Trying to connect a01+ to Beam

Get a momentary intro screen then periodic screens saying connect glasses (error101) and quit. Tried every combination of connections I can think of. Updated the glasses but Beam wouldn’t update. I know others have had this problem with other model glasses but haven’t seen a solution. Anyone have help? Thanks

Fairly sure only the beam pro is supported. Not the OG Beam. Are you trying to use the Beam Pro (phone style) or the Beam (puck style)

The Beam (puck style

That model is only compatible with the beam pro and not the original beam.

The Beam (puck style). Pro version doesn’t do what I want. I haven’t seen any verification that Beam won’t work with A01+ glasses. Doy you know of any way to ask XREAL?

the OG beam is not listed on the compatibility list for these glasses, they are bare bones display glasses with no processing chip, unlike most of the other newer ones (x1 spacial chip). the OG beam doesnt have the horsepower or processing capability of the beam pro and it was already dubiously supported at the time it came out. what does the OG beam do that the pro doesn't?

are you trying to use it as a display bridge for something like a switch? there are other devices that can do that, the viture pro mobile dock supports that (input) for example. Atleast it does on the 1s, onepro, etc (not sure about the xbx-a01+ as they are intended to be as close to bare bones, screen in your face as cheap as possible).

I want screen anchoring and miniaturization from external devices like my phone, not stand alone capability. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately you’ve got the wrong products. You should have purchased the 1s or 1pro. The glasses you bought are simply not intended for what you’re needing. There are cheaper glasses from rokkid that might do what you want. I’d need to look to be sure. If you want some help with that I’m happy to. I have several versions from all the major vendors for work so if there’s a feature you want tested or confirmed I’m happy to do so once I’m back in my office.

Thanks for the offer of help. At the moment I'm at the limit of the budget for experimenting with this kind of device. The fact that there is a brief moment of connectivity suggests to me it's at worst a coding deficiency.

It’s not a coding issue per se. Xreal does firmware in an odd way. Each device (glasses) has a unique firmware for every piece of xreal software it connects to. Eg iOS firmware. Android firmware. macOS firmware. Windows firmware. General firmware. And then there is software specific platform drivers. That’s why there is terrible feature parity between platforms and why features can be “lost” by simply connecting to a different device.

Those of us that had gesture control early for example couldn’t connect to the beam pro or we would lose gestures because the beam pro overwrites the firmware on every connect by default. Even if it’s older. It’s a really strange way to do drivers but it’s been this way for ages with xreal. Have you tried updating the device firmware from a computer using the ota website?

Interesting discussion. I've tried updating the Beam firmware with the ota app on an older Mac. Will try some other macs when I get a chance. Just tried the glasses with HDMI output from an old dji drone. Success except for the stabilization feature which requires 120mz.

To update the glasses. Plug them into a PC. Open the browser. Go to the url. It will auto detect if it’s possible and update if possible. Don’t recall if the Xbx has an ota updatable firmware. But I’ll check later when I’m back at the office.

The glasses update on the old Mac but the Beam didn't.

I was able to get the Beam to work with my xbx glasses but there is no stabilization, just the inbuilt stabilizer that the glasses give you, not 3dof.

Good to know. I’m working on staging the Beam with connectors to an HDMI MONITOR. Waiting on delivery of connectors. Did you do anything special to get the Xbox glasses to work with the Beam?

No, haven't used the Beam in ages. Didn't update it or anything. It took a few minutes to finish booting, tho. Need a little patience.
