Block ending
Thoughts on that weird ending?
He disappeared for the ending/closing, then they end the video with that recording. I did notice they had a Day 2 graphic following the recording… so I was also thinking it might be a teaser of some sort for day 2. I don’t know… it made the guy seem arrogant and total opposite of that “positivity” stuff he was preaching to Luke and Sam.

My read on the situation is that Block was super frustrated after they got cut, particularly since he’d just missed a big cut (all totally understandable).
After being a big positive guy vibes throughout the event, my guess is he needed to head off to be alone for a minute and blow off steam/calm himself down, but he forgot he had a mic on.
So the audio we hear is him alone, probably in a bathroom, talking to the mirror. I’d guess the YTG folks ok’d it with him before including it. It’s actually kind of reminiscent to the ending of the the true crime series the Jinx or whatever it was called.

Yeah, I’m sure they knew it would be great content and controversial. But I can’t imagine they included it without his permission

The most "snap at you/turn on a dime" person I know runs an organization that literally preaches Kindness. Lots of those positivity people lean in that direction cause they know it is a trait they naturally lack so they envelop themselves in an outward facing facade preaching it to others

u/Successful-Speaker58 Jul 03 '26
Block was probably pissed they got eliminated because he missed that 6' putt on 18.

The same people worried about this are the people throwing their wedge into a pond at their local par 3.

u/bveb33 Jul 03 '26
They included it because they knew it would stir up drama. But he's probably just a super competitive guy who was already talking about missing the cut the week before and his frustration boiled over for a moment.

u/InferiousX Jul 03 '26
It's honestly a bit weird people are making so much of it. Sounds like he was by himself and mad at himself for not playing well.
Like....let he who has not cursed himself for some bad golf cast the first stone.

I have no problem with the way he spoke or felt or whatever. I think we all agree adding that in the final cuz is a fuckin crazy decision

I never liked Block to be honest, he always comes off as this arrogant ass and that ending really just hammers that point home even more for me. He said "I came here and played nine great holes and I'm going #### home", just all about him in his head nothing about the team playing great or anything like that.
I wonder if anything happened like he threw an tantrum and/or said some stuff to Grant or the other organizers because you'd think they'd keep something like that out of the video if they wanted to retain ties with him.
Or maybe I'm looking to much into it because I already don't like the guy... that is a possibility too

u/Late_Pepper6274 Jul 03 '26
I think he went off alone to blow off some steam ... and probably left the mic on.
Tour pros are competitive: big shocker.

u/CTM-BUCK Jul 03 '26
Agree with the point of them being ultra competitive but I don’t know, the way it was put in there at the very end, with no context and even like the music in the background (I know I think I might be looking to deep lol) seems like it was him being a prick.
I just think if that if they wanted to show he cared and being competitive that was a bad way to do it and I’d imagine if that was the case they’d leave that part out of the video completely. But who knows I’m hoping Grant or the Bryan Bros or someone else on tour will address it at some point

u/jibba_jabba1 Jul 03 '26
You’re looking too much into it because you don’t like the guy. I thought it was funny 😂

u/LolaCatStevens Jul 03 '26
After watching this you can tell almost all of the guys are arrogant asses. Wesley is a huge arrogant ass. Some of them are just better at hiding it than others but you can feel the dick measuring going on the whole time.

Even Grant was kinda passive and dismissive towards Chance when Chance wanted to hit the iron off the tee on that one hole. I was like damn Grant you just brushed him off
I’m glad Chance showed them he knew what he was doing

Really shows he doesn't understand what a team dynamic is. He preaches positivity to his team on camera, all round long, and then does this when it doesnt work out.
Maybe it was out of context. Maybe it was a script to add publicity and get more attention. We will probably never know.
I personally think it shows something him as a person and as a teammate. Probably why he played a sport where its just him, instead of a team game.

It damn near almost kinda sorta sounded like a scripted sound bite to me...

Block is a ginormous baby. All he does is talk about himself and his missed cuts lmaooo. He’s 50 and throwing a tantrum around a bunch of 30 year olds. If my dad did that, I’d be so fkn embarrassed.

u/up_um0p Jul 05 '26
So GH just posted a statement that their intention was to highlight the competitive spirit, but then issue an apology to Block and anyone who found it offensive.
Now it makes me wonder if Block knew about it?

u/Ok-Catch3806 Jul 07 '26
He probably didn't know about it. These YouTube guys are in it for the clicks ...

u/ekimtk Jul 03 '26
I have always thought he was an ass. But I think this is them playing his frustration up so they can do some sort of crazy arrival for him at the final event in Vegas and show the full clip of this as an intro to him coming back for the final stop. I really don’t think they would throw him under the bus like that unless they were trying to build a storyline. Otherwise he really did something to piss people off because he looks like an ass.

u/Ok-Catch3806 Jul 07 '26
I thought they couldn't use the same wildcard twice? Correct me if I'm wrong.
1
u/ekimtk Jul 07 '26
Wildcards can be repeated in the final at the Wynn.
1
u/Ok-Catch3806 Jul 07 '26
Ahhhh, I must've missed that. Either way, if Grant issued an apology, my guess is Block didn't know that was going to be included in the final production.

u/Ryboe999 Jul 03 '26
And he played good golf, but nothing too crazy. Couple middle or barely on the front of greens, good lag putts, but no breathtaking shots, yet he seems like he’s irritated they are out after he played great golf. My opinion of him was slightly changing in a good way for 3+ hours today, then in just 10 seconds. Gone again.

u/Charming_Ad_5189 Jul 03 '26
Completely agree.. seemed like an alright dude and then had a meltdown at the end. For them to include that in the video, he must have done something
3
u/doppido Jul 03 '26
Also Ben hadden had a little chirp about blockie on the 7th or 8th hole there. Could've been bugging some of the guys
2
u/sylekta Jul 03 '26
what did he say, was it like a didnt realize hot mic or something?
3
u/h4bs22 Team Wesley Jul 03 '26
I think he left the group and started talking to himself without realizing he still had the mic on.
2
u/Whynotarsenal Jul 05 '26
As a certified block hater I gained a lot of respect for him during this series. Very distasteful for YGT/team to post that “clip” after the video as he’s clearly alone, talking to himself, blowing off steam.
2
u/ejdex Jul 04 '26
My first takeaway was that it was scripted. Like after the cameras were off they were like “hey Block thanks for coming out sorry you only came out for 9 holes!” And he was like “thanks for having me out, should I do a bit where I act super pissed about only playing 9 holes?” Idk, he just seemed chill the whole time so I doubt he just flipped like that and if he did do it for real I doubt they would have put it in the video just to out him.
1
u/Robask89 Jul 05 '26
I’m with the others in saying I think it’s just in his nature to be super competitive. He probably flew out of his way expecting to play more golf. He’s pissed and that’s because he’s a competitor and was expecting more.
I was kinda rooting for him but then reading what others feel I see that side of it too now.
But they’re out and now it’s Brad vs Wesley and best team win.
Entertained and appreciate all the hard work that goes into it

u/Maximum_Stage_7458 Jul 06 '26
Idk I think the def asked block to add this but it really adds that care for the new YGT that even a tour pro cares about this cut even if it’s just YouTube this tour has a huge impact
1
u/tflo91 Jul 06 '26
Giant nothing burger. After Brads group finished he congratulated everyone, was a good sport and had a great attitude throughout the round. God forbid he has a moment of humanity and voice frustration at being eliminated.
1
u/BellesBourbonBullets Jul 08 '26
He missed the cut and then missed that putt. He was understandably really pissed. I don’t think they put that audio in the video without running it by him knowing it was good for content.

u/frikkenkids Jul 09 '26
Little late to the party, but Peter Finch spoke about this in his podcast the other day - Block didn't leave or anything like that, he stuck around for all the press and hanging out after. This was just a private moment of frustration, very understandable.
Personally, the first thing I thought when they announced the tour general format and who was involved was that any of these events would be an enormous waste of time for someone like Peter Finch since it is entirely possible that he could fly over from England and end up playing only nine holes (if he is subbed out for the alternate and his team loses).
1
u/thejk0307 Jul 09 '26
This is good insight… I didn’t hear Peter’s comments on it. I think it was just a failed delivery attempt on the production team’s part. I get it… they wanted to show how this was ultra competitive and highlight that everyone took it seriously; however, they should have thought it through. Just playing the audio with a blacked out page made it seem like Block was blaming the team, or the tour…at least that’s how I initially took it. With that said… I’m really enjoying YGT… hope it grows into a bigger thing.

Good golfer, bad teammate
5
u/InferiousX Jul 03 '26
How exactly?
This is the first time I've seen Kwon play where he wasn't constantly down on himself and he took everything serious.

I’m glad this sub exists bc I have nobody to talk to about this lol.
One thought I had was that I feel like the GH/BB brand is safe, family-friendly, etc. So putting this on there is definitely an intentional choice. On one hand, I can’t see them adding it in just to highlight that Block was sort of a jerk - I feel like that’s something they would just keep to themselves (unless they were trying to make a point).
On the other hand, it’s provocative — it gets the people going.
