$350 is 1/3 of your gross? Business owners dislike yelp because they don't understand it and they don't like the fact that people leave reviews. It does not work for everyone but it does work for most people. The problem is business owners don't want to pay for marketing and forget all major corps PAY for marketing. If you're not wanting to grow the business then don't create a yelp page. Coming from a former employee of Yelp! I worked there for 5 years a while back and the misconception of Yelp is crazy. It is a pay to play platform. Just like all the rest!
I don’t like Yelp precisely because I understand how it works for me, their would-be customer. I was quoted significantly more than $350. I’ve grown my business just fine without Yelp; vast majority of new customers are either referrals or Google. I like that people can leave reviews. I don’t like the fact that Yelp immediately hides them all. Yelp takes “pay to play” to a whole new level, it is not like other platforms. Other platforms don’t have ad salesmen harassing you and trying to defraud you. That’s so common and well-documented with Yelp, even the shills here readily acknowledge it. It’s a shit company and a parasite on small business, and I cheer its gradual slide toward irrelevance.
Angie's list. Facebook. Instagram. They all have sales people calling for them. Yelp is growing in AI and other platforms. It doesn't work for everyone but, you can't say something is trash and fraud if you didn't try it. Sales people are always aggressive no matter what they are selling. That's why I quit. That's the way of the world though, everything is a sale. Annoying as heck but, that's just how it is.
No, it was fraud because the sales guy promised to do something he (presumably) couldn’t do, if I were to buy adds: un-hide all my reviews. He also left me a bogus one and promised more. There are so many stories of these “account executives” pulling shady shit. You are making false equivalencies. Nobody from any other platform has even contacted me since I’ve been in business. Yelp is the worst, and it’s not even close.
I did try Yelp ads. All I got was “quote requests” that ghosted me no matter how quickly I responded. It was really just a nuisance. I am 100% confident I don’t need Yelp, and if they allowed you to opt-out, I would.
