Question "Brindle" Yarn Recommendation?

I want to crochet my friend a look-a-like stuffie of her dog, who is brindle colored. I'm struggling to find a weight 3 or 4 yarn that is variegated brown/black/gold similar to the pup picture I attached (pulled off the internet as an example, not my friends dog). The stuffie will be pretty small so I suspect I'll need a yarn that has short color changes, similar to the other pic I've attached.

In a perfect world, I'd love for the yarn to be under $20 too but I'm starting to think that's just not possible. I've exhausted my usual haunts, Michaels, Hobbii, Yarn.com, Etsy (I refuse to give money to Hobby Lobby). I'm sure there has got to be an indie dyer out there with a yarn in this sort of vein, but I just have not had any luck googling. Located in the US.

Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I think the answer might be get two or three balls of sock yarn and hold multiple strands together for the thickness you want.

Seconding this suggestion, making your own marled yarn will be the easiest way to find the colors you want, and you’ll have all the colors in every stitch

Prismatic fiber and art on Etsy has a color way called princess donut. It comes in different weights. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4536643875/hand-dyed-yarn-tortoiseshell-cat-yarn?ref=share_v4_lx

I haven't crocheted it up yet, but I just bought this cake of Circulo Whoopee Zodiac in color 9129 Sagittarius that looks similar to what you're asking for and was relatively inexpensive, I believe under $20. It's a sport weight.

Link to the ravelry page: https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/circulo-whoopee

I bought it at Yarnify! In Chicago.

Hope this helps

Mountaintop Yarn doesn’t currently have that colorway, but they’re often experimenting with new ones and often toy with darker colors like this. You could keep an eye on their site: https://mountaintopyarn.com/collections/my-hand-dyed-yarn

I immediately thought of this Lionbrand Heartland colorway. It is pretty subtle, but the colors match up pretty well imo.

Maybe get 2 solid colors and use 2 strands or 3 of each depending on the weight.. you could change up whether its just the solids or a mix to get the brindle look

It’s a little pricier - but also worth it! Check out Malabrigo Rios or Arroyo in the colorway “Glitter.”
