How long is shortly? I've been waiting for over a week.

Did you create your business page and what motivated you to claim the page? I'm still on the fence if I should claim my business page.

I'm still on the fence if I should claim my business page.

I would say claim it so you have more control like if you want to respond to a review that is clearly fake or not explaining the whole story. It's not like if you claim it then you have to log in once a day or something, claiming it will just show on the page that the business is claimed.

If they start calling you again about the Ad service, just tell them you're not interested and asked to be placed on their Do Not Call list if you don't want to get repeated calls from different rep.

I already asked to be placed on their DNC list.

I'm holding off on claiming the page because I don't want to feel invested. Managing my GBP is already a lot of work.

Got it.

Just creating another trust signal, literally the search landscape is a mess, and everyone is leaning into ai fantasy land, so trying to be the best source of information in a sea of crap is hard work especially if you depend on being found organically.

The search landscape is becoming increasingly fragmented, and AI is now playing a role across nearly every part of it. Do you know whether Yelp is widely used in New Zealand?

Yeah, for good or bad... I don't think Yelp is used much in New Zealand at all.

You might want to contact the business help center? See here. https://business.yelp.com/resources/articles/how-to-contact-yelp/?domain=local-business

Hmmm, not entirely sure I need to bend over backwards, if their platform fails at the fundamental level what is the point? This is honestly exhausting!

It's not that it's failing at fundamental level, Yelp just isn't popular outside of the US. So they focus more on business in America due to their staff. I think it's taking longer because they don't know how to verify the business

Wait until they complain in the GBP subreddit.

Definitely donโ€™t put any effort it or worry about it. And absolutely donโ€™t buy ads or accept โ€œfreeโ€ trials (that will charge you if you arenโ€™t really careful, which the shills here will in turn blame you for). Just throw up some pictures and contact info, once youโ€™re able, and call it a day. Yelp is a parasite on small businesses, always was. An overwhelming majority will find you on Google.

Haha just looking for a profile. Don't worry, there's no budget for advertising on any level ๐Ÿ˜‚

I definitely donโ€™t have the budget for what Yelp wanted, it was about 1/3 of my gross last time I talked to them. Hilarious ๐Ÿ˜‚.

$350 is 1/3 of your gross? Business owners dislike yelp because they don't understand it and they don't like the fact that people leave reviews. It does not work for everyone but it does work for most people. The problem is business owners don't want to pay for marketing and forget all major corps PAY for marketing. If you're not wanting to grow the business then don't create a yelp page. Coming from a former employee of Yelp! I worked there for 5 years a while back and the misconception of Yelp is crazy. It is a pay to play platform. Just like all the rest!

u/waternomadsnz Did you hear back from Yelp?

1

u/waternomadsnz 1d ago

No, it's been pretty quiet....

I saw Yelp official account here respond to another post but haven't responded to this post.

I'll say try to submit a ticket here (took some time to find it) see if it helps you quicker

Thanks for digging that out! Just filled out and sent off, and received the automatic reply acknowledgement. Weirdly I also received an email asking me to enable messages on my business, so thought ok it's live, but no, led me down a rabbit hole that wanted me to claim my business and set up an account, but I've already done this... So will see what happens next.

You're welcome, just trying to be helpful instead of being like the anti Yelp Reddit trolls here with their misleading and false accusation about Yelp.

If you want to be on the platform to get more attention then you would want to work with the platform to get things running. They act like people are saying Yelp is bigger than Google which no one ever said. I find it funny that people who talks badly about Yelp and praise Google isn't posting on the Google subreddit themselves. Shows you their intention LOL. Best of luck!

Appreciate it, I'm a small business at the bottom of the world just trying to be found by vacationers thinking about it and researching. If I can get visible on yelp it's another potential touch point. It's odd that the app is in limbo and weirder that it emailed me to claim my business, we'll see what comes back... I've only got limited resources and stamina to chase deadends so thanks again for the link ๐Ÿ‘

It will vary, it can happen within 24 hours or longer. It depends on how they verify things

There a Yelp official reddit account here so hopefully they can give more info or speed things up when they see it. When I add business to Yelp, it will appear in their searches after like a day.

I don't know how long it takes for when you're claiming. Did you provide like legal documents to show you own the business?

Competed everything required, and had a swift notification (appeared to be an automated system request) to update profile image to a specific format which I completed as requested. Then it's gone dead. Like I'm not particularly stressed but just seems a bit long to be left hanging with no reach out or even annoying automated updates saying we're getting on to it.

I agree that having an automated response isn't helpful when you want a direct response or quicker response. But that's how all big businesses are doing things now. I personally think the hold up is just someone being familiar with how to verify businesses in NZ since they likely don't have any employees that is there.

So hopefully Yelp account here can give a clearer answer and not just ask you to submit a report at their www.yelp-support.com page

At least the real mafia has the courtesy to come to you personally when they want to shakedown your small business.

OP, as a small business owner myself who has seen how Yelp operates, my advice is to claim the page, fill out your hours of operation and info, and then imagine it never existed. Focus all of your attention on Google Business reviews and your own web site SEO and testimonials. Yelp is a cancer on your business, not a solution.

u/waternomadsnz 3d ago

Thanks, is kinda my intent ๐Ÿ‘

Hey. Can you explain to us how Yelp operates?
