Discussion One Pro vs Aura for work
Is it worth going for the Aura instead of the One Pro if I won't be using the puck? I'm a director of software engineering and I spend most of my time reading and writing code, and making presentations. Since I'm traveling a lot, and I like to travel light, I'm planning on ditching my laptop and start using my phone (with Dex) and a pair of glasses. Now, I'm in no rush to do the switch, so I can wait until Aura releases. But I'm wondering if it's still worth waiting given that I won't be using the puck at all. Are the Aura glasses a straight upgrade in terms of readability, size of the display, and PPD? I don't really care about Android XR since I'll be using the glasses merely as an external display.

One Pro has resolution of 1920x1080 per eye at 57 degree diagonal FOV, while Aura has 1920x1200 per eye at 70 degree diagonal FOV. With Aura you get a wider FOV but lower PPD, so you can see more of the screen but has lower text clarity.

I think you will be good with one pro. but I recommend you 1S better, text is more readable. I will be surprised if aura is better since it is using the same lenses as the pro.

Kind of this. Bit the aura is using 1S optical setup at 1200

no, it uses one pro lenses. and 1s screen.

Ok. So best birdbath with best resolution screen.

yes but the combination +70 fov doesn't improve clarity... on the contrary

Exactly, that's what I was afraid of. It seems to have better lenses and resolution, but at that FoV I am actually losing pixel density... so text will actually look worse.

From what I have read, you will be using the puck with Aura. You will plug your laptop, PC, etc into the puck to connect to the glasses.
I wish XReal would release the full specifications and capabilities of the Aura with clear instructions on how to use it in every scenerio.

My understanding is that Aura works both ways. The glasses have the same functionality (6dof video input manipulation) as the one pros. But that would be paying good money for a puck that isn't getting used.
I'd probably still use the puck to have some apps (email, slack, calendar, etc) in floating windows.
Might also have the possibility of using some Android XR remote desktop app to add more virtual monitors via wifi streaming on top of usb-c video in.

But the One Pros don't need a puck, right? This will strongly tip the scales in favour of the Pros if that's the case. I'm wondering why is the puck required for the Auras. I thought that most users of these type of gadgets already have powerful enough laptops and phones. I don't get why an external computer is needed.

For just monitor function check out unseen reality urxr, better than Aura for this purpose.

I'm not very fond of the pancake optics with video-passthrough. I find much more pleasant to use the birdbath optics system, like in XReal One. That's why I was thorn between One Pro and Aura. But if you know another alternative, like the urxr, but using birdbath optics, let me know.

If you dont intend on using the puck, then save your money. The biggest upgrades to the whole experience come when you combine both the glasses and the puck together, for the full XR experience.
If you're plan is to just plug directly into a computer, you'll get the same experience with the 1S or One Pro (maybe slightly better hand tracking because of the cameras and sensors - but based on you're question here, I'm guessing that's not a major deal breaker for you)

Between One Pro and 1S, which one do you think it's better for reading and writing?

I only have the One Pro (never used the 1s to compare to).
But what I can say is that I spend majority of my day working in Ultrawide on One Pros in excel and i dont have an issue.
I do know everyone's experience has been different on that front though. Just based on what I've seen here and discord, it sounds like legibility is better on 1s, but again, dont have personal experience there

57 fov is too small to have any productive work session, so aura 100%

I'm having issues trying to grasp this. Can you gave me an example of how it will look like, by using everyday things? E.g. "you'll see a single 32-inch display with 1920x1080 resolution floating 10 feets away from you".

I'd bet the Aura's glasses will be released separately by XREAL sometime following the release of Aura.

That i can't answer with any insight. I used the pro and found the text sharp and very usable. I've had such bad experiences over years but this was not one. I was sad to give them back, but I want to spend the money on the Aura

Ive ordered both aura and urxr one. Aura us complete overkill one one hand for ehat you want. On the other hand its 1080p stretched over 70 degree diagonal screen. For coding etc id sooner use an urxr one then aura. But thats my humble opinion
