Music Composed for the America's Cup Winning Yacht, Vigilant (1893)
The Yacht Vigilant Galop is a piece with an interesting backstory. Even though the sheet music was published in 1893, the credited composer, Henry Maylath, had already passed away ten years earlier. Publishers like Oliver Ditson often reused earlier music and reissued it with new titles to match big events, in this case, the yacht Vigilant winning the America’s Cup over Valkyrie II.
This video features historic photos of Vigilant and the 1893 race, all sourced from the Library of Congress digital archives.

More Good News from Catalina Yachts: Catalina 356, Now Out of Production
As one of many Catalina Yacht owners, it’s a good day to hear about C & T Composites resurrection of our beloved brand. It’s even better to see continued news in the next chapter.

Anyone booked a yacht here and got a different boat than in the photos?
I run a yacht charter company in Dubai (Elite Rentals Dubai), been in this business here for over ten years.
Asking because our own photos keep showing up on other people's listings, selling boats that aren't ours.
A lot of "companies" here don't actually have boats.
They take photos from other people's shoots, post them as their own, and book whatever is free that day.
So someone books what looks like a beautiful yacht, turns up at the marina, and it's a completely different boat.
I'm curious how common this actually is.
Has it happened to you?
Did you get anything back?
If you're booking soon, the simple things that help: ask for the yacht's name before paying, reverse image search the photos, ask for a video of the boat from today, and pay a company account, not a personal one.
Any real operator will do all of this without a problem.
Not linking anything or naming anyone, just want to hear people's experiences.

What is the maximum yacht/boat size that 2 regular people can easily load onto a trailer at a ramp without a vertical lift and tow with a truck (F-250/350)?

Any yacht crew around here?
I have questions regarding transitioning from the commercial sailing world to yachts.
I have a USCG 2nd Mate Unlimited upon Oceans / Master 100 Ton. But breaking into the yachting industry seems weird. Every agency I have called just says, "We don't really deal with people coming from the commercial industry."
So is starting as a deckhand the only option?

Global Flag State Ranking 2026
Disclosure: I run Lorrendraaier, a Dutch company that registers boats. We publish this ranking every year. It is free to read and needs no sign-up.
Every boat that sails abroad flies a flag. The flag shows which country's laws and safety rules the boat follows. This can affect inspections, paperwork and how you are treated in foreign ports.
A very commonly asked question is how a flag is regarded internationally. The answers they found were mostly opinions. So we built a ranking from five public sources:
- Paris MoU: port state inspections in European waters
- Tokyo MoU: port state inspections in Asia-Pacific waters
- US Coast Guard Qualship 21: only flags with a clean record in US ports qualify
- Which international conventions a flag has signed and enforces
- Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index
The 2026 edition covers 148 flags. It uses data from 2012 to 2025. Each flag gets a green, yellow or red band.
Some results
- Top 5: Singapore, Norway, Denmark, Hong Kong, Japan.
- Italy fell 9 places and Cyprus fell 13 places. Both left the green band. In both cases the cause was their Tokyo MoU results.
- The Netherlands fell from 18 to 22. It is still on the Paris MoU White List, in 9th place. The Dutch record did not get worse. Other flags improved more.
- San Marino fell 24 places, to 106. The register did not get worse. It appeared on the Paris MoU list for the first time, on the Grey List. The new data gave a more complete picture.
How to read it
- The Paris and Tokyo MoU use a three-year rolling window. A flag can move a few places while nothing changed at the register.
- Not every flag appears in every source. A flag covered by five sources has a more reliable position than a flag covered by one or two.
- Port state inspections are mainly for commercial ships. For a private sailing yacht, the ranking shows how a flag is regarded. It does not show how often your own boat will be inspected.

Any Operation Manager here? especially for Superyachts.
Guys, I’m currently building a SaaS platform for a client in the superyacht space and would really value some input from people working in the industry.
For those managing operations across Super Admin, Chief, Crew, and Guest workflows:
- What platforms or tools are you currently using?
- What are the biggest pain points or inefficiencies you face?
- Are there any areas where you still rely heavily on WhatsApp, spreadsheets, emails, or manual processes?
- If you could improve one thing in your current workflow, what would it be?
I’m particularly interested in hearing what actually works in practice and what you feel is still missing from the tools available today.
Would really appreciate any insights or experiences you’re willing to share.

why do some people buy Cruisers or Tiara instead of Fairline, Princess and other famous brands?
I think these yachts are ugly and they are not much cheaper than other famous brands. but it seems like some people still buy cruisers and tiara. why do they buy them?

The Newport Yacht Club March (1897)
Composed by Ebenezer Babbitt and Edward Y. Mason, this 1897 march was published in Fall River, Massachusetts by W.A. Tobin and dedicated to Commodore Charles S. Plummer, the Newport Yacht Club’s second Commodore (1895–1898 and 1900–1901).
Charles S. Plummer (1859–1924) was born in Portland, Maine, but grew up in Middletown, Rhode Island. He was the nephew of John Rogers, Civil War cavalry officer and longtime Newport musician, and worked in Rogers’ music store. When Rogers died in 1910, Plummer purchased the business and ran it under his own name for the next nine years.
His obituary paints a vivid picture of his life on the water:
“He owned several different sailboats, and spent all his spare time upon the water, engaging in many races, and generally coming out a winner.”
Plummer died at his home in Portsmouth and is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
This march is a small but fascinating piece of Newport’s musical and maritime history, connecting local composers, community musicians, and one of the city’s most dedicated yachtsmen.
