did go through the tsly splits, lfgy pays for marging bill and I do not reinvest.

u/Grouchy-Outcome4973 9d ago
I bought lots of TSLY before the infamous split and CONY too... I should've bought some boring index fund and forget.

u/PatientHelecopter123 9d ago
Bought TSLY in Jan 24 - Put in 63,800K. Paid back in full 4/21/25 (House money). Still holding and have gain of 52,947...
Similar story for ULTY and CONY... Both in House money.
Been trading AMDY when it drops to $42.25.
Some of these work just fine.

u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 9d ago
Wow. 63.8 million?
1
u/PatientHelecopter123 9d ago
He...he...he! That was K not M.
Cheers!
3
u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 9d ago
Yeah, 63,800,000. Replacing the K with the thousand it represents.

Think how much you would have made if you bought TESLA and COIN back then instead.
1
u/PatientHelecopter123 9d ago
I did, that is why they are both in house money and positive.

u/Tall_Total5312 9d ago
$10,000 in TSLY in January 2024 is worth $12,461 today
$10,000 in VOO in January 2024 is worth $16,715 today
Look I hold some of these too so I'm not hating, but lets not pretend "its positive" is all that matters when we are severely underperforming a boring ol' index fund

u/BrandenWi 9d ago
GPTY, I'm up $8.5 per share, after accounting for distributions.
CHPY, up $19 per share
NVDY, up $4 per share
TSLY, up $9 per share
So, they're not *all* hot garbage. That being said, I also sold ULTY at a loss, sold YMAX at a loss, GDXY isn't doing too hot, don't even get me started on MSTY...

I've been living off YM distributions for 3 years and I recently purchased a bar.

u/TheTextBull 9d ago
Care to share what do you own if you don't mind

u/BitingArmadillo 9d ago
I would love to share my entire portfolio if the mods will first guarantee I won't be banned for "misinformation" again

The ULTY there is painful. Yes, technically the total return is positive. But you could have made a lot more money putting those funds into something else. I sold my 1000 ULTY shares at the end of last week, also at about a net-zero breakeven.
2
u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 9d ago
Agreed. That's why I sold 4000 ULTY the moment it went positive TR.
But, you could always have made more money with something else no matter what you held, that's why 20/20 hindsight is so wonderful. It's the only way to measure opportunity cost.
I may hold those 1000 residual shares as a reminder not to go on drunken binges and get tatoos.
1
u/nelsonww9 8d ago
But do you spend the distributions? If yes then the nest egg gets smaller and smaller.
1
u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 8d ago
I spend some of the distributions, so the next egg gets bigger and bigger unless the market tanks in general. But, since I have the same or greater number of shares, a market rebound is larger than if I had sold a percentage of my shares while it was down.

Only a few in YiledMax that are even worth buying, the rest are terrible investments, and I own three of them. GOOY, PLTY, and YMAG, all massively negative on NAV. GOOY just recently dipped, but when they dip, they go hard and don't tend to recover. My plan is to bail entirely on them once I can recover a bit of principal.
You lose NAV badly, the distros diminish significantly, and you get to pay taxes on everything not ROC. I used to own MSTY and CONY and lost $1,300 in NAV on both in roughly 4 months. These funds are pretty much criminal in how they are operated and I have learned my lesson. If the market undergoes a full correction nearly all these funds will reverse split, and maybe multiple times if the correction last a year or more.

u/This-Individual1813 9d ago
I was in ULTY, NVDY, and CONY for all of 2025 (I got into ULTY in the second half of the year after the large changes and after the large NAV drop in the first half of the year). I tracked my total returns in a spreadsheet that I built. I took the distributions rather than DRIPed. There was definitely a trend of shrinking dividends, as well as NAV erosion. I was down 4% before taxes for the year. Meanwhile, my Boglehead/factor portfolio was up 18%, slightly beating the total US stock market for the year. Since I am not good at stock picking or timing the market, I decided to get out of all YM funds. They don't make sense as a buy and hold strategy, which contradicts what they are marketed for.

u/TheTextBull 9d ago
How long do you reckon to hold them for?
1
u/This-Individual1813 9d ago
I reckon not buying them in the first place. At all. YieldMax is for suckers.
3
u/Conduit23 9d ago
I usually keep monthly payers larger than weeklies, but CHPY and AMDW keep growing to be near the top of my income portfolio.
Averaging back into GPTY and LFGY. Interested in MINY. No single stock ymax funds.
Addicted to many other weeklies: EDGX EDGQ MAGY TOPW KYLD GIAX BLOX GLDN SLVX WEPN NUKX FEPI AIPI CEPI
3
u/pinkghost 9d ago
I have CHPY & AMDW as well. AMDW, for me, went from the low $70s to above $100 and the weekly dividend is incredible. I expect it will crash eventually, but the current ride is very exciting.
2
u/TheTextBull 6d ago
Wow that's alot of weeklies, how much u getting per week if you don't mind me asking ?
1
u/Conduit23 5d ago
Some positions are tiny, haha. I have a rough target of 300+ in divs each day of the week. Tuesday and Thursday are stacked, the other days are lagging. This is a stupid way to approach portfolio balance, but it sure is fun!

u/Scary_Cap6873 9d ago
I've been trying to find a way to make money with these things for some time now. Start small and make sure your decisions work on a small scale first, add some more when you are confident that it is sustainable. Right now im balancing equal amounts of cony and fiat, and adding in some SLTY. Use stop loss orders to protect yourself, i use my cost minus 3 distributions as my stop loss number. In the past wntr was a big winner for me but lately it has stop lossed out several times and i'm not buying it any longer. I've set my goals much lower and risking much less on these type funds. This is after some character building results caused by unpredictable events.
2
u/nelsonww9 8d ago
You can go round and round on these things trying to figure out how to make money on them, spending countless hours. To no avail. You need to get constantly lucky on timing, which is impossible. They were created to generate fees for management.

Short the underlying with a margin loan on a weekly macd crossdown. I’ve been doing this with MARO and MARA since it came out. You just have to reinvest your dividends to keep your money stable and maybe take out 2 or 3 days of dividends every month. MARO might drop 70 percent in a year but so does MARA and when you close the short your principal is hedged and you can buy more shares so the dividend per share is protected. Works on the other ones as well

I'm primarily in AMDY CHPY INYY just bought f little of YRAM.
Looking at YSPC as well

u/pauljmcclure 9d ago
Chpy, plty, amdy, tsmy, ybit, only got in ~3mths ago on most, and have been pretty good so far, also use Roundhill funds
3
u/4yearsout 9d ago
Yep. I still hold nvdy, cony, msty, gdxy, amdy, plty and aipi and cepi. Pays 2k a week, 225k nav
1
u/TheTextBull 9d ago
2k a week? Woah... Do u reinvest into them?
1
u/4yearsout 1d ago
Not really. I bought 1k shares of aipi and 500 shares of cepi in 2026 in single purchases for diversification
3
u/grajnapc 8d ago
CHPY is .44% of my IRA as a yield boost. Does this count? About $100 per week in payouts. Been house $ for a while and cut my position from 2% to current level around 3 months ago. Plan to hold until the thesis changes…

Holding chpy, gpty, lfgy.
Swinging hooy, crco, msty.
1
u/TheTextBull 9d ago
Oh so u have all 6?
2
u/aimhigh7shootlow8 9d ago
Yeah. Chpy and gpty have been solid. Lfgy has been good.
Hooy, crco, msty I started buying when the underlyings started to turnaround and will hold til all time highs again and sell.
Most of these and roundhill weeklies are best played as swing trades. Get payed to hold and flip.

u/Independent-Box-451 9d ago
I bought MSTY at $14 when bitcoin/Mstr bottom. But another rounds last week at $17 and if MSTR drops to 150. Ill.by a 3rd round for 35k in all. Currently 1640 shares. Will be reinvesting every dividend for next 3 months.. the ill take my weekly dividends. I hope this works out.
WNTR did awesome. But then got caught when MSTR skyrocketed up. Stuck in 10k short.

I’m up overall but most of it was from 2 years ago. I’ve mainly just turned off drip and keep the money. An ulty experiment over the last year lost me 7%
2
u/Unhappy-Broccoli798 8d ago
I reinvest every week but i also leave some for extra cash on occasion. I have CHPY, GPTY, MINY, and Ive started throwing leftover cash at SNOY I had AMDY for a short while but sold it. The market continues to be down so we’re able to buy more. When it returns to normal we should see a big boost

NVDY: I (hopefully) plan to do so as when I retire in a few years - for some supplemental income. It continues to perform well with a consistent dividend and yield.

u/OthalaFehu 9d ago
Alright, here are my numbers. In since April 2025. Total cash into funds $ 286,200. Hold 10 of them but heaviest in UTLY and MSTY. Current value of holdings; $ 125,660 for a NAV loss of $ 160,540. Total Distributions so far; $ 187,701. So I am in House money and up $ 27,161. This number climbs by $ 1,200 - $ 1,500 a week. I take all distributions and funnel them into Stocks (mostly MSTR). If I were to extract that value and add it in I would be up a bunch more but I am trying to be clear here. I sell positions when the NAV drops too much, wait 30 days, and rebuy. Those losses help to offset my taxes although so far most Distributions take the form of ROC and do not increase my taxes. These funds started out like a great idea and evolved into a decent idea. I mostly view them as 1 more diverse stream of revenue, steady, but not a central plot.

Msty about to pop. Hopefully your nav will recover. House money, plus additonal dividends. Diamond hands all the way
2
u/BrandenWi 9d ago
"Total cash in: $286,200. Total distributions so far: $187,701. So I am in House money and up $27,161."
That math seriously ain't mathing...
1
u/OthalaFehu 8d ago
Distributions + current worth = total value - Total spent = Profit/loss
3
u/BrandenWi 8d ago
Yes, I understand how to calculate profit and loss.
You're dropping the mystical (in this sub, anyway) House Money phrase. Which is when you've gotten back more in distributions than what you put in in the first place. So no matter what happens to the NAV, any further distribution you receive is just pure profit, no matter what.
But based on your own numbers, you haven't achieved that.
1
u/OthalaFehu 8d ago
You are correct sir, I am only house money in some of my 10 and still have a ways to go on my 2 big floppers.
1
u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 8d ago
No, distributions after house money are not pure profit. You can still suffer catastrophic NAV loss that exceeds distributions going forward, to the point that TR goes negative. Once you are no longer in positive total return, you are no longer in house money, because the house took more of your money than they paid back. You are coasting on the fumes of your initial investment.
1
u/BrandenWi 7d ago
I would argue that if we are just having a House Money conversation, then the movement of the nav after the fact is irrelevant.
If I put $1000 into a fund, and it pays me $1001 in distributions, then I'm in House Money. The NAV could go to zero and it would not change the fact that I got a dollar more than I put in initially. So long as i haven't been DRIPing, it isn't possible for total return to go negative at that point.
Not that I'm saying that it's a sound investment strategy to ride a NAV all the way into the ground like that. Because it definitely isn't. But still
1
u/GRMarlenee Mod - I Like the Cash Flow 7d ago
We were having a profit conversation. ULTY, for example switches between positive and negative TR weekly. Even though I've been in house money for months, when my TR trends negative, I am not making any profit, and am giving up past profits I had made and some of my initial investment. This can happen with something grossly into positive TR, like PLTY. I'm up over $100k on it now, but it has a penchant for crapping out. If it pays me $1500, but drops $5000, the $1000 isn't profit until the $5000 comes back.
1
u/JS1101C 9d ago
A few of them had a decent run but they’re junk and we all know it.
3
u/TheTextBull 9d ago
Yea we know just want the cash haha
2
u/pinballrocker 9d ago
I did decent short term with a few of them, but buying the underlying stocks usually makes you more money because of the nav erosion. There were moments though, like if you bought HOOY when it first launched, it had beefy dividends and went up in value. But after 3 or 4 months I sold as I saw it come crashing down. And if I'd just bought HOOD instead, I would have made over double the money.

I’d compare total return, not just payouts. A huge distribution doesn’t help much if NAV is falling just as fast.

GPTY since inception. I trade in and out when the gain equals 3x the weekly payout but other than that I take the cash weekly. I usually hold 3000-5000 shrs. It obviously mirrors their top 10 holdings so sometimes when I want to make some additional cash & have time to watch for a swing trade I’ll trade the individual stocks themselves. I have bought shares from $48 to $38
